The Cowden at Muckhart Golf Club
About
The Cowden's nine holes at Muckhart Golf Club are the original nine where golf has been played for nearly 100 years at the foot of the Ochil Hills. Virtually no changes have been made to the layout during this time.
Muckhart Golf Club has 27 holes comprising three courses of 18 holes on a rotating basis. The Cowden Course measures 3,251 yards from the medal tees, and par is 36 for the nine holes.
Cowden's signature holes are the fifth and ninth. No. 5 is a challenging par 4 crossing two valleys, with the green backed by the Ochil hills. No. 9 is normally the last hole in an 18-hole round and is considered one of the finest finishing holes in Scottish golf. The drive has to be steered between a stream and a water hazard, and only the very longest hitters will consider taking on the burn in front of the green with their second shot.

Golfer Reviews
Can you better this!!
First time playing golf in Scotland. Struggled to get a tee time anywhere on a Saturday afternoon. So glad I came across this gem. Steve in the shop got me on 20 minutes before my allocated time. The first nine holes I only saw one single player. It was a bit busier on the back nine but nothing to hold me up. The course conditions and surroundings were outstanding. Every hole gave you something to think about re off the tee or your approach. The greens were fast but once you worked out the pace they were fair. All in all a great day.
Really good
Played a 3 ball here in the baking sun. Greens and fairways were in superb condition. Greens were lightning quick. Pace of play was bang on as we weren't waiting or holding anyone up. It's a bit pricey but it was good. We will definitely be back....but only at a discounted price.
Give it a go.
Very friendly reception on arrival. Course was in good condition and fun to play. Not too long but not too easy either. No one in front or behind us which made it a very relaxed round. We'll be back.
Marvellous Muckart
A very pleasant round of golf in a most stunning setting. We were made very welcome at this club by the Professional and clubhouse staff. The members that we came across were really friendly. I will definately be back before the Summer ends. Muckart epitomises how to encourage visitors to a Golf Club.
A real surprise
This golf club comprises three 9 hole tracks offering great flexibility. The course set up involved the Naemoor and Cowden courses. The conditions were excellent - the layout is good and the conditions were really superb. The greens were fast and challenging. Staff were very friendly and helpful and we enjoyed an excellent lunch in the clubhouse after the round. Highly recommended. Because it was quiet I played the remaining track - the Arndean. It did seem the easiest of the three. Wide open fairways, well maintained bunkers. All in all - a thoroughly enjoyable day.
Fun
There are three 9s, I okayed Naemoor-Cowden. Naemoor is open but still a challenge to score on. Cowden is the oldest 9, narrower and fun. Bar and restaurant open. Particular praise to the Pro, who was so welcoming and helpful.
Stunning Course. Particularly Helpful Staff
Fab round today at Muckhart. Course in fantastic condition. Really challenging but enjoyable.
Booked round via Golf Now - made a slight error in the booking but the absolutely superb gentlemen in the pro shop sorted out for me.
Will be back very soon.
Good job.
Excellent Course
Excellent course and was in great condition even though we have had torrential rain over the last week. Greens were in good condition although a little slow. I am seriously considering joining the club.
Great course in fantastic condition
I had travelled up from Newcastle and had the day to kill so booked in last minute. Pro Shop was great, friendly and helpful. Explained the course to me and got me on early to avoid a 4 ball that was due to go off. The course was in great condition with some interesting holes. Some long par 3's!
Definitely worth a round!
Muckhart Golf Club
We had a really enjoyable day at Muckhart Golf Club.
Professional was super helpful, we hadn’t played there before. Course was great and no slow play. Topped off with a terrific lunch. We’ll be back!
Course has a good variety of holes
Good condition considering there had been a lot of rain fall the previous few days. Some of the par 4s are challenging with raised greens but a good test of your game.
The original back nine (Cowden) is going through a lot of tree felling. As such it is a bit of an eye sore. We were told by the club pro that the greens were in the same condition as the front nine. Clearly not, covered in sand with hollow tining having taken place. In very poor condition even taking in to consideration the time of year.
Will not be returning in a hurry
