After half the groups had teed off and there was still 4 or 5 in front of us. And we were on time. Photo submitted by null on 09/25/2014
Golfer Reviews
Bathroom by the snack shop
My golf buddies and I love Vanny because of the scenery and the condition of the course in general but the only thing we don’t like is their portal potty by the snack shop before hole 9(?). Doesn’t NYC have enough money? Nothing fancy just running water one is all we ask.
Greens Need Work
Always love a round at Vanny. The course was in great shape, except for the greens. I think they punched a couple weeks ago and didn’t sand them enough. That might be incorrect, but the greens need work regardless. Most putts were bumpy. Teeing off at 6:30 on a Sunday and finishing in 4 hours was great, but I’m certain the later tee times were subjected to a longer round. Gentleman in the clubhouse couldn’t have been nicer and the lady running the snack stand on the course was friendly. Definitely with a visit if you’ve not played it.
Good day at Vanny.
Fast pace today. Course in good condition. Greens were aerated so a little tough on the putting. Good day.
Vanny
Always a pleasure playing Van Cortlandt. Course is in good shape.
NYC Muni Expectations Met
It’s a city muni in January, 36° out and only people on the course was the man I was paired with, the 3 in the group in front of me and the 3 behind me. Course conditions are so so, pace was as expected with how little people there was and staff was easy going. Just moved here from LA, by no means is it on par with even the worst kept LA muni but it’s what I expect trying to golf in the golfers haven that is NYC. Not looking forward to peak season here but whatever.
Love Vanny but something needs to be done with pace of play
Have always enjoyed playing VC but not some much as of late. The last three rounds, pace of play has been consistently awful. So Much that we didn't even get to play the last four holes. No matter how we tried to vary the booking times, the rounds were still running into 4 and half hours to only play 14. Ever since they stopped offering carts as part of the greens fee, it's been a nightmare of slow walkers who don't want to pay extra for the carts. And since the course is somewhat hilly, on the last four holes, that slows walkers down even more. And when the course is wet, and is cart path only, even slower play. Drainage needs serious improvement. The tee times need to be staggered more as well. My suggestion is either employ more rangers, or put a moratorium on walking when it's a full tee time card. No complaints about staff, they're always great. But if things don't get improved, I'm seriously considering not playing this course next season, sad to say.
Great course
Great municipal course. Not the longest, but enough challenges with the layout. There is a little bit of everything. The place is always in good condition. I play during the week, pace of play is fast for the most part. The snack stand is positioned so that you walk by three times during the round.
