Old Hickory Country Club

About
Old Hickory Country Club in Beaver Dam is situated on land that was used simply as pasture for grazing cattle and sheep before it was transformed into a basic, but interesting nine-hole golf course by Scottish designer Tom Bendelow. Seeing the potential of the terrain, the course was later expanded into 18 holes by Robert Greaves. The golf course originally opened for play in 1920, which has given it plenty of time to mature into the challenging course it is today. Towering oak and hickory trees line the fairways and there are 30 bunkers strategically placed throughout the golf course, most heavily along the greensides. The gently rolling terrain provides subtle but tricky contours. Long, straight drives will be generously rewarded at Old Hickory Country Club, and accuracy is also essential for doing well.

Nice course layout
The course was in good condition and a bit challenging. I would absolutely play it again and recommend to friends.
Great course, excellent conditions.
The course was in great shape! Greens were rolling fast and true. A couple tee boxes could use a little work but nothing that makes any difference. Awesome course and in great shape.
Surprisingly Great Track
In Beaver Dam, you’ll find a great track. Well conditioned and maintained. Lots of tee options for all levels of players. Not surrounded by homes, you can enjoy the beautiful WI countryside.
Nice little gem hidden in Central, Wisconsin
This course was not only fun to play but very scenic. Pace was slowed down by a couple of groups but otherwise pretty average. It is very hilly and slopes quite frequently
Hidden Gem
This place is top tier. The conditions were absolutely perfect as we’ve had great weather this season and the staff manicured everything nicely, had a couple college kids in a little utility buggy going from green to green and some teeboxes doing something with dirt/seed - I assume filling in any potential bad spots. The course layout is spectacular. Quite a few holes that may have 70 feet of elevation change in a nice rolling hills feel. Trees are old growth but not penal. Sand in bunkers was nice and soft. Nice flat teeboxes. Rough was beautifully lush and fairways were excellent. Greens were quick and true. Carts have GPS and show distance to carts in the group ahead, and while they have the auto-slow feature to slow your cart down when you get too close to ‘restricted’ areas, they don’t make you put the cart in reverse and back straight out, they allow you to keep moving forward to get to the cart path (albeit very slowly). I played this on a GolfNow deal and feel like I ripped them off. It really is a gem of a course. I would absolutely play here more but it’s a little over an hour away and there’s not much to do between the course and home (Waukesha). Maybe that’s a good thing because it keeps this gem a little more hidden. You local guys are pretty lucky.
Great course
Old Hickory is a beautiful and well maintained course.
It's one of the best courses in the area!
Very nice
Traveling from Chicago to mpls. Glad we stopped
Pace of play was slow(coarse full, good sign) so we skipped a few holes to get back on the road.
Greens great, fast and true. Very nice. Will return!
Great conditions and value!
Golfed this course immediately following a large two-day outing. Despite that, the course was still in great condition. Staff was hospitable and quick to service the course emptying garbage and general cleanup after the outing. Lots mature trees, variety of hole length and geography. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed due to the outing, but I’ll try that out again next time.
Well maintained course. The value you receive is by far greater than the cost. My dad's (90 yrs. old) favorite course.
Goood time with friends.
Beautiful layout, course was in great shape greens fast and true. Weather very nice for late October. Only few holes had leaf problem, expected for time of year. Will be back.
