Well managed
Not sure if it was simply the new Protocols but the way the course was managed was great_the Staff were kind but professional _In the past pace-of-play has been a real problem_Hope these new standards can be maintained_TYVM JAMES KLIER
Great Character
Early tee time got us through the round in less than 4-hrs. Greens were in great shape but a little on the slow side, fairways were in good shape but many of the tee boxes were pretty chewed up, especially the 1st tee. The course is a great layout being broken up into some 5-sections, it has lots of character. Unfortunately with COVID issues/restrictions, the amenities were limited.
Fun course, always shoot under there.
Fun short course. Very scorable course. Tee boxes are probabaly the worst in the city, fair ways aren't too much better. Greens are decent, but slow. I've played there when the greens are in great shape, and when they're good, the course has potential of being one of the best city courses.
Last 4 holes
It was a perfect day. weather was great and we finished in under 4 hrs. We like the last 4 holes the best.
Great condition
While a lot of courses around NYC are not in very good shape at the moment this one is! The greens are in very good shape so is the course!
Had fun: Twilight
On a whim, decided to play at 5:40pm. I knew I'd only get 9 holes in and for the price, I chose to play 9 at VC rather than at Mosholu. I just started to gey back into the game and did start a bit slow, but had no one behind me. I walked and I really enjoyed my time. The Tee's are a bit rough, but I didn't mind. The greens I felt were fine and now slow. Overall, the course looked maintained albeit Covid and Hurricane. I'd go back and play again.
Enjoyed the round while it lasted
Unfortunately we got hit with a thunder and lighting stone on the 11th hole and the course get flooded out so we could play 11. It was fun while it lasted
Very disappointing
Cow pasture. That’s all I could say. Greens were so slow because They have not been cut and the tee boxes are just a joke. Very disappointing and not worth the money
Good Old Vanny!
Hadn't played Van Cortland, Vanny, in 40 years. Where I learned how to play. So I played for three days in a row. Ok, not much grass on Tee Boxes, fairways are ok, and the greens are slow. But, I loved it! I play 2-4 times a week, and on better conditions. But, this is Vanny, the Oldest Public Golf Course in America. Not long, except for 2 long par fives (600,550), and have to be straight or start playing with some trees. Staff and Pro were great during this time of Covid.
Nice course
The overall conditions have never been better. The care and ability that this course must have is first class. The greens snd fairways as well as t boxes are all in great shape for a city course is very suprising
