After half the groups had teed off and there was still 4 or 5 in front of us. And we were on time. Photo submitted by null on 09/25/2014
Slow pace of play.
Slow pace of play... course is a little off it’s very high standards but still the best in nyc
Be Fair to Your Guests
Had a 7:10am tee time today. We arrived early at 6:55am and nobody from the staff was there. Somebody who we later found out did work there shouted from his parked car “might be a delay!” We walked to the first tee to see if anyone might be down there and a course attendant drove up to us in a maintenance cart and reprimanded us telling us to go to the clubhouse. We explained that it was all locked up and nobody was there. We asked if he knew anything and he said “they should be there sometime”. Finally at 7:45am, 35 minutes after we were supposed to tee off someone arrived to unlock and set up. Nonchalant, no apology, just one snide comment to the tune of “you really want to play in this weather, huh?” It was overcast not even raining. Slowly checked us and the other group who had been there even longer in and sent us out. Full charge, not even a hint of “sorry” from anyone on staff. Course itself was fine but the lack of empathy for arriving over an hour after they should have been there was infuriating and terrible customer service.
Old School Charm
Being the oldest public course in the USA was a drawing point. You could tell with the slight hills and challenging greens that this is a course that’s been around a while. Especially the set up of bunker locations. A lot of fun including the daunting 620yard 2nd!
Tee boxes were worn as you’d expect in October on a heavily trafficked course but the fairways and greens were in phenomenal shape! Long way to walk but definitely felt like a throwback to a simpler time. Will definitely be back!
COURSE Was Closed -- GolfNow DID NOT REIMBURSE
There was a light hurricane the night before, so the course was closed. I was told I'd be reimbursed, but GolfNow has awful support, and they have made no effort to reimburse me, despite me having called the course and having submitted support tickets.
I feel bad leaving this review for the course, but this must be rectified.
Skimping on necessary maintenance and overbooking golfers. Fee to park.
I played 18 on Saturday afternoon with 2 friends and my wife rode along. First of all, parking is not free for golfers so that was a weird inconvenience. Secondly, we had to pay an entire greens fee for my wife to ride in my cart and watch. I understand this is not unheard of, but considering we were a group of 3 golfers and we had 2 carts, there was room for her and I got the feeling they were just searching for more fees to throw on. The course has NO range and NO putting green to warm up on. There are no push cart options so it’s either cart or walk. With large distances between many of the holes and the last 4 holes being nicknamed “the hills” I would recommend getting a cart. The portable toilets on the course had poop in the urinal and the service log on the inside indicated it had not been serviced for 6 months so no telling when it was last cleaned. The beers and hotdogs at the concession booth at hole 8 were relatively cheap so that was a nice surprise. Now to the important stuff: the tee boxes were either decent at best or total mud pits. We actually opted to hit from the Jr tees on several holes due to the quality of some boxes. The greens were pretty clear of issues and had fun challenging slopes and breaks, however we found that they broke much less than we all anticipated Time and time again. Lastly, the PACE was horrendous. We had a 2pm tee time and did not even drive hole 15 due to the sunset. The front 9 took about 3 hrs. I believe this is due to overbooking. The group 2 in front of us had a group of 5 teeing off and even they were backed up in front of them. Overall I’d give the conditions a 5/10 and the mgmt of the course a 2/10.
Long walk without a driving cart!
A pretty nice course but their course have to walk a lot.
I usually like to walk for golfing.
I felt they were so long to go to next hole.
I actually have done great excise.
Their staff were not friendly at all .
Oldest and Best Kept Secret in da Bronx
Conditions were top notch! Very impressed by this local course and will be back. Great mix of holes that demand different types of shots .. short and long par 4s .. long par 3s .. very long par 5s. I'm a walker and the only downside is how the course is broken up into pieces that require significant walks between each section.
Steve in the pro shop was very nice and attentive.
