Majestic Oaks at Lake Lawn Resort
About
Lake Lawn Resort spans across two miles of shoreline along Delavan Lake. The resort was founded in 1878, making it one of Wisconsin's oldest leisure destinations. Its proximity to both Chicago and Milwaukee has made it very popular. The championship golf course was not added until 1921, but it is still one of the area's oldest. It has a traditional layout that was revamped in 1990 but the original character was carefully preserved. The course is known for the stately oaks that are abundant throughout the course. The mature trees frame the holes and demand accuracy as well as creative shot-making. There are also deep sand bunkers strategically placed along Lake Lawn Resort's greensides. The greens themselves are quite tricky and varied too. Some have subtle but tough undulations while others are multi-tiered.

Tricky greens.
Coarse is always in great shape. What makes this track challenging are the undulating greens. Never a flat putt. lots of curves, valleys and difficult pin placements. Staff are always friendly, courteous and helpful. Beautiful old design with classic holes. If you are in the lake Delevan area this is a must play. Cheers.
nice course Extremely slow play
Nice course but it took 5;40 minutes to play 18 holes. they had groups of 8 , 6 and 5 on the course, which to me is not acceptable at any time. the group of 8 was the major issue most of the day and they did not try to fix it even though numerous groups in front of us and behind us complained. the group of 8 was on 4 when we were on 2 and that was the issue all day
Challenging course to tackle
Well conditioned. Wonderful greens.
Challenging course the has you battle not only the layout but winds that keeps you making decisions.
Go enjoy majestic oaks
Not difficult, but a little tight
You can tell by the name of the course that there are a lot of trees. They come into play every hole, sometimes even if you're in the fairway. There are only 3 water hazards on the whole course: a tough pond next to a par 3 green, one in front of a par 4 tee box, and the shoreline of Delavan Lake goes the length of a par 5 on the back 9.
The holes are often very close together so you will see people playing from the wrong fairway a few times.
Other than the lake and the other two water hazards, there aren't a lot of places to lose your ball here except if you manage to hit your ball over the fence on one of the 5 holes that go along the edge of the property. Lake Lawn really needs to put up tall netting to prevent these errant balls from hitting a car on the highway because I've seen it happen several times.
There are more than plenty of bunkers on this course. There is only one hole on the entire course that doesn't have a greenside trap. The sand is in decent condition but often it is unraked, which in my opinion is a reflection of the type of golfer that frequents this resort (I'll just say there were 10:1 Illinois license plates vs Wisconsin plates in the parking lot).
Although you may not lose many balls here, they will possibly get scuffed up by the ever-present blacktop cart path that runs along the right edge of the fairway on most holes. Your slightly right of the fairway drive will bounce off the path into inevitable tree or sand trouble.
The greens are not in very good condition. Some greens have no grass on top of the higher humps, possibly shaved too low by the mower. Most greens are pocked with unrepaired divots, going back to the inconsiderate golfers that often stay at the resort. Half of the greens have a large hill or hump separating the front from the back, adding difficulty to putting.
There is a small bar in the clubhouse and an adjoining (small) banquet room. The staff is very friendly, but good luck seeing a drink cart after 5:00PM. There is a driving range and you can get a bag of 50 balls for a reasonable $7 but you have to drive almost a mile from the clubhouse to get to it.
The resort has a restaurant but I would not recommend it. There are several better and cheaper restaurants within a mile of the resort.
Overall I like the course but not the people that often play there. I usually refuse to play there on weekends and I'd never pay the full rate as it's wildly overpriced. Look for online deals or play after 4:00 for better rates.
Last time
Golf course was amazing... Golfnow continues to disappoint. Membership is a one way business in favor of golfnow. I am done with them and I call this my last time.
Resort Course
As a Resort course they can get play by people who aren’t golfers and can abuse the course, but it appears the staff does a wonderful job of overcoming that abuse and keeps it in good shape .
Over charged
I booked on line through Lake Lawn Website. When we got there we were charged $34/each. My receipt via email said we owed $116 at course. I had already paid the on line booking fee so my “hot deal” cost me $40 instead of $30. I have no complaints on the course itself as it was in great shape.
Compared to othe courses in area a little pricy
Old course with old course layout. Greens are good but course is not overly challenging.
Great course for your money
We play here every time we are in this area. Fair but also challenging. The staff is consistently courteous and professional. And the course is always in great shape. Keep up the good work!
Great time for golfing
We golfed in the later afternoon on a Sunday and the course was pretty open. No pressure to hurry. Relaxing Beautiful day!
Okay
Greens in places we brown and bare. Some dumb holes with pointless annoying bunkers and mini golf like slopes on greens. Did have nice views and decent fairways and teeboxes.
Nice course on Delavan Lake
This was once a very expensive and exclusive golf resort 10 or so years ago, but the resort went bankrupt. It was purchased by an investor and was brought back to being the nicest course in Delavan (sorry, Delbrook). The course features more than plenty of trees, more sand traps than I usually see on other courses, and a par 5 that curves along the lake’s shoreline. Although that sounds tough, the course is rather wide open; not a lot of places to go out of bounds unless you hit your ball over the fence onto Hwy 50 (which I’ve done more times than I’d like to admit). You might often see someone playing their ball from the wrong fairway (so heads up). The fairways are in nice shape, but often the rough can be difficult to play from, either long grass on the 1st cut of rough or dry areas where you wouldn’t dare use a wedge for fear of scalding the ball over the green into the inevitable trap on the other side. The greens aren’t in great shape; I’ve been playing this course at least once a week for the last several years and some of the greens have the same bad spots as they’ve had years ago. I’ve also found that, perhaps due to the caliber of players that stay in the resort, I often see greens pocked with many unrepaired divots as well as unraked bunkers, far more often than other budget courses. On weekdays the beverage cart is never out after 5:00PM, even on busy or hot days, although they finally have Spotted Cow in cans (as well as on tap in the clubhouse). When the cart is out, the frequency is very good. The bar in the clubhouse is pathetically small, but there is a separate banquet room if you wanted to stay for a few drinks after your round. They do have one of the cheapest driving ranges in the area, however you have to buy your balls from the clubhouse and literally drive a mile to get to it.
All that said, I like the course well enough. Partly because I play league there and partly because it’s the closest golf course to my house. I wouldn’t pay full price to play there (runs around $50 or more on weekends), but the twilight pass is very reasonable at $400, and otherwise you can often find good deals to play there online.
You may not lose many balls there, but they will likely get scuffed up by the blacktop cart path that runs along the right edge of almost every fairway.
Pace of play is good on weekdays but often horrendous on Fridays and Saturdays, as the starter sometimes allows groups of more than 4. Because of this you may see some golfers playing holes out of order.
This is y second time playing this curse,
I lovet good conditions and very frenli people!
Finally played
Due to weather we had to reschedule and Golf Now and Magestic helped us with that. Being a 2some it was slow and men in front of us didn't have us play they so we skipped a par 3 and went on ahead as there was no one ahead of them. Otherwise it was a great day and beautiful course..... thanks!!
nice course
Enjoy playing this course and the head to the bar area near lake for drink and food, gives us the feel that we are away for a golf weekend!
