Murrayshall House Hotel & Golf Club - The Murrayshall Course

About
The Murrayshall Course at Murrayshall House Hotel & Golf Club, a championship course on 350 acres of rolling parkland, was designed by Hamilton J. Stutt, the grandson of James Braid's chief foreman. The golf course, which opened in 1981, is built around an imposing country house hotel overlooking the vale of Strathmore and the mountains of Highland Perthshire.
With tree-lined fairways, accuracy is key to a good score on the par-73 golf course that measures 6,489 yards. Large white sand bunkers protect expansive but tricky greens. Natural stone bridges span water hazards that will test the accuracy of iron play.
Murrayshall's 379-yard seventh hole is probably the most testing of the first half of the course. It is a tight dog leg right, with a narrow entrance to the green, well guarded with a thicket of fully grown trees and a burn.

Expected more
Walked into the golf shop and was met by a member of the groundstaff swearing, with no apology offered.
Was also told that Golf Now continue to take bookings even when they're full. Was going to have an additional 20 minute wait but decided to play the other course instead.
Emailed Murrayshall with my concerns and nobody's bothered getting back to me.
Not a great experience and expected better
Play in the summer
Stunning views, great course in summer but in winter is was sodden, even on a dry day. Greens were furry and slow. Some tees were like bogs so wait 3 months and play in May to September
Tee time bookings mean nothing here - avoid
We arrived for our 9.10am tee time to find 40+ seniors milling about the first tee.
They started teeing off at about 9am. The pro shop staff member advised we wouldn’t be able to play at 9.10 because of the seniors. He said we could start at the 12th and play, or play the Lyndoch course, the 2nd course, essentially a 9 hole course played 2x. No discount was offered.
As we had a tee time booked, and paid for, I feel the course should have honoured the time- even if it upset a few members.
Doubt we’ll be back.
Decent course
Tricky course with a lot of tough tee shots. Greens immaculate however, the semi could have done with a cut.
Murrayshall course
Winter course just now, so a few hole changes which don’t spoil the course; some winter greens. Pace of play fine. Members and Staff helpful. Overall, enjoyed my round.
Poor weather
poor weather and constant heavy rain cause the course to be very wet in places ,
This Course is a big hill !!
Course in great condition, too hilly for me, massive hills up and down, no level lies during the round. Would not play again without a defibrillator.
Different
Course is extremely bizarre in its set up particularly the front nine. Far too many holes with 90 degree doglegs and a ridiculous par five where the first shot off tea is
Limited to no more than a wedge shot. Course in great condition but a bit of a slog up and down hills. Greens were immaculate. Too tricked up for me
Top marks
course is in pristine condition, staff wee amazing and went out their way to help with queries and info . Would thoroughly recommend this course to anyone, we will be coming back to play again soon
Covid-19 stag do replacement
So this was supposed my best mate stag do where we were supposed to be in Munich. Unfortunately not everyone who was meant to be coming on the stag could make it.
We booked this as something to do. Course was fantastic and the pace was fantastic. The layout was nice and easy to follow. Was a fantastic day out and would highly recommend to anyone.
Already planning the next visit.
Well worth it
Such a great course. Green were a little bumpy at times, but having been closed for 9 weeks, they were impressively well kept. It’s a long course, helped by decent walks between green and tees, but for the sake of getting the best layout. Tight fairways at times also made it a good challenge for most levels of golfers.
A lovely distinctive course in great condition
I have played here around a dozen times over the last 3 years. I have always thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It is a parkland course with very different holes; there is lovely difference to each hole. Challenging I would say for a lowish handicapper , and certainly for the occasional player such as myself. The course was in great condition, which is notable given the amount of rain we have had over the last few weeks. The staff are always friendly and welcoming and the cafe/ bar stocks. We boom using the GolfNow special offers so find it very reasonably priced indeed.
Golf
Lucky with the weather. We really enjoyed it, even though we had to walk the course.some steep climbs. Age 81, I shot a gross 79...yay. Off the yellows. H/C 15. So a great time. Course in excellent condition considering the heavy rain over previous few days.
