Heatherwood Golf Club
About
Heatherwood Golf Club is the sister course to the Pine Hills Country Club, which is a 30-minute drive away in Manorville. It is a short golf course at a little over 4,000 yards but the layout offers excellent short game practice. It is also a good test of your iron play. There are no par 5s but the golf course has an interesting variety of reachable par 4s and challenging par 3s. Mature trees are abundant throughout the course, specifically concentrated along the fairways. One of the most unique holes is the 11th, which features an optical illusion that causes players to line up in a way that makes their balls go to the right. The trick is to adjust your stance slightly left but even if you are still off the green is mercifully large and forgiving.

Good but slow
As always, Heatherwood provides a cheap and fun alternative to some of the more massive courses on the island but the problem is the overload of traffic that you find there day in and day out. I think it is a management and philosophy problem to be honest because they stack these tee times together and you have 5 twosomes teeing off 5 minutes after each other and it just makes no sense. Either do a better job of pairing up twosomes when it is busy or spread out the tee times. It took my brother and I 2 and half hours to play 12 holes yesterday. Thats insane. We ended up circling back to the front nine when the pace became too much to bare.
Whatever, its a nice course and its cheap but if this becomes what they're known for they can expect to see people start to go elsewhere.
Great course for a quick, enjoyable round.
A well maintained, well laid out, short executive type course. Enjoyable, affordable, and perfect for a quick round. Highly recommend.
Staff Rush
I have played this course many times which might be the only saving grace for this review. I love the course it is beautiful, well kept & plays fast. Unfortunately on my last round I played here I had a 0618 tee time & I was in the parking lot at 0550 with a cup of coffee ready to go. The staff didn't show up at the golf course until 0630 and there were earlier tee times than mine that needed to get out on the tee. By the time we got on the tee it was around 0640, 22 minutes later than our scheduled time. With that the staff then tried to push the other tee times close together in an attempt to catch up from their own mess they had created. By the time my group got to the 9th hole the staff had jammed the course with other groups causing a back up. Then the ranger who is a gentleman told my group we had to pick up the pace. This infuriated my group but we just have the typical no problem gesture & continued to play. The ranger never came back but the fact that they had the nerve to do that was aggravating, leading to the rest of my groups round to be filled with annoyance rather than pleasure. Like I said this course is great & I've played here a lot & will continue to play here. The only thing is that it would be nice if the staff could control their weekend bender drinking enough to allow its customers to enjoy an on time tee off with no further aggravation.
Well maintained course
Very nice course. Courteous staff from check in to starter. Round went at a nice comfortable pace with no rushing of shots. Went as a single player and exchanged phone numbers with my partner to meet up again for many more rounds.
Beautiful coarse
I recommend this coarse. It's well maintained great for intermediate golfers. It's challenging and fun. No par 5's. Water and bunker challenges as well as hills and valleys. Very peaceful and very reasonable.
Great course
Enjoyed my day out on the course. Open area, great for beginners like myself.
Fun course to practice your long par 3 game
This is a wonderful course to practice your mid-irons and bunker play. The course has a nice challenging aspect to it.
great course, close to home
My home course. Always in great shape. On a good day can get thru in 3 hours.
course in great shape
Had a great round today, course in good shape, weather good and no waiting.
This is a senic small course
the wife and I played this past Saturday. We were able to complete 18 holes in a little over 3 and a half hours. The pace was wonderful as well as the starter. I have played this course in the past and found it an enjoyable round each time.
Best Executive Course On Long Island
This place is by far the nicest executive course on Long Island. The Pro Shop Staff/Course Conditions/Restaurant was by far the nicest I have ever been to for an executive course. Everyone should come play this gem soon.
Sunday Funday
This was a perfect Sunday course to play with my girlfriend. Very accommodating, very pleasant staff.
Greens not ready
We started our round in the mid-afternoon. Overall course was in great condition, the greens were in poor shape and were playing fast. Great course for your short game.
Fun Course, Terrible Staff
I'm going to preface this review by saying that I am 24 years old and have now played this course three times with my 24 year old friend. I am not sure if the employees at this course don't like young golfers or if they are rude to everyone, but I have never experienced a ruder staff at a golf course, hotel, restaurant, bar, or any other place that involves hospitality for that matter.
Each of the times we've golfed we picked a tee time after 4pm which offered us both a cheaper rate and an emptier course. The first time we played we were told by the starter that we technically shouldn't be allowed to play at all since it was 4:24 and our start time was for 4:22. This was after I was harassed and held up in the pro shop for "looking like I was too young to drive a golf cart".
The second time the cashier was talking to his friend on his cell phone and overcharged me for the round because he wasn't paying attention, (all while continuing to talk to his friend). We also had the sprinklers turned on us while we were on the 2nd green.
The third time we had the ranger drive to the second fairway and rudely tell us that we weren't using the golf cart efficiently enough and that we were playing at too slow of a pace. ON AN EMPTY COURSE. (We wound up finishing the course in three hours.)
We continue coming back to this course for the cheap rates and fun par 3's but the customer service is by far the worst I've ever encountered. It's a shame that I can't give "Staff Friendliness" anything less than a 1.
Revised:
After many trips back to Heatherwood this year I have experienced nothing but politeness and professionalism from the staff, starters, and rangers. I would certainly upgrade my staff rating to five stars.
I am very sorry about the multiple bad experiences you had while at the Golf Course. There is no excuse for the treatment that you received at our facility especially since we take customer service as our number #1 priority. if you could please contact myself at Joe@CompleteGolf.biz I would like to go over you're account over the telephone or e-mail, and make you want to come back next time.
Great Beginner Course
My girlfriend and I had a great time playing there. Just the pace was a bit slow but we attributed that to the holiday.
Great Value
Well maintained terrific short course. Excellent value, Tee'd off a little past noon , paid $19 each, my son and myself, cart included, was back in my car at 4. Prefect for a part timer and my 14 year old or anyone looking for a short , quick round where you can use your driver a few times. Will definitely be back soon.
Be careful, wasp infestation at parking lot
Great little course
This is a great course if your trying to just relax and play 18. Use your driver about 5-6 times through the hole course. Depending on your stroke the rest will likely be irons. Course is pretty well maintained, a few holes could use some TLC. Overall had a great time on a short little course and will likely play again to continue to work on the irons and short game.
Small but challenging lots of bang for your buck !
Always a challenge and as always the course was in great shape even after all the rains recently. A great way to spend the weekend and to meet new people who think alike ! Golf forever !
