The Dunes At Maui Lani Golf Course
About
For golfers looking for a great Maui experience, your destination is The Dunes at Maui Lani.
Golf's most respected journalists agree: The Dunes is a must-play. Golf magazine named it among the top 35 best new golf courses in America, while Golf Digest called it one of the five "Best Kept Secret Golf Courses in America."
Designed by Robin Nelson, The Dunes at Maui Lani is immaculately maintained and brilliantly laid out. It is a tribute to the great links courses of Ireland that more than one golf writer has described as a "British Open course on Maui." Stunning dunes dot the terrain at every corner, challenging the golfer at every hole.
In addition to 18 holes of championship golf, The Dunes offers the only lighted practice range in central Maui, with grass tees, fairway and green-side bunkers and a pitching and putting green, plus an air-conditioned pavilion. Also, when not on the golf course, golfers can enjoy a four-star meal at Cafe O'Lei at The Dunes.

Easy, but a fun course to play!
Many of the holes were wide open, but there were a lot of bunkers. The elevation changes on many of the holes were really cool to play. The wind was in my face many of the holes on the front nine, but it was at my back on many of the holes on the back nine. The greens rolled pretty true to what I've played in Washington state. The staff who worked there were very friendly to me. For the money, compared to other Maui courses, this is a great one to play. I figured that's because you weren't paying for the scenery.
Very nice
Got a great deal on golf now at $59 and it was worth every penny. That was a twilight rate and it was windy, but we still enjoyed it very much. In addition the course was pretty much empty, yet in very good condition. We also had an excellent dinner at their restaurant afterwards. It really is a Maui hidden gem.
Had a great time playing this course!
The course was in great shape and, was an exceptional value. If your looking to play a fun course without paying resort prices this is your course.
Links golf on Maui
This course provides a unique golfing experience for Maui. It feels like a links course in paradise; natural sand dunes, narrow ondulating fairways that make that your ball is hardly ever on an even plain and greens that require carefull reading. Taking into consideration that it's likely to catch a few drops of rain on Maui, it's definitely Scotland in the tropics. The golf club is nothing fancy, but we paid only $50 and that's really cheap. I woud recommend this course even for the normal $112 rate. That's still a bargain in Hawaii greenfee terms. If you love golf, go there. If you just want to be pampered, pay 100 bucks more and go somewhere else.
Afternoon golf is challenging in Maui, due to the wind.
But, this course is suited to tough wind, as it has a distinct links look and feel. Nicely maintained, but not crazy fast greens. One of the better layouts n Maui, and for the cost of green fees, the best value.
Very good course for the money. Staff make the experiece great.
Some greens need work but; seems to be the same problem at other courses. Course is challenging; however, if the wind is blowing your in for a long day. One to two clubs difference every hole.
Course to play once
The course is in good condition. My issue is there are too many holes that don't fit my game. I believe others will have the same feeling.
This was our first experience on the Dunes.
It was a challenge to play this course due to lack of course layout map (none on scorecard). There were also no trash receptacles at each tee box and no ball washers. I presume we were expected to use the small wet towel provided by the starter, but it was not sufficient to wash balls and clean clubs for 18 holes, especially because the day we played (May 6, 2013) it rained lightly for the first ten holes. Also, be forewarned that after the front nine, you do not return to the clubhouse; the tenth hole is far removed from clubhouse (no opportunity for refreshments). Overall, we consider the green fees to be high for the amenities offered.
Just ok
For it being in Hawaii I had hoped it would have been a better course not saying it was bad but not great tee time was 730 and we couldn't get a drink until hole 16 when the beer cart came around so that was not good the restaurant didn't open till 830 so your out of luck if you have an early tee time the green really need some work but other than that it was a really nice lay out with some nice looking views into the hills the course is worth playing and would have no problem paying 50 buck but we paid 95 a lil to high
There are many elevated tee boxes and some narrow fairways.
Excellent layout and very challenging. The greens were inconsistent and need some work.
Nice layout, but the course was in poor condition and needs attention. They need to water the fairways and water and roll the greens.

Hidden Gem
This is the place to play in Maui. The green fees are reasonable, the course is challenging, although it would be nice to play it with someone who knows the course your first time. I hit what I thought was a pretty good drive on the 5th hole, only to find out that it was in an unseen water hazard. It feels like you are in Texas hill country more than Maui. The layout is tight and it probably wouldn't be too much fun for a 30 handicapper, but as a single digit I prefer it to Kapalua or Ka'anapali. One of the great surprises is the restaurant is fabulous and reasonbly priced. Play golf at the twilight rates and have your spouse meet you for dinner. My only negative comment is that the greens were a pock-marked, but rolled OK.
Maui Gem
This non-resort course in central Maui is my favorite on island. Every hole has distinct characher and is extremely fun. Because it is not associated with a resort, my wife and I played at 11a for significantly under the super-twilight rate via golfnow and it felt like we had this great course to ourselves.
Not bad for a lower price option in Maui
I played this course the day after playing Kapalua Plantation, so anything is easier than that but I remember it as having a number of shorter holes and not too difficult. It has a few blind shots and goes up and down some hills on the back. The course condition was ok but not great. If you want to take a day off from the high priced resorts this is an option. The course is close to the airport and some views are close to residential areas. Can see mountains in the distance but not great views.
It's worth to play there a round!
Every Thing is ok, exept the Greens. They are not so good and different in speed and condition!
For a quick meal, I recommend the restaurant.
Pace of play very slow, no monitoring
The managment of this course is lacking: reflected in letting a 7-some play in front of us and no monitoring by a marshall. In addition, greens were shaggy and not very playable.
Great value for the money
The course is wonderful and the staff is even better. The club
house has the best value lunch on Maui . They really appreciate you as a customer and the course is challenging but once you have played it , one can do better in the scoring area.
good course, great value and friendly staff
Course has some real challenges but also plays well for higher handicaps. Very accommodating staff and a very good restaurant! The Dunes is our "go to" golf course on Maui!
