Great Course

Cool calm dry conditions.

Some holes not clear where next tee box was.
Had to use mats on fairways which we didn’t know about until we arrived.
And a couple of temporary greens.
Overall a good experience

Very nice links course

This was our second round in Northern Ireland and didn’t really have a lot to compare it to, but we were very happy with the course conditions and friendliness of the staff. The weather was really nice that day which made an enjoyable round as well. Maybe the best part of the day was a wonderful dinner in their restaurant after our round was over.

As scenic as it was demanding

Played Castlerock during Open week in the late afternoon and got the round in before just dark. The last four holes are an unbelievable setting to watch the sun set. The course is quite challenging off the tee. Each hole gives you one side where you can miss and one side where you can't; it's just not clear which side is which until you reach your tee shot, so it requires a little local knowledge or at least a second play. It's a fabulous track and I'd make a point to play it on any North Irish boondoggle. It will not disappoint.

Great course, but not cheap

Castlerock ist a fine links course with nice views, it was I very good condition, still I think even the hotdeal (66£ instead of a 100 £) is just a bit too much.

Beautiful natural course. Very high standard of green keeping and interesting layout. Bit tough in places, especially if wayward

Winter conditions

Great golf course and food. Only issue was when we arrived we were given mats to hit off on the fairways. Not a fault of the GC but it would be great if golfnow could include this info in their booking system and include things like temporary greens in use so that you are aware and could filter these into searches.

Stunning

Lovely course. Big long track. Requires accuracy from tee to green. Played it once about 15 years ago. Won't leave it so long next time!

Mussenden is a nice track

Nice track for the money. Conditions were great. Played with two younger members who were a pleasure. The nine hole Dunn course has some great views of the water, and some dramatic hills, but a bit short on some of the 9 holes. Worth playing 9 as a warm up to the big course.

A solid links near Portrush and Portstewart in Northern Ireland

The River Bann - the longest river in Northern Ireland - isolates Castlerock from its more famous links neighbors along the Causeway coast of Northern Ireland: The 54-hole Portstewart Golf Club and 36-hole Royal Portrush Golf Club.
Castlerock's Mussenden Links lacks the dunes of Portstewart. They're better utilized on the club's spectacular Bann course, which maybe the best nine-hole course I've ever seen.
Mussenden Links, a par 73 dating to 1901, winds outside the perimeter of the dunes, never getting too close to the river or sea, but still offering glimpses of both. The fun comes from a collection of unique holes - the uphill, dogleg second; the par-3 fourth between the railway line and a burn; the burn-crossing at the sixth and the signature 'Quarry' par 3 in the dunes at no. 9. A blind tee shot over a ridge on the par-5 15th hole sets up a strong finish. The 357-yard final hole plays much longer with the approach to an elevated green. It's not necessarily a bucket-list links compared to its more famous neighbors, although it's still worthy of a visit.
