A little rough
If I lived adjacent to the golf course, I would return. However, I drove 45 miles to play this course, which explains why I will not return. The layout is worthy of better fairways. The course has a fun set-up with elevation, bunker, and distance challenges. The fairways were not great, though, so you were not consistently rewarded for executing a good golf shot.
Challenging
Like the lay out and that you need to think your way around the course. Some holes are easy, some are hard. Greens are much better.
Busy Monday
The course layout is great. It still needs some TLC in many areas. Pace of play was great on the first 7 holes before catching up to several foursomes who were not in any hurry throughout the remainder of 18 holes. Loved the GP bonus discount to plat this course!
Good Course
Course is in decent shape. Needs more grass in fairways and green were not cut. Not many ammenities other than the club house which has hot dogs and snacks. I would rate this course 6 out of 10.
This course has potential but....
This course has potential, but it doesn't appear to have received much upkeep this year. The greens were actually in pretty good shape visually, but they played very slow. The fairways need significant attention, with several areas showing weeds growing throughout the turf and other spots that could use improvement. On a positive note, the staff was very friendly and welcoming, especially the marshals, who did a great job and were a pleasure to interact with. Overall, the course wasn't in the condition I expected. I probably wouldn't choose to play here again on my own, though I wouldn't mind returning if invited by friends.
Has great potential
This was the first time playing this course. I am 2 1/2 hours away from this course. As soon as I pulled up, it was junkie looking a little bit ragged. After playing tee boxes most of them needed to be mowed or cleaned up lots of sand spots. Fairways OK they needed to be cut. Greens atrocious huge dirt spots on every single green. The greens need major help. While playing I noticed four maintenance workers just talking at the maintenance shop and not working. This course has great potential but needs a supervisor.
Always enjoy this course
Shoal Creek is one of my go-to courses, and it keeps getting better. On beautiful days it can get crowded, but the layout is fun, playable, and worth it every time. It’s clear the course is receiving ongoing investment—conditions continue to improve, and the new GPS-equipped carts along with clubhouse upgrades are great additions.
There are still a few cart path areas on the first holes of the back nine that could use some attention, but overall it doesn’t take away from the experience. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, and the staff consistently does a great job. All in all, a wonderful place to play—really appreciate the effort the team is putting in here.
Disappointed
I have played this track several times but Sunday was shocking it looked like they forgot about mowing and cutting. Greens were aerated but no one told us anything until we got to first hole.
Potential
One of the best layouts in Atlanta. Greens and back tees are in good shape. Just so much residual tornado mess around the course makes it less attractive. I really hope the owners clean things up. It's such a beautifully designed course and fun to play.
First time
Golf staff was awesome! Practice facility very nice and course in good condition. Greens were very shot receptive and rolled true.
Shoal Creek coming along. In time will improve.
After a crippling storm, the course is coming along. Time and effort will determine the outcome. Nice people.
Fun and challenging course.
For this time of year and being in a drought the course was in good condition. I played from the white tees and it was plenty challenging. I enjoyed it and will return often.
Mr D
Course was okay, some spots in fairway and cart paths need repair.
Nice place
My experience was good, as previously mentioned, some of the tee boxes were very rough and they should make the cart paths closer to the tee boxes because people obviousl have made their own paths thru the years. Greens were good but not as fast as other reviewers have said. Overall I had a good time and would try it again.
Good course to play
Super friendly staff. Would have appreciated a starter, as there was a group that claimed to be ahead of us, just three minutes before we were about to tee off. We ended up skipping the second hole, even though they did say we could play through. Course isn’t in great shape but good enough for a fun day of playing. Tee boxes were challenging to get your tees in, with them being dried out. Overall a good course… with more work and rain coming, it will be great in a few more months, I’m sure.
Due to drought
Because of the recent lack of rain, the greens were fast and unforgiving. However, for the same reason the fairways were hard therefore the aftermath of tee shots were tremendous. Twenty to thirty yards after the ball touched down. Which gives a false sense of length on drives.
