Cove Cay Golf Club is located along the shores of Tampa Bay, offering scenic views and abundant wildlife. Water is a prominent feature on the golf course, coming into play on 12 holes. The course is tight with narrow, tree-lined fairways and several tricky dogleg holes. In addition to all of the water hazards, there are also deep bunkers lining the greensides. At 6,000 yards, it is not a long course by any means but what it lacks in length it makes up for in shot-making challenges. Thanks to its length though, it can usually be played in under four hours. The layout features a diverse set of hazards that will require the use of every club in your bag. Cove Cay Golf Club's signature hole is the par-5 17th. This dramatic hole runs alongside the bay, making accuracy a necessity in order to reach the small peninsula green.

Short but fun.

Terrific layout. Greens traps in good condition. All other conditions reasonable. Was the 1st one out so I set the pace.

Not a fancy service oriented course. Several staff friendly enough. One dude - I think the owner was strikingly rude.

course needs help

There were at least 20 holes recovering in each green. There is no reason for that and in Florida. Put 3 in the front, 3 mid and 3 back and alternate… greens and tee boxes are in terrible shape for $65. Much nicer courses in the Tampa Bay Area for half the price!

Easy Course

Course has a very simple design. Every par 3, par 4, par 5 is the same. Very limited as far as club selections. 4/5 iron off every tee. Par 3s are short and has 4 on the back 9. Fairways are well maintained as are the greens. The bunkers are hard mud making for rake/place rules but not a bad course all in all. Just very easy.

Good course with all types of shots

Great course where it will test all aspects of your game. Layout is nice, staff is very friendly and course is in good condition. Greens are soft, quick and roll true. Will play again and will become a member soon. This is a semi private course but open to the public.

Good course for the $$

Course was in good shape, and a good value for the $$ in the area. Little short for bigger hitters even from the tips. But good for average golfers, kids, or short hitters. Had a tee time for 2 just before day break to be 1st off the tee, but when showed up was told to go get in line as it was already busy.

Poor Management

The starter let me go out as a single. Owner, Bill Shriver came to the guys I had caught up with and told them he needed my cart, without talking to me, he starts removing my personal items and putting them in another cart. I would have rather walked the back 9 with a pull cart.. The guy he put me with, did not want me in his cart and made for an uncomfortable back 9. I

had played two days earlier with another single in separate carts, and there were no issues from anyone.

I spoke with Co-owner Pam Shriver afterwards, expressing my concerns. No issues, she she’s my point of view and apologizes. Everything is good until Bill Shriver walks up and tells me I am wrong and that Pam was wrong to apologize. I go out to my vehicle and Bill starts yelling and cussing at me to get off his F$&#% property. I said nothing more to him. This golf course community and I was seriously considering purchasing a condo there, I like the course.

After talking to my friends which live in this golf community condo association. They said he acts like this regularly, throwing temper tantrums and threatening anyone who has an opposing view to him. Co-owner Pam Shriver was fantastic, she listened, understood and apologized, exactly what one would expect from someone with good customer service. But Bill Shriver is unstable and irrational, take your chances playing this course and experiencing his unprofessional behavior outbursts.

Brutal conditions

Not worth the money. Views are ok on the back with decent layout at best. I’d start somewhere else

Cove Cay: Nice challenge

Nice setup with doglegs and contours.

Somewhat smaller greens, so distance control quite important.

Greens at a decent speed. Good elevation changes increasing difficulty for shorter holes.

Overall a fun but reasonably challenging experience

Beautiful scenic difficult

Beautiful Florida back drop. Some very picturesque holes, especially on the back 9. Has a driving rang small but they have one. Inside a gated community. Out of town’ers will struggle to get a T-time before 10am. Hole placement on the day that I went was difficult which made for a challenging round. Narrow fairways lead to small greens. If your good with short irons you’ll love there pair threes. The greens were like putting on a ballroom floor, which isn’t bad but good to know. Fairways need water. Cart girl was great! I had a blast, thanks for having me.

Wow! Great detail about your experience and I laughed out loud over the "ballroom floor" reference when mentioning our greens. We like them fast!

1st visit to Cove Cay

I was not impressed with conditions of the greens, total dead spots in a hand full of the them. Bunkers were playable, which is always a good thing. A very good front 9, but short short back 9.

Breezy by the Bay

I used to play here a lot, but this was the 1st time in many years. The course was in good shape, but the greens were slow; however, it worked well as the wind was howling and probably would have moved the ball.

It's a good track, and I'll play her again.

Keep it in the short grass!

Tim
