Inviting forested property
We had a great afternoon at St. Germain. Our original plans were wiped out Sunday by heavy rain and wind. We decided to try Tuesday as that fit into our summer vacation schedule. Course drained exceptionally well for having such a wet weekend. Staff was polite and helpful. Sand traps were being repaired from the wet weather as we played through. Very good conditions for a city owned course and is a few notches above our local tracks in Milwaukee County. An after round dinner in the clubhouse would have been the icing on the cake, but it was closed? We will see you again in September!
Conditions not the best
The course was not is very good shape. Bunkers really bad. A lot of fairways had many bare spots or lack of much grass.
Was disappointed in the condition of the course. Not worth 60 some dollars
no rain check
I prepaid for 2 people on the internet. It was heavy rain and lightening at our tee time. They refused to give a rain check. I had to call the internet company two days latter and they did refund but it bothered me for two days. IMHO, if they don't want to give full service on all reservations then they should not use discount internet services.
Best course in the northwoods
This is a challenging but fun course that is absolutely beautiful . Highly recommended if you’re in the area .
Good to be back up North
The in-laws wanted to get some golf in over the Holiday weekend so we stopped by St. Germain for 18. My folks have had a place on Little Saint for 30 Years and we have played dozens of rounds here. The summer-like weather had everything green and the course seemed to be coming out of the winter dormancy pretty well. We missed our previous trip up earlier this month due to the ice still being on the lake for the opener. One of the attendents mentioned the snow finally melted around the first of May. Another group we talked to on the practice green were full time residents and noted the last few weeks were mild. Memorial weekend can be hit or miss with temperatures but this time we had a beautiful day. Overall we had a great round and each passing year the experience and property has some updates. We are very pleased to have this course just 5 miles down the road from where we spend 7 weeks each summer.
A great afternoon of golf
Even after a rough winter course was in good shape will been a couple of weeks to return to usual form. Pace of play was excellent, but no wildlife this time. Will return many times this summer.
First timer and we’ll be back
Enjoyed a buddies trip to St. Germain this past weekend. We had never played here before or golfed in the area this early in the season. Cart employee pointed out the long winter but recent weather was dry and warm. The course has a very good layout and local knowledge will help us the next go around. Friendly folks from start to finish. Spoke to a greens crew employee preparing a bunker and recommended a couple good watering holes for later in the day. We’ll be back in late June for some fishing and golf, thanks for a good day. -Bill
$$$
Ok course, but too expensive to repeatedly play. I think they would get more play if they had better pricing. It is a shorter season up here and they try to make it up with the summer tourists.
Smug Staff
Love the course. We have an eight some that have gone there every year for the past 8 years. Last year, the staff was very rude to us. Not helpful at all. This is 4 couples late 50's to late 60's. This year, we we be golfing down the road where they want our business.
My sister and I golfed following a 3 some and waited on almost all of the fist nine holes for the three guys ahead of us, so on the next nine we basically golfed one shot behind them because they would not let us play through even though there wasn't anyone in front of them or behind us. Overall my sister and I had a great day and golfed good even though we basically golfed with a 5 some.
Top Notch facility
First time guest with my buddies that were up on a fishing weekend. We had heard it was a course that was highly recommended by a tavern we had visited the prior day. Busy day with a full parking lot, we were expecting a long day with some occasional waiting. Staff was managing a busy phone ringing every other minute and also taking care of some folks checking in. After witnessing all of this, we hoped the experience on the course would match the demand by eveyone else to get out and play. From the moment we stepped on the first tee to the second we putted out on 18, we had decided this was a course to add to part of our weekend musky fishing each September. Tees, fairways, greens and bunkers were all in superb condition and a couple locals at the halfway food shack had explained that was the norm day in and day out. For anyone like my buddies and I trying to find a relaxing weekend up in God's Country fishing and golfing, I'd plant my roots in St. Germain!
Rain out Problem
I was rained out on the third hole and was given a rain check. I returned the next day and I had a problem with the lady at the desk. First she wanted to charge me $35 extra for the 2 holes I played the day before. Then she wanted to charge me the course full price not the golfnow price I got on line. I tried to explain the reason I play golf is to relax not to be hassled and if it wasn't for golfnow she would have had a NO money from my wife and I. Fortunately, the starter sent me on my way and promised me I wouldn't see her again. I paid nothing extra but the experience was aggravating and it took me and my wife a few holes to get over.
LOVE IT!
My family of three played this course again this past weekend. The conditions of the course are fantastic, the pace of play on spot, and the staff members were ALL extremely welcoming. The BEST Northwood's course in the Midwest!
Slow Play excruciating
We started playing on a beautiful day. The starter told us that there were two foursomes in front of us that might be slower but they were only playing 9 holes and one group that only played once a year. We thought no big deal. The foursome in front of us played through the once a year players. They, however, did not let us play through and we were a twosome. They had 6 golf carts with four people playing. Not sure where the ranger was but he did not do his job. Bonnie, the beverage cart attendant tried to help. She reported the slow play but it didn't help. The slow play absolutely ruined what should have been a beautiful day of golf in the north woods. We tried to get a refund for the back nine but they would only give us a rain check which we could not use. We will not be back.
Awesome place
Played as a 3 some. Pace of play was fast. Course in great condition. Staff was over the top friendly. Can be a very tight and challenging course. Do not need a driver to score well. Will be playing again.
A must play!
$17 VERY well spent. The course is rolling with nearly all fairways tree lined. Greens, fairways, roughs and bunkers were in excellent shape. The staff seems to treat GolfNow users as second tier guests to their course. On my first trip, the employee told me all times for 3:21 were taken. GolfNow had a listing for 1-4 players. He told me he could get me ion for $42 and I passed. While using the shag range the 3:21 group only had 3 players....Hmmmmm My 2nd trip, they neglected to pair me with a twosome, but instead made me play behind them, as a single. The young dude in the shop was great, but the two older fellas were a bit indifferent and need to improve their people skills. Overall GREAT golfing experience with an average at best staff!
Hit Them Straight!
This is a tight course that is not forgiving if you miss the short grass. There are reasonable fairways and intermediate rough areas, but then your ball will find thick grass and brush in many places. There are some areas that are cleared out enough to find your ball and play on, but in many places, you will be out of luck. It is not a super long course, so be a little more conservative off the tee, and try to keep your ball in play. There are some fairway bunkers, but quite a few holes do not have any. It is a challenging course with beautiful scenery and lots of wildlife. When we played we saw many deer, including a 6-pt buck that came up to about 10-feet from us, and a pair of gobbler turkeys. The greens were quite fast, and the pins were in difficult positions. With quite a bit of slope on the greens, putting here is quite challenging.
Favorite course
This is my favorite course in the north woods. I play it every time I come up north. Highly recommend playing this course.
