Van Cortlandt Park Golf Course

Everything about the day at Vanny was Slow, sometimes painfully slow, from checking in at the pro shop to playing! I'm guessing they get a lot of first-time players, because the two groups in from of us checking in also had someone in their party renting clubs. The pace of play was 23 minutes a hole and there wasn't a ranger in site! So, it would have been a 7 hour round of golf. to play 18 but we bailed after 15 and a little over 6 hours. This pace of play takes the fun out of the game. Not a course you want to walk because the walk between holes can be up to 1/4 mile. The course itself is nice and was in good shape, not a very challenging course but I give it a solid 6. I'm probably not going to come back, the pace of play and I get the feeling it is like this on the weekends is just unacceptable.

What an honor to play the oldest public course in America. The place Babe Ruth and countless other celebrities and sports figures played. The only knock on the course is the tee boxes need work. Outside of that awesome. By the way there is a practice putting green behind the first tee box. Great way to utilize space.

Back in 2022 I wrote a 1 star on Vanny but they have really stepped up their game in the last 18 months. Conditions are good for a high trafficked course and pace is improving but still needs work.

Obviously a municipal course has a lower standard, but this one was quite good for a municipal. The fairways can be quite narrow, which means a lot more lost balls. The greens were well groomed. The off-fairway roughs were a little more shaggy

Great to have a course accessible by public transit. Staff was friendly, course was well-maintained, and the pace of play was fine on a weekday. I wish it was a little cheaper, especially as a public course and one of the only options for NYC students and young people. And the layout of the course has multiple long walks between holes, so it is not impossible but strenuous to walk the course.

Be careful when you play as this course is the only 6.5 hour round I have ever been a part of. Conditions can be spotty like all NYC public’s.

The finishing holes are very good and have some solid views.

Greens were ok, but t boxes were in poor condition.

It was extremely long round over 5 hours. Usually under 4 hours. The price is ridiculous came out to $84 per guy.

Nobody out there getting the course moving. I like this course very much but no way I can handle another 5+hour round.

I am a traveler to NJ. I chose this course in the end because of the Tee time 06:21AM. Although I played better than my average (1 bird, 6 par and with two holes explosive), I would not recommend this course. Length is short and condition is not good, ground hard and green not flat enough.
