Washington County Golf Course
About
Located just northwest of downtown Milwaukee, Washington County Golf Club (formerly known as Family Park Golf Course) feels much further thanks to its seclusion in the beautiful Kettle Moraine area. Arthur Hills designed the course, which is ranked second in the nation among municipal golf course in Golf Digest. The layout sprawls across wide-open, gently rolling terrain. The subtle contours of the landscape provide a few difficult lies and they can also make the greens hard to read but overall it is a course that most players can approach with confidence. Thanks to a versatile layout it appeals to a wide range of skill levels and it is an ideal spot for tournaments and events. Over the years Washington County Golf Club has hosted several championships including the U.S. Open Qualifying Round and the Wisconsin PGA Championship.

WCGC never disappoints
After a wet Spring, the course was is great condition, greens were firm, no plugged balls, no mushy fairways. This golf course is a dream, Thanks to the WCGC staff and grounds team!!
What wind
First time in a long time there was not a lot of wind very very enjoyable to play this golf course
Windy but fun
The wind was gusting to probably 35 mph, which made golfing very very difficult and also physically uncomfortable. That said, the course condition, given the amount or rain over the past month, was close to excellent.. I will wait for a much calmer day before I come back, but the layout is always fun, and I will be back..
Challenging but accessible
First time playing this Arthur Hills designed beauty. Everything is, according to the pro shop guy “right in front of you” which sounds simple enough, but with 15mph winds at every angle, the course gets tricky. Walked as a single, fast pace of play. Greens read true, not lightning fast but still challenging. Nice placement of fairway bunkers and challenging second cut. Will definitely be back on a less windy day to see how it plays. Would recommend!
A favorite
WCGC is a course I’ve played dozens of times. It offers a beautiful layout and challenges around every corner. I believe it sits very high on the cost/value scale.
The only thing that kept it from perfection this time around was that due to the ton of rain we’ve had, there were 4 holes restricted to path only. This slowed play on these holes a bit, but overall round time was still fine.
I always recommend this course to friends and family, and I’m certain anyone reading this will enjoy their round here. FYI it is very open. Check the wind forecast, it plays heavy here. Bring a pullover.
great course
despite cool windy conditions and a somewhat damp course we had a fun round. carts were not allowed on 4 holes, but overall the fairways were in nice shape. The greens were in excellent shape.
It's worth your time
It's been quite a while since I've played a links course. The last time I played one was Chambers Bay outside Seattle, this place was better than Chambers Bay In every way
The course was in great shape. Both the fairways and the greens we're lush, but firm.
My only complaint would be that prior to the round I wanted to have breakfast at the course restaurant. They did not have even the most basic breakfast items. All they had was some frozen premade stuff that they would reheat. I had to drive 10 minutes into town to get a decent breakfast. Also it was a hot sunny day and there was no beverage cart. However, there was plenty of water coolers spread around of course which is good on a links course where there is little shade.
Overall, I would highly recommend this course. Pace of play for a Sunday morning was good at 3hrs 53min. I would definitely play here again if the opportunity arises.
Perfect day
So-so golf but a great weather day, course was an excellent shape. The starter was very helpful.
Always top notch
Highly recommend to all my friends when they come to Wisconsin! Look, if you Dont play Erin hills, head on over to wash cty gc! It’s Big and fun and gives me a reminder of Erin every time I play here wow! I play Erin 2x/yr.
Drew in the pro shop wants you to be happy with the experience everytime and that matters. (Cart girl not so much-drive over here by us don’t make us walk to you please-credit for its 730 am haha)
Now the course can’t control the 6 am slow play in front of you but hey slow down and take a look around like we did! The course can’t control patrons who won’t clean ball marks on greens, but everything else was great! Hope I can play here 10x or more this year.
Very Nice Golf Course
The layout is challenging but not overwhelming. The hills create blind shots and change how long some of the holes (elevation change). Course was in great condition. Fairways and greens are well maintained and the rough will cost you if you’re ball is not sitting up.
washington county
GREAT COURSE, GREAT LAYOUT, PICTURESQE,
GOOD VALUE FOR YOUR MONEY. ENJOY THIS COURSE.
Excellent
An excellent Lynx style course that always presents challenges. I shared a tee time w fellas playing from 6600 yards while I played from 5500. I saw more of the course that way and I really love it. Best course in the area
A Milwaukee area must!!!
I hadn't been to Washington County in at least 4-5 years as it was always a favorite of mine when I lived in the Milwaukee area so it was good to get back to see it from a reviewer's perspective.
If you're a golfer and you live in WI, you love fall golf and the day we played, it was perfect fall golf weather. 60 degrees and sunny. Leaves changing colors all over the place.
The value: We played 36 holes for $63 with cart! Fantastic deal.
The course:
It is wide open with a good mix of elevation changes, doglegs, and variety in hole design you will not be bored with. You cannot spray your drives as you can still find the long grass off the tee or other well place bunkers that demand your attention. Long hitters can really swing away but still have to be accurate. For the average golfer, the white tees still provide a good test as one of the course's defenses is the wind. We played the Blue tees in the morning in calm conditions and the whites in the afternoon . The wind negated any yardage advantage especially if you were hitting into it.
The course does not have a signature hole in my opinion but what really stands out is the conditioning. It was as good as any country club I have played. Greens were fast and rolling true and the fairways were lush, green carpets. You would not believe this is a municipal course.
Speaking of those greens. They are also another one of the courses best defenses. Plenty of undulation and subtle breaks really make par difficult if you're on the wrong side of the hole. Local knowledge would be helpful in deciding where to hit your approach shots.
I know they charge close to $80 for non residents during peak season but if the course is the condition is was in today, it's worth your money. The practice facility is top notch with short game area and practice holes as well.
Milwaukee County golf courses are pretty good for value but they don't come close to this gem of a facility. Can't wait to head back
Great Course
I can't get enough of this place , especially now that fall has arrived .
I've played here quite a bit and have always enjoyed it but now that fall has arrived I really love it due to the lack of leaves . This place reminds me of Erin Hills without the big price and minus the 2 mile walk just from the greens to the next tee box.
