Greenock Golf Club - Championship
About
Locals call the 18-hole course at Greenrock Golf Club "the big course," an easy name for a tough layout, redesigned in 1924 by James Braid to a standard hard to duplicate even today. At 5,850 yards, the course plays short compared to monster courses currently built, but it doesn't make for a breezy stroll: Narrow fairways and tiny undulating greens challenge all levels. The semimoorland course features several tree-lined fairways and enough burns and bunkers to keep you shooting straight.
The first holes on the 18-hole course at Greenrock Golf Club play on undulating terrain. The short sixth heads uphill to the higher-altitude portion. You're peaking on the seventh, so take a peek at the world around - the view is described as among the best from any Scottish course. Stay focused, though: The seventh is a tough fight to make par-3 and begins a stretch of six holes that make or break rounds. Finish these, and you arrive at the downhill 13th hole, with its clustered bunkers to begin the home stretch.
Once you've accomplished the 18-hole course at the Greenrock Golf Club, head to the clubhouse for views and brews.

Nice views - hilly so probs avoid in winter
Some brilliant holes on this course. Did not like the couple of holes straight uphill but the good holes more than outnumbered and made up for that. Not trolley friendly in the winter but def one to play on a nice calm summers day and enjoy the great views.
Stunning views
Cracking course with stunning views from miles up over the port at Greenock as u get to the top. Would say, if ur not up for a hike, hire a buggy. Quite hilly and you’ll feel it afterwards.
Brilliant
Ive played 350 courses in the last 3 years and Greenock right up there as one of my all time favourites. The course was in magnificent condition - actually feel as if playing in the Scottish Highlands with all the pine trees, gorse etc. A few hills to climb but the views from on high are stunning. Every single hole was top notch - so much fun to play and the 18th as a closing hole beautiful but tough. Friendly welcome and a nice clubhouse too. Honestly didn't expect it to be quite as good as it was. Loved it.
This course has spectacular views
Excellent course with well maintained greens and well laid out. Set in a beautiful location overlooking the river Clyde. Definitely recommend. Very welcoming people on and off the course.
The terrain makes it tough
Unfortunately we visited after heavy rain , and the Pro requested that we play from the sides or on mats so this made the game a bit less interesting but couldn't be helped
The course is not for the weak its a fair hike up and down many steep hills, the real challenge being the turn at hole 10 , its a long way down to come backup.
The course layout and design of holes is very good and some real challenges.
The views from the top are outstanding.
It would be good to visit on a dry day.
Very good course
Considering recent weather in this area this course was in vert good condition
