Awesome place to golf in the northwoods.
My son and I golfed 36 holes. The course was perfect as was the weather. The staff is so nice and they keep the course in wonderful shape. A hidden gem.
One of my favorites
Great course. Love the layout, trees and views. I have been playing here a few times per year for over 10 years now. Prices seem to have gone up quite a bit over the last few years so we will likely play one less round this year and try Northwood Golf in Rhinelander. Even with the higher prices, I’d say it’s worth it to come to St Germain.
Great conditions
One of the better public courses our group has played this season. Conditioning was superb, course was very busy on the Friday we played as the weather was pretty awesome. This was the last leg of a long golf weekend for us starting in Madison, Stevens Point and the Northwoods. Clean facilities and good service is money well spent these days. In a growing age of golf where older generations are penny pinchers, this course is money well spent (Milwaukee/Appleton/Madison area with this course would charge well over $100) See you next year!
Great spot for fall golf
After a busy summer this course is still in fantastic shape . Great spot for fall golf with the colors starting to turn .
Becoming fond of this area
We experienced a great day of golf within our foursome. By the 3rd hole we had already seen a dozen turkeys, some deer, and a couple bald eagles hovering around. For people looking for the forest setting to escape suburbia, this would be it. I first played this course in 2014 and we have since been back in 2016 through now. The continued improvements we have seen have made this one of our favorite stops in the Northwoods. The subtle details with new fencing, rock, planting grass, landscaping and a very consistent appearance of each golf hole is encouraging where this place is headed. The course is challenging with tight tree lined areas near the tee boxes, but the greens are receptive and roll very nice. For the three weeks total we spend in Vilas County, there are times we just want to practice. They have constructed a pitching area with a bunker and green near their halfway snack house. It is a nice location if you want to avoid the general flow of other golfers warming up at the driving range. We hope to become summer residents of this area in the coming years and would love to join this club. Well done and we are looking forward to one more round in September!
My wife and I played on a beautiful Friday morning and were paired with a great couple-very nice and pretty good golfers too. The course was in great shape and the greens were pretty quick. Pace of play was very good-we never waited on any hole. A storm came up with lightning that drove everyone off the course just as we teed off on the last hole but it was an enjoyable day anyway. We've played here many times in the last ten years. Highly recommend it!!

Disclaimer: In the age of writing a review and people basing whether or not they'll visit somewhere based on what other people are saying, I am not that person. I will give a golf course a chance wherever/whenever I may be traveling. This instance was a spur the moment business trip to Eagle River for a client review. I was paired with some folks from Southern WI and it turned out to be a pleasurable Saturday. The golf course was jam packed with vacation seekers. Play was slow at times, but as a realist, that is public golf on the weekend in a vacation destination. All staff present was helpful and seemed to be doing anything they could to ensure everyone was having a good experience. This course is surrounded by pretty much remote wilderness and it still embodies a well maintained/laid out stretch of golf holes. The simplistic and uniform conditions are very refreshing for a "municipal" golf course. Various improvements were in progress on several holes as we played our round. Greens were at a pace that was just right for the clientele playing, bunkers appeared to be fair and consistent, fairways were well defined and the rough was easy to navigate out of. Don't be fooled by the "municipal" tag associated with St. Germain Golf Club. This venue is great value at just under $70 and I will plan another visit if I find myself in Vilas County again. Cheers!
Northwoods golf experience
Great golfing experience if you hit the ball straight. There is no play from adjacent fairways because there aren't any! LOL The best part is how the course blends in with the natural surroundings and amazing quiet of the northwoods.
Had not been back in 12 years, wow!
As a former resident of St. Germain, I have been privileged to see this course mature since it opened. A career change had taken me out of the region until last Thursday. It had been 12 years since I last played this course and from the moment you walk from the parking lot to the practice area, the improvements are very evident. One of the employees mentioned the initial golf course of 9 holes has turned 25 years old this year (I’m started to feel old for a moment). The most refreshing part of the day for my family was fresh faces all around with a since of urgency and politeness that is not always found in Northern WI. The course played very well and the attention to detail over all 18 holes was obvious for someone who plays plenty of public golf in the Midwest. Please keep up the great work and thank you for refreshing a find memory early in my golfing career! The town certainly has a very special place to enjoy a day of golf.
Inviting forested property
We had a great afternoon at St. Germain. Our original plans were wiped out Sunday by heavy rain and wind. We decided to try Tuesday as that fit into our summer vacation schedule. Course drained exceptionally well for having such a wet weekend. Staff was polite and helpful. Sand traps were being repaired from the wet weather as we played through. Very good conditions for a city owned course and is a few notches above our local tracks in Milwaukee County. An after round dinner in the clubhouse would have been the icing on the cake, but it was closed? We will see you again in September!
Conditions not the best
The course was not is very good shape. Bunkers really bad. A lot of fairways had many bare spots or lack of much grass.
Was disappointed in the condition of the course. Not worth 60 some dollars
no rain check
I prepaid for 2 people on the internet. It was heavy rain and lightening at our tee time. They refused to give a rain check. I had to call the internet company two days latter and they did refund but it bothered me for two days. IMHO, if they don't want to give full service on all reservations then they should not use discount internet services.
