Not worth the price
First time playing. I love the nyc muni vibe with the older brooklyn guys who work there cracking jokes and quips, but today it just seemed like everybody was in a bad mood, or were just tired of dealing with the golfers. The course ain’t cheap to play, but is now sitting in with the price most courses charge in the city. The carts were in by far the worst condition of any course in the city. One man complained about his steering wheel not working, and instead of helping the staff just told him he was wrong, and then made fun of him to me when he walked away. We got to our cart and noticed immediately it had no brakes, which we had to deal with the entire round. When we returned the cart, we flagged this to the staff member and another golfer who was supposed to use our cart, and the staff member just laughed and said “that’s how it goes sometimes”. We walked away when the golfer was trying to convince her this was an actual problem. Even though we knew the brakes were broken after using it for 5 hours, she was trying to convince the new patron that they should just take the cart.
Overall the golf course is satisfactory but nothing super interesting and it’s definitely not in the best condition. You can’t help but compare this to the other muni’s at this price point, and Forest Park, Marine Park, to name a couple are much better, in my opinion.
It’s a Sunday afternoon in nyc so pace of play issues are to be expected.
Positives were they had “cart girl” with cocktails and good food options, and the inside facility was comfortable with a lot of space.
Hope this place can help improve itself instead of blaming the patrons for complaining about baseline issues.
Too many tee times
Too many players in the course, each hole has about three waiting groups, so I just played 8 holes that took me around 4 hours.
Bad management
Pace of play is usually good if you get out before 8am but the last time out they sent out a large private group to do a shot gun start while people were already out playing on the course. It caused a massive back up and the round took 6+ hours. Starter was not friendly at all and made me drive in a cart with a stranger. How are you going to charge $79 and pull that? Bad management decision overall.
Sunday mid-day round
I very much enjoyed playing Dyker beach once I finally got onto the course. I had a noon tee time on a Sunday and expected the course to be busy but was taken aback at how unprepared the course was for a nice sunday afternoon. After waiting 15 minutes for a cart I then had to wait another 15 minutes to even tee off. My round finally started but again I was waiting at every shot because of slow play in front of me. The front 9 ended up taking 3.5 hours! I would recommend the course but not on a busy sunday
Rainy disposition
Course has improved but decision NOT to offer rain checks while rain is falling but no prior notice it would not feels extremely deceptive. Staff left with no answer only to say that they were told no rain checks. After charging higher prices for holiday weekend and not offer rain checks was a bit disappointing along with carts in need of immediate replacement.
Expensive for slow pace of play
6 hour+ round, very slow, rangers didn't do much. Pretty expensive relative to the other city courses, although greens were in good shape. Tight course, with fairways coming back at one another and tee boxes very close to the prior green. Got hit into a few times
Very Slow Pace of Play
Took an hour to get through the first two holes. Course double books tee times. Would not recommend playing on a weekend, but otherwise an okay course.
Not worth it
Paid for a art didn't get one. Teed off an hour and twenty minutes after tee time. Stood behind 6 four somes before tee off. If I had waited an hour I would have gotten a car . Paid for 18 could only play 9.
Top Public Option With In 5 Boroughs
Golf is tough in nyc, Dyker presents an option that allows for you to play solid golf under a 40 min car ride from Manhattan and if you play before 9am, you aren’t looking at a 5.5+ hour round. Don’t expect pristine conditions but it’s a solid test of golf on very “golfable” and fun track.
Very enjoyable
I've played Dyker Beach some 30-40 times, it's a nice layout, nice mix of holes some easy some very challenging so it's suitable for a wide variety of golfers. For mid March, course was in very good shape, greens were excellent, kudos to the superintendent. Pace of play was very good, under 4 1/2 hours. The only complaint is the motorized carts, they are clearly way past their prime with new ones supposedly coming in a few months. The bunkers have new sand, cart paths were replaced, will definitely play again.
Dyker
Greens were unusual fast…lots of green side bunkers but not one rake insight.
Poor All Around
Course was in terrible shape, huge bodies of water all over the course. Should have not let anyone play in these conditions. Staff was moderately ok but several were rude for no reason. No range or warm up areas.
New Management Needed
This used to be my home course before i moved to chicago in August 2018. Dyker at that point in time in 2018 was in the best conditions I have ever seen it. Coivd Hits and Like everything Dyker Turned to for the worst. I played it Last Year in July 2023 and It was sad to see what happened to Dyker. The Biggest Issue with Dyker is the Management. The clowns working the clubhouse when i lived in Brooklyn in 2018. They treat Dyker as Their own personal Country Club. Making the Paying Guest an afterthought. American Golf ruined most of the city courses. It's nice to See La Tourette and South Shore now under New Management. When will dyker benefit from new blood running that place.
