Glenn Annie Shines Again
I LIVE on Soule Park Golf Course, Ojai-obviously my favorite, but tournaments have stymied our group. We returned to Glenn Annie twice this month, and enjoyed each day tremendously. Beautiful facility, course, views, weather. Friendly staff. Played at noon and finished lovely, casual round with hours to spare. True greens. Soule tends to be "grip and rip:" long, wide, with forgiveness. GA has lots of vertical (I walk usually and wouldn't here) and many unique, frankly intellectual holes (one partner suggests "gimmicky"): rewarding distance and directional control over linear prowess, with score-busting deep kimchee for an errant thought, or shot. Again, the bunkers could be better (sand), but I love the rest of the course.
Perfect day
Played Glenn Annie a few months ago to punched greens and and truly overwhelming mud hen poop smearing 18th green. Yesterday was MUCH IMPROVED-a perfect day with friends. The views of the unspoiled hillsides, and especially the coast from GA GC never cease to inspire (all of our players). Check-in was super-friendly and efficient. Course in great condition. Wickedly fun, thought-requiring layout puts a premium on target-golf, aim & proper distance, not just "hit it as hard as you can." Greens rolling true. Small gaggle of geese hanging around picturesque club house pond, but mud hens (RIP) not in sight. (replacing dirt with white sand in bunkers would make GA a "10."
Slowest experience ever. 3 hours a side. Isn't worth the time.
Always a great time.
Beautiful, challenging course and great club house.
Thoughtful Course
This corse is a lot of fun with 1900 feet of elevation changes it takes both some distance and precision to hit the shots that will keep you in regulation.
The greens run true and the cups feel like they are oversized. Nonetheless, this is a thinking mans corse not a bombers course.
6 hour round
The course was great but the pace was atrocious and didn’t see a marshal the entire round.
3-4 groups piled up at each tee box.
Horrible experience.
Overpriced
Fun course but the fares are unreasonably priced. It would be so cool if they made playing here more affordable to locals.
Super slow, 10 holes in 4 hours
Super slow but didn’t know there was a league in front of us, probably should have started on the back nine but didn’t know we should ask until too late.
Poorly Managed & Maintained
My wife and I played here for the first time and we were greatly disappointed. This course is pretending to be something they simply are not. Perhaps when it first opened it was a nice open to public course; but those days are long gone. The PROS: the staff there is kind and welcoming, but that’s it. The CONS: the gentleman at the pro shop who checked us in was unaware of what the pace of play was and apparently whether or not we had to pay for balls to warm up at the driving range…he told us where to go but failed to sell us any balls. Once we arrived at the range master, we were rushed onto the tee; despite being 30 MINUTES EARLY. We stated that we were early and in need of a warm and he told us to put around or hit a couple balls on the range—again failing to state that we needed to buy them at the pro shop where we had just come from. The whole situation was a mess to begin with. The course itself is challenging in that it is multilevel, making distances a little more deceiving. This was definitely welcomed and enjoyed. However, the tee boxes were riddled with divots, the fairways were brown and yellow and frankly as hard as a rock, we would have been better off hitting off the cart paths. Remember how we were rushed to tee off? Well apparently so was everyone else because on many occasions we were 1 of 3 groups playing the same hole getting played up on frequently, despite being below the expected pace of play time and being held up by another group. All in all, the staff needs to do a better job of managing the crowd, the course, and encourage the people who play here need to learn proper golf etiquette. Save yourself the time and money and go play Ojai Valley Inn, Soule Park, Olivas Links, or even San Buena Ventura (they are a million times better)
diverse in it's layout and superb scenery
Had a great time playing today with my son... Also teamed up with a couple of younger golfers who were very respectful and amicable!
