winter golf
The weather fifties in January with a light breeze, so everyone is out playing golf.. The course like most recovering from a dry Summer
Mature course with good layout. Cart paths need repair
Van Cortland Park is a very well used course due to its proximity to Manhattan and the Bronx.
Once the Westchester County courses close for the winter it gets busier.
One of the two folks in my three some yesterday had come from Manhattan.
Overall its a good public course; but I wonder why the management do not invest the revenue generated towards better up-keep1?
Worthy
Only issue was there is no. Concession stands. And the tee boxes were frozen,.making it verf difficult to put a tee In the ground.
Otherwise the course is in very good condition!
Surprisingly well kept, not busy, but very challenging greens
I booked here on a whim. Pace of play was great, as we never had to wait on a hole after hole #1, got through 18 holes in 3:45 with myself and 1 other random I was paired with - both of us mid/high handicappers. Course was mostly very well kept, greens were in good condition - but they are VERY challenging greens with varying speeds, slopes, and some pin locations basically on an angle, Didn't score particularly well as I putt a LOT trying to figure out these greens.
Also - DON'T walk this course, the layout is a bit rough and there are at least 3x you'll have to walk 10-15 mins just to get to the next hole.
True running greens
I have played vancortlandt golf course many times, but this was the most enjoyable round I have ever played. The greens are truly In amazing shape and I can’t remember when the greens ran this fast and true.
Decent golf course
They need an active course marshall to manage the flow around the golf course.
