After half the groups had teed off and there was still 4 or 5 in front of us. And we were on time. Photo submitted by null on 09/25/2014
great place to play
The first public golf course is a joy to play. We were finished in 4.5 hours. Lovely setting right in the bronx.
Love this course.
Great Course
Great condition considering the amount of people that it plays. Great club house and water is stationed at the shack and at the turn to the last 4 holes. Place of play can get a little slow but that’s the cost of having a golf course near the city. As a female golfer, my only complaint is to have another bathroom facility on the course for easy access.
nice day
Van Cortland is a really fun course to play. It's in amazingingly good shape for the amount of play it gets. This round was fast however the course can sometimes play really slow. The staff is very nice and accommodating.
6.5 hour round
Come on. I know it’s a Sunday afternoon at 1pm but that’s absurd. All rangers did was drive around and watch people play. We had a foursome of college kids in front of us who had never played before and spent 15 min on each green.
My round
No cart services on course. No rangers out on course to help with oace of play
Great course
Outstanding g day today. Tees off at 4 did 18 no rush.
Value
This is a decent course for the money. It's not a long course but can be unforgiving at times. Definitely worth the time and money.
Old Classic
Love this classic layout and it's hard to believe you're playing golf in the Bronx! Such lush greenery and beauty. Course was a in great shape, but the greens were a bit slow and furry. Otherwise no complaints. Beautiful day and always enjoy playing "Vanny".
Ok course, accessible by subway
Really need ranger to keep pushing the pace of play because pace of play was really poor
STAY AWAY!!!!
This was the absolute worst round of my life. Started off horrible. The first tee box was backed up over 30 mins... I don’t even want to re call this horrible day. Needless to say it was a 6 hr and 13 min round!!!! 72.00... you have got to be kidding me! The rangers did nothing about it either. Just a bunch of dopes! Place is a joke!
Playing nice in early season
I played Van Cortlandt on Saturday and the course is in about as good of condition as I’ve played it. Greens were rolling true and fairways were nice. A few areas still recovering from winter. The biggest problem is always pace of play because there is no one who maintains it. While the round was only about 4.75 hours, many people were playing the same holes multiple times due to the wait time. This obviously made the wait even longer so while some people played the same same 4 holes three times and didn’t have to wait, everyone else was backed up and the round dragged on.
Oldest public course in USA
My local course in great shape considering the bad winter that never ended ,I know a lot of the guys there so it’s a fun round ,greens were quick despite rain in the early hours
Where’s the ranger?
Very slow play. Group ahead of us were very slow. There was at least a two hole gap developed between them and the group in front of them by their slow play. No ranger came along to get them to speed things up.
Mosquitoes (gnats?) were all over, especially the last three holes. (This was the Joba Chamberlain experience I never wanted to have). Hopefully they will spray there to get rid of them.
