Kinross Golf Club's Bruce course offer golfers staying in Perthshire near Gleneagles and St. Andrews an affordable, parkland option. Previously known as Kinross Golf Club's Red Course, it was relaunched in 2006 as Bruce (the name comes from a family that has owned an estate around Loch Leven for the last three centuries).
The Bruce course is 6,231 yards and plays to a par 73. Undulating greens, streams and ponds are spread throughout and a number of holes have views over Loch Leven to the hills beyond. You can catch those sites through glimpses of the tree-lined fairways, which are on all of the holes - a mixture of cherries, oaks, beech, ash, pine, larch and spruce.
The Bruce is considered the junior course at Kinross Golf Club, but that's in name only. Its reputation is anything but "junior." Par for the first nine holes is a whopping 39, which includes a run of four par 5s in six holes. The highlight of that stretch is the sixth, known as "the pond hole."
Kinross Golf Club has been in existence since 1888, but, like most courses in the area, the original course was lost to World War II. A new nine-hole course replaced it on a new site, which forms the first four and final five holes of the Bruce.
Visiting golfers, clubs and societies are all welcome and tee times can be reserved at weekends as well as weekdays. Special discounted green fees are available for the residents of both the Green Hotel and the Windlestrae Hotel.

1st time playing and a last min booking.
Arrived, got settled, went to pro shop where the guy was helpful, & gave us a few tips as 1st timers for the course.
Played the Bruce.
Course was in excellent condition.
Green staff were all cutting by the look of it so we maybe reaped the benefits.
Each cut from fairway out defined. Greens were excellent & receptive.
Found a couple of bunkers between us but no complaints with them.
Got caught a couple of times with blind shots having not played it.
Club house was great, staff friendly, food was excellent.
We will 100% be back again.
Really made very welcome. Course in good condition but tees a bit scruffy. Some interesting holes. Definitely good value for their number2 course. Pace of play poor because we were behind a group of 4 balls - but we knew what to expect from the pro. Would I play it again? - yes.
Excellent morning’s golf on the Bruce course
Very much enjoyed our three-ball in good weather. The course was looking beautiful and we didn’t have too long to wait on any tees (for a Sunday, at least). Only minor grumble was the greens which were a little early-season patchy and bobbly. Nothing that spoiled our enjoyment, however.
Fab layout
Course was not busy so friendly Pro let me away sharp and got round in 3 hrs. Layout and greens were great and members friendly. Only reason not full marks were bunkers with lots of stones with not much sand.
Great track in good condition for time of year
Nicely laid out course with a variety of interesting and challenging tree-lined holes. Certainly worth a visit and possibly a more enjoyable track than its big brother The Mongomerie
Great challenge - bunkers eugh!
Great course, well laid out! Informed I could’ve played for less as tied in with home course. Bunkers are like gravel and little sand which lets it down.
Hospitality and clubhouse were very good.
Good Experiane
Really friendly staff at the pro shop when I arrived, warm welcome. Lovely course, it was just a shame it had a few winter greens, but that’s to be expected at this time of year. Pace of play was really quick so did feel a little bit rushed at times until we got stuck behind a load of 4 balls on the last few holes which slowed things right down, but overall a good experience. Would definitely come back again to see it in summer conditions!
Bruce course
Excellent visit. Pro shop staff was super helpful helping with a late member. Course discussed and card marked up to help but forgot to mention winter greens that were in play. Course is in excellent condition apart from bunkers which need stones removed and a bit more sand. Clubhouse was very nice with very friendly staff. Will definitely return.
Fabulous Course
Excellent mix of holes, course in very good condition, everyone friendly, pro helpful and informative. Overall a very enjoyable day. I actually prefer this course to the Montgomery, not by much though. Recommended to all.
The only small criticism would be signage to next tee could be improved.
Greens in great condition
The rough between fairways is too thick and doesn’t give you much chance to play out of and the sand in the bunkers in very coarse and full of stones. Otherwise the course was very nice and in good condition
Beautiful but difficult
Thoroughly enjoyed our round, weather was excellent even if the golf wasn't
The only issue was a lot of leaves now lying around which made finding any errant balls difficult.
Would definitely recommend.
The catering afterwards was very good and we enjoyed a hearty lunch.
