if you haven't been here don't come
I made the mistake of inviting some friends from Staten Island to play here on a Friday morning. I was unaware that an outing was scheduled for 1:00Pm the same day , thus we were informed that they were double teeing. This led to us playing this Hidden Jem in 3.5 hrs and having a nice lunch before noon. .Too add everyone that works there has a smile that I think is fKe but can't tell because they actnso nice. Whatever stay away!!
still the home of the 5 1/2 hour round
I went on a Tuesday and the pace of play was very slow on the front but opened up a bit on the back. I've been back since on a Monday and it was much better. My GolfNow reservation was somehow moved back 15 minutes and we still went off 30 minutes after that. Course is in great shape and I think a lot of fun to play. I also wish they had a pull cart to rent as its a great walking course.
Bad end of our vacation
our tee-time was 8.44 a.am. We started at 9.44.
the front nine takes 3 1/2 hours. There was nobody present to change this slow playing. We had to brake after 12 holes, bacause our flight back to Germany was waiting for us.
There were also no Fittingrooms.
Marshalls could keep the players on the clock at various points throughout the course to ensure better paced play
I am very much looking forward to my next round at Dyker Beach...the course was in great playing condition but the pace of play was slower then it needed to be. A couple of marshalls arround the course to ensure players are keeping up with the pace of play is recommended. I
Course was in great shape
It is always nice when playing a course where it is in great shape, fairways & greens were impressive, highly recommend to friends.
Will happily return!
Really enjoyed my round at Dyker -- place was in great shape. Excluding a few tee boxes on the back 9 -- views are wonderful, I went out early so I got a head of the older players but wouldn't mind spending more time here. The title says it all … i'll go back.
pace
The course was in pretty good shape after the harsh winter we had. Still see some evidence of airation but that will go away. Great pace of play. I will chalk that up to the 6:15 tee time we had.
fun and challenge
This course has great feature.
I been played so many time
Every time challenge.fun.
My favorite course in NY Metro Area
The course is really well maintained, and has several challenging holes. Really good for a NY muni course, my favorite one in the ny metro area.
Early Spring Golf
Early spring and it's great to be back on the course. Even though the course is still recovering from a long difficult winter,, playing at this time of the year can be fun. The trees are not yet in full bloom so the course appears wider and more forgiving. The fairways had just been aerated, so no roll on fairway. This requires a different approach and strategy That can make it feel very much like a different course.
Most of the Greens were aerated or provisional yet we paid full price
The course had several provisional greens and atleast a dozen aerated greens. I received no pre-notification of the conditions and we paid FULL PRICE.
...FAIL
Very slow play
It took 3hr and 15min to play 9 holes. We paid for 18 holes and only got to play 9 . We had scheduled a 12:12 tee time and got to the course at 11:45. Our group stood on the 1st tee for at least 45 min. before we could too off. The course really could use a starter and course marshall to speed up play and keep things moving. There was at least a 15 to 20 min wait on each of the first 6 holes. After the 6th wait time was only about 10 min. . I would not play this course again.
Good course for practice
This course is wide, flat and well maintained so it is good for practice. But it was crowded in weekend.
Decent Course / Easy Access by subway / 5+ hour rounds
Played a couple of rounds on weekends.
Pros:
* Easy to get to by train
* Good greens -very fast (and less break than you read)
* Moderately Challenging (no water in play, but some long holes and greens guarded by bunkers that are decently maintained)
Cons:
* 5+ hour rounds (atleast on Weekends)
* Dry fairways and greens (means tough to control the distance even from fairway and certainly from around the greens)
* No driving range
* No walking pull carts for rent
Overall, it is kept in better condition than other public courses in NYC (which have the same 5 hour round problem). So overall, i would recommend Dyker.
Beware : the greens are faasst! I took 8-10 holes to get used to it.
If someone from Dyker is reading, please get a ranger and enforce pace of play!
Jewel of Brooklyn.
Plan on 4-5hr time on weekday and 5-6hr playtime on weekend. Most of the par 3s (holes 4, 8, 17) + hole 3 are bottle necks. But that's because its the little jewel of Brooklyn. The course is well maintained. Almost a year since Hurricane Sandy hit, and I don't see any evidence of damage. The fairways are quite wide and open for most holes, making the course quite forgiving. The sand traps are fairly well maintained... some are great, only a few a little bare. The only improvement i would ask for is to install a safety net on hole 9. You are shooting at a straight par5 from an elevated tee box. On the left side is the street and sidewalk only blocked by a 8-9foot fence. Being a lefty, I can't even begin to tell you how many balls I've sliced out there.

Great value for great course
Compare to "other" golf course in the area, this golf course is in much better shape and much better value and the staffs are very friendly
Historic but painful pace
Pleasant setting and design - days of bodies (vehicular or human) in the bunkers and fairways are gone. Decently maintained with clueless grounds crew - they roll greens as you try to putt! Pace of play is ugly. One of first groups off in the morning and it was still a 4.5 hr round. For those coming later, I shudder to think... Historic track I wanted to play - done and no desire to repeat.because of pace.
Decent value close to Manhattan
Played over the weekend so it was packed and it took just over 5 hours. Course needs some work; one or two of the greens were 'beaches' with very little grass growing on them. That said, this is one of the few subway-accessible courses from Manhattan and that bumps up the rating for me. The price also works for me considering the overall costs of getting out to a NJ or LI golf course from the City.
it is what it is
Front nine greens were pretty beat up. Back nine much better. Course gets a ton of play and its noticeable throughout the course. For the golfnow price cant really go wrong.
Not What It Used To Be
Dyker used to be a real nice course and a joy to play. The conditions werent good, The greens were half dead and the rough and fairways need to be cut and needs other attention. The tee boxes were all chopped up and dirt piled divots or dead. The pace of play was horrible! There was a very slow foursome in front of us through the round and we never saw a ranger to help speed up play. even after a complaint. The round took 5 and half hours Was very dissapointed.
