Prairie Landing

About
Prairie Landing Golf Club has received acclaim ever since first opening in 1995, including a four-and-a-half-star rating from Golf Digest. This West Chicago course will make you feel as though you've been transported to a seaside links course in Ireland. The prairie-style layout closely follows the tradition of classic links golf courses. Robert Trent Jones II designed the course, fully utilizing the rolling terrain. He incorporated large, undulating greens and rolling bent grass fairways. Vast swaths of native grasses stretch along the fairways and strategically placed bunkers frame the greens. There is also contoured mounding to contend with. The golf course finishes with a memorable par 5 that features fairway bunkers on the left followed by a carry over a lake to a well protected, high bowled green. Prairie Landing also boasts a practice facility that includes a driving range with target greens, four practice holes, and a nine-hole chipping and short-game area.

Public golf with private course feel
I really enjoyed our round at Prairie Landing, despite my worst score in a decade. It is a tough track and a thinkers course. As an older guy I just need to stop thinking I can hit it as far as I used to!
Typically I do not like government entity golf courses. This one is owned by a municipal airport authority and there is a constant stream of airplanes taking off and landing right over your head. I feel that taxpayers should not be subsidizing golf, but this is a good use of open space that is required for an airport, and if the course operation expenses, including the clubhouse bar/restaurant, are covered by golfers, it’s a win win. Usually, this is not the case. Not sure of the financials but typically places like Cantigny, Mistwood, Saint Andrews etc. I support as there are Capitalists behind the course and they deserve consumer support.
The greens were quite slow but to be expected with heavy play, and the yardage from the blacks was reasonable yet challenging. Tips would be TOUGH and the high school team that played behind us noted the challenge.
I will play it again soon as I feel I can do better with a more cerebral and more risk averse approach. #KeepItUp !
Wow
The best part about this course is how good I looked playing on it. Wow. I’m sexy.
top tier public course in chicago area
great course, great practice facility, great clubhouse / bar area. this is one of the best open-to-the-public options around. it's on par with, or better than many of the private options.
Always perfect
It’s Mud August, mist courses are showing their season of play, yet Prairie Landings is a step above
Doing what it takes to take care of its course
I rate this as an awesome public course and is better than a lot of private courses. The greens held perfectly to good shots, the pace was very fast
Anyone will enjoy this track immensely
great course
great day only negative was why were the carts only allowed on average 6o years from greens. didnt make sense.
great staff
Prairie Landing was excellent, as always.
The course in excellent condition, and even held up after 20 minutes of drenching rain.
Fantastic course and great facility!
Great course!
A little slow at times, but it was still a great experience.
Amazing beautiful track, power trip rude clown show rangers
The course was in immaculate condition. The rangers ruined our entire round. So much so that after I questioned his take on us being "extraordinarily off pace" with the twosome directly in front of us, he refused to acknowledge me, I told him we waited 7 minutes at the box for the green to clear, he then decided to chime in, you should do less talking and more golfing. Then he proceeded to park in the middle of the fairway and trail us the entire round. We notified the cart girls to tell management, they informed us that they did, they were very cordial. This ranger is a total clown, and I will not return and will give recommendations for others to do the same. Pretty unfortunate for the best links track in Chicagoland hands down.
Address staff attitude
While the course was beautiful and fun to play the course staff (all around) could use a little work with attitude, friendliness, etc. Had a horrible experience with the starters as well as the pro shop who decided it was within reason to YELL at us for laughing while in the pro shop. If you can’t handle processing a transaction with minimal noise in the background then find a different position. The course staff acts very pompous and arrogant - almost as if they are better than everyone. Work on that!
Challenging course
The course is nice but for the money I was expecting better greens and course
Great course, hidden gem
Course is very nice, fun and challenging layout. Bit pricey compared to nearby options. Pace of play was average. Pro shop is top notch, amenities are fantastic.
Rangers were extraordinarily rude to us as well.
