Heron Bay Golf & Country Club

Unfortunately the weather was not good. Misted all round. Rained heavily the night before. Cart path only. Really like the layout. Greens were in excellent condition.

Had to wait 45 minutes, past scheduled tee time for a golf cart...cause

The course was packed too capacity on a Tuesday, an absolutely beautifully clear November blue sky, 60 degree afternoon in Georgia.

When a cart finially arrived, I was pleasantly surprised to see, Heron Bay Golf Course has upgrade to a new tan colored golf carts with available USB ports.

Happy to see those bluish-green carts (which could be found at midnight) abandon on a fairway, stuck hidden behind a tree, or left on some cart path...broken down) have vanished!

After seeing course conditions extremely decline the past year under the ClubCorp Group (formerly named the Canongate Group)...

The Schwendinger Group, is bringing the "Members Only" course up to par with its Eagle's Brooke and Crystal Lake, sister courses, in Locust Grove and the city of Hampton, Georgia respectively.

The course is extensively well groomed, fairways cropped short and the greens are putting appreciably true, this exquisite November day.

There is great variety for all golfers...

Downhill, and half water surrounded, par 3's...Even, two holes, a par 4 and a par 5's green, overlooking the beautiful Cole Reservoir in Henry County.

My favorite is hole 16, which is surrounded on the front left by 5 or 7 sand traps...Aim to the right!

The normal tee rates here, run from $45.00 to $59.00!!!

I still can't believe GolfNow was able to put this excellent golf course on its roster...

Club Corp has been promoting several of its courses the past couple weeks. Heron Bay is one. Big signs everywhere within the HB clubhouse and on carts...Members Wanted. I just can't do it...invest time and money there. The greeting at Clubhouse was lukewarm. The course was in so-so shape. Fairways holding water. Greens had many unrepaired divots. Restuarant messed up my sandwich. Then...then there is the pace of play. What should take only 4 hours (4.5 tops) took us nearly 5.5 hours. No marshall to move play along. Got behind a three-some and they in the fairway talking like they are in a hotel lobby. Nope...can't do it....couldn't be a member there.

It seems very few players here fix ball marks. Disturbing quantity of dead spots from old pitch marks on otherwise pretty good greens. We even fixed quite a few fresh ball marks from the only group ahead of our 7:15 tee time. The course has apparently too many bunkers to maintain. Most need more or new sand and all need raked. Fairways good. Tees acceptable but many need to be re-leveled . Layout good. Course long, especially on the back 9. Overall not quite up to what I expect from a Cannongate owned facility.

I am not a member of Cannogate but I would recommend this course. Somewhat challenging with the bunker layout, course was in excellent condition, and you want to stay out of rough. Greens were in excellent condition as well.
