After half the groups had teed off and there was still 4 or 5 in front of us. And we were on time. Photo submitted by null on 09/25/2014
Lacking
Van Cortlandt has the potential to be the best course in NYC but continues to disappoint. A little maintenance on the tee boxes and greens would go a long way. Bunkers were actually in good shape, but everything else was a struggle.
The Vanny
The Vanny is always a solid round for the price. The staff is always friendly and the guy in the pro shop was a trip. Even the starter and I were discussing my irons. Some tee boxes are a little rough, and they've had some water damage. But always a good day especially when you pass the half way house twice.
A hidden gem
Right in the middle of New York City is a championship golf gourse. Challenging and fun. Staff was great.
Conditions
I was very disappointed with the conditions of course. The grass was too high and we had a hard time finding balls near fairways. Most tees were best up.. the cart paths were horrendous and need work. In comparison to nearby courses I would unfortunately rate it below par. It’s sad because it’s such a beautiful course but for the price I would rather go elsewhere.
Quality golf experience at a reasonable price
Always enjoy a round of golf at Van Cortland and teaming the experience with arrangements serviced through Golf Now only adds to the pleasure.
The course is in particularly good shape given the rain we have been having.

New favorite spot
Absolutely loved everything about this course. Can’t wait to return.
hot day so few golfers
The day was hot 90+ degrees so not many golfers out on the course during the afternoon heat. The course is a tough walk so I took a cart, shot mid 80's
Vanny still one of my favs
Course was in good shape considering it is August. Tee boxes were also in decent shape. Lazy people sont fix their ball marks on the greens. 2nd group out on a Saturday under 4 hours.
Course is in great shape
Haven't been there in a few years. It's a bit long for seniors but manageable. It's in magnificent shape. Greens a bit slow but true. Fairways excellent. Stay out of the rough to be effective. Good choice for New York
Good course, could do with a few amenities
It is a good course. Hole 2 and 12 are par 5s to challenge the average golfer, some of the par 3s are also tough. The back nine is very interesting, especially the last 4. The kitchen and the snack shop open late, if you have an early tee time, you won't get anything. The restroom in the course is terrible. There is no food cart going around. Bunkers are hard, some tee boxes need upkeep.
