Washington County Golf Course
About
Located just northwest of downtown Milwaukee, Washington County Golf Club (formerly known as Family Park Golf Course) feels much further thanks to its seclusion in the beautiful Kettle Moraine area. Arthur Hills designed the course, which is ranked second in the nation among municipal golf course in Golf Digest. The layout sprawls across wide-open, gently rolling terrain. The subtle contours of the landscape provide a few difficult lies and they can also make the greens hard to read but overall it is a course that most players can approach with confidence. Thanks to a versatile layout it appeals to a wide range of skill levels and it is an ideal spot for tournaments and events. Over the years Washington County Golf Club has hosted several championships including the U.S. Open Qualifying Round and the Wisconsin PGA Championship.

Amazing Value
This place is a must play in the state of Wisconsin. Great value, close to other fantastic courses( 10 mins from Erin Hills), and wow what a well conditioned golf course amazing for a municipal course. Course is very playable with well sized landing areas, but if you miss you are either in a bunker that you can play from or in fescue grass but not super thick and definitely playable from. Greens are magnificent some of the best I have played on. Super receptive to spin have them special feeling when you walk on them. They also role so true and very quick. First 5-6 holes are are great warm-up getting you feeling good then you get to #7 which is a very well designed par 5, from tee to green this hole is a bear. Back nine is similar couple of good warm-up getting you feeling good holes then hammer you with a tough 15th and a very tough 200 plus par 3 with a wind out of the west made it very difficult. All in all you cant beat the value of this play $40 before 10 am M-F is unheard of. Make sure you check this place out.
Great Hot Deal
This is one of the best public course owned by a municipality. Getting a GolfNow Hot Deal certainly makes us want to go back. Very hard to beat.
Excellent course, great conditions, awful pace of play
Played here a few times. Fairways are probably some of the best I've ever played. Greens very nice and in great shape. Very challenging layout---need to know the angles and nuances of the fairways to play well here.
Biggest problem---especially on this day--was pace of play. We booked the round as a two some. Got there and they told us we were being paired with another two some. So after a warm up on the range, we go the first tee about 15 minutes prior to our scheduled time.
No starter so its sort of "everyone just figure this out" kind of thing. We watched a two some tee off and take off. Then another two some teed off--same thing. Then a singe tees off and he takes off. Then another two some tees off---one of which who was walking. Then it was our turn. After watching this all happen, we said to each other, "this is going to be a problem."
And sure enough.......it was. We constantly waited and and watched as two somes and a single just completely bogged down the pace of play. Well....lets talk to the marshal. Except there wasn't one. Never saw one all day.
On the 13th hole, we were coming off the green and met the two some in front of us, who accused us of hitting into them. We tried to explain that didn't think we did and we apologized, but we asked them why they didn't pair up with the single that was in front of them to try to move things along. It was just a mess out there. They needed a starter and a marshal. Would have been a much more enjoyable experience. It never fun arguing with other players on the golf course, and this could have been avoided had there been more organization at the first tee, ie, a starter.
Best Muni
This was my first time playing Washington County, and I was very impressed. We had a 6:21AM tee time, but our twosome was allowed to tee a bit early. Our pace of play was great - never had to wait or feel rushed. We were able to take our time, but still finished 18 in just over
3 hours from the White tees.
There was rain early that morning prior to us playing, so the fairways and greens were a bit damp, which allowed the greens to play a bit slower, but was still quite a challenge for this golfer.
The conditions of the course were very good. There were some ball marks on the greens that were un-repaired, but these were minimal.
This Course was a bit of a drive for me (~50 minutes away), but it was completely worth it. I will definitely be back.
awesome course!!!
Northing bad to say this course and staff is amazing!!!!!
What a Gem
Came across this gem of a course and was happy I picked it. The staff was friendly and sent us out about 15 minutes early. What a course, conditions were incredible and the course was very challenging. Fairways were the best I have played in several years and the greens were firm and quick. Great layout that will challenge any level golfer from the back tees. Great value as well.
Great course
This course is a great municipal owned track. A little light on staff (no starter, no ranger). Course is in great shape. True greens, penal fescue, long enough. Will be back.
Great course
The twilight rate is a great value. The course is in great condition. Greens are fast and true. Only negative is the number of ball marks left by idiots who don't know what repair tool is, or who are to rude to care
Top notch county course
Course was in very nice shape. Greens were consistent and true. Can play tough when the wind picks up, as there are not many trees.
Tremendous value
This course has hands down been one of my favorite courses for years. Fair, yet challenging regardless your handicap. The value is incredible
Doing it right
Read some of the other reviews after playing: I'd characterize the sub-par reviews as amateurish & easily worth discounting. Bottom line is this a great place to golf. Conditions were near perfect for this time of year, and paying the twilight rate meant I got some great golf on the cheap. It was CRAZY windy & I was following a USGA qualifying event that morning, so I saw a course that had some nasty pin placements & some spots of rough that ate a few golf balls. Zero complaint from this guy. I'd never played an Arthur Hill course before, so I lack some reference, but enjoyed what I saw. Lot of doglegs, offering some risk/reward fun; there were a couple bunkers to either "go over" or "aim at" to help on tee shots. Greens were very consistent, fairways, tee boxes too. Not a lot of trees at all, and the bunkers were in great shape. I'd characterize most fairways as generous, more premium on approach shots. (With the wind & course set up, I will admit to not paying too much attention to course architecture. It was all this clown could do to make good contact.) This track is just a short hop from Erin Hills, so I'd say if you're visiting, fig it out & play here that week. The folks of Washington County have a top-notch golf facility to play: you should check it out.
Love the course
You can see the whole course all over the place very open fun course
Definitely not 4 1/2 stars, but a nice muni
The 4 1/2 star rating is way overdone, but Washington County was a very good municipal course. Would give it a 3 1/2 star rating if I could. Course was in really nice shape in the summer. It's a decent enough challenge, but I wouldn't say there's anything overly special about the layout. The prices on GolfNow during the summer have been way over what I would spend there. It feels right in the $30-35 range. Washington County doesn't have a ton of good golf, but this course is a good option out there.
very good course, well disigned.
would recommend you play this course.
