For golfers looking for a great Maui experience, your destination is The Dunes at Maui Lani.

Golf's most respected journalists agree: The Dunes is a must-play. Golf magazine named it among the top 35 best new golf courses in America, while Golf Digest called it one of the five "Best Kept Secret Golf Courses in America."

Designed by Robin Nelson, The Dunes at Maui Lani is immaculately maintained and brilliantly laid out. It is a tribute to the great links courses of Ireland that more than one golf writer has described as a "British Open course on Maui." Stunning dunes dot the terrain at every corner, challenging the golfer at every hole.

In addition to 18 holes of championship golf, The Dunes offers the only lighted practice range in central Maui, with grass tees, fairway and green-side bunkers and a pitching and putting green, plus an air-conditioned pavilion. Also, when not on the golf course, golfers can enjoy a four-star meal at Cafe O'Lei at The Dunes.

Challenging course with surprising terrain features

I enjoyed the course elevation changes and blind shots along with the water hazards. There are several holes that I would play differently now that I have some experience. The course maintenance requires some improvement; i.e. #10 played a par 3 due to maintenance.

They don't call it The Dunes for nothing

We had a great round of golf. We scored on the golf.now for special rate tee time! They are making the course more women friendly which we loved! The greens were actually slow today and hole placement not so bad as some days there. Just don't go in the sand and scores can be low. The tradewinds weren't blowing as hard as they can so we had a beautiful day of golf. Will play here again cause we live here!

Our first game of the year

Coming out of the cold and snow of central Canada, this was a delightful yet challenging start to our golf season.
We play this course each time we return to Maui.

The staff are charming at every level.

It is a highlight of our trip.
Enjoy!

Going downhill

This course used to be the best on Maui but its not being maintained. A fair amount of weeds in the intermediate rough and the greens were slow and inconsistent.

This is not a typical resort style, Hawaii scenic course. If you want great views, go to Wailea or Kapalua. But I believe this is the best golf course on Maui. It demands a lot of shots, and your misses will be penalized.

I get the sense that this course is being played almost exclusively by locals. There are no GPS systems in the cart and there are no yardage books despite quite a few holes where knowing the safe distance to hit is make or break.

I hope they spend some time on the greens and get a handle on some of the maintenance issues. This is an amazing track that is just sad to see going downhill

Disapointed

Condition of the course was disappointing. Many of the fairways were dry and the tee boxes were in terrible condition. The golf carts were old, seats were ripped, and no GPS.

A diamond in the rough

For the last fifteen years, I have visited Maui twice a year. Each time, I try to play The Dunes at least once. The course is well maintained, has some very long holes, a scenic setting with views galore from many holes. There are lots of elevation changes and blind hazzards so playing multiple times would give one an advantage. Even though the tee sheet was full on the day we played (wife and me) we only had to wait on one or two holes. Most of the golfers here are locals. The staff treats you well with a cool towel to greet you after the round. The range is lit for use at night. A fun place for the avid golfer on vacation. The 19th hole is the famous Cafe O'Lait at the Dunes - serves a fantastic dinner by Maui standards.

Worst of four courses played in Maui

We would have never played this golf course if we knew what we know now. No GPS. No yardage book. Nothing to tell you where to hit and most holes are blind tee shots. It was not fun.
The bar would not let us take beer onto the course and there was no place to get something to eat after the first nine. Sad to have had this course be our last for our Maui vacation.

Slow play

We played as a threesome, but had a group of 5 ahead of us. They wouldn't let us play through and no marshal to monitor pace of play. Made for a 5 hour round.

A very pleasant surprise.

We thoroughly enjoyed our round at the Dunes. The layout was very engaging, lots of up and downs. Fairways and greens in very good shape, except the cups were uniformly ragged. We're able to play as a twosome and were allowed to start early, which is always a nice surprise. Had a great lunch at "The Cafe." All-in-all the day was a super value.

Great variety of holes and challenges, yet very playable

We enjoying our round a lot and plan to play again while we're here on this trip. The last hole was the biggest challenge, but we hope to play that hole with more finesse next round. We also had a wonderful lunch as well before our round of play.

Super golf at a super convenient location

On island for a morning meeting, then back to Honolulu, so we caught a quick round of 18 at Maui Lani. What a treat. No need to drive 45 minutes to get championship golf, challenging conditions and at a Golf Now price. Forgot the starter's name, but he embodies the true aloha spirit that every golfer hopes to experience. Everyone was friendly, accommodating, and helpful. Five minutes following our round, we were back at OGG to catch a 6:15pm departure.

Needs to get with the times

This was a fun track, however for $85 is a bit steep. For that price I would've expected a cart to be electric, with a GPS system and at least a windshield and water cooler, not a noisy gas powered without ANY of the current carts have.

The course was difficult to navigate and gauge the distances. There were little to no markers on the course. I wasn't sure where the pin placement which made guessing a norm for the round.

Little details like yardage books and pin placement sheets would have been appreciated. Management would benefit from reviews on here.

difficult for recreantional golfers

Poor, noisy, smelly gasoline powercarts without gps. Many blind tee and fairway shots.Deep bunkers with high lips-suitable for a championship course, not a Hawaaian resort track. We were ten minutes less than five hours due to a junior tournament ahead of us,which if we had known beforehand we would never have booked. It was fortunate that we got the"hot deal"for $65 pp or we would have been really steamed. I would never pay more than that, but that may be a moot point since my wife says she won't play there again.

Fun tract with a few challenges.

The people who work here have always been friendly.
The course was in good shape, the greens fast and true.
My friends and I have always enjoyed our rounds here when on
Maui. The only course to have Mike's hard lemonade in the cart, especially good with a cup of ice to pour it over.
Always a fun tract put challenging if you don't hit it in the right spot.
