The Pebble Beach of Ireland. Outstanding links course and un believably inexpensive.
Hidden Gem!
I had read good things about the course then the locals I spoke to raved about it. It totally lived up to the hype!! If you need manicured tee boxes, fairways, etc. Cruitt is not for you. If you want a traditional links course with amazing views, look up Cruitt when you're in County Donegal, you won't be disappointed!
Cruit island golf course
Fantastic wee course really enjoyed it.views are outstanding well worth the 2 and half hour drive.will be back
Lovely day on Cruit island golf course
I was staying on Cruit Island with my family and discovered there was a very interesting looking 9 hole course at the top of the island and so took a half set of clubs to hopefully sneak in 9 holes one morning, so glad I did.
I looked at the weather and picked a morning that looked the calmest wind wise (and dryest ideally ). Fran at the clubhouse was very welcoming and looked to hook me up with a three ball teeing off before me which was thoughtful. I was happy to just enjoy the sunny morning and have an easy 9 holes practicing shots enjoying views, before getting back to head out for next Donegal family exploring day.
There are many blind shots so following the three ball was very useful and their pace was ideal for me to take my time and enjoy my shots ( including my spare mulligan when needed!)
All the 9 holes are so different and although appear short ( 330yds average par 4's) they all have their various characters waiting to catch you out ( some holes more suprising than others on first play) and so are all hard to par or indeed birdie etc even with a calm day - a normal windy day and good luck to you and your game!
The greens are great and true which is always important and match the holes well with the tougher holes having a less challenging green and the 'seemingly' easier holes introducing themselves on the green!
Playing the course blind I hit numerous tee shots that released a shudder of doom based on numerous experiences playing around the many East Lothian links courses. Then on coming over the rise discover that the creators of the course were aware of this possibility and although not great, you first of all find your ball and you also still have half a chance, rather than no chance. This i feel sums up the course for me - it is a clever course that is tough but fair and situated in the best setting I have ever played.
A Little Gem!
Although it's a much shorter course, in many ways Cruit Island reminds me a lot of my first golf course played, Dooks in Kerry. Undulating fairways, small greens, lots of blind shots and scenery from heaven to distract you. Don't go out expecting to shoot a score, especially on a first visit. A deep breath, take it all in, relax and have fun. Enjoy! :)
Great golf course
Great golf course. Magnificent views. Challenging course. signage could be improved. Some blind holes where bells would be helpful.
Incredible
Honestly, words cannot describe this place. If I believed in God, I would think this was his magnum opus. Paradise.
A little Gem
We had a beautiful day, very windy which added to the course. Greens true and fast. Overall really enjoyed the round.
9 holes in heaven
probabaly the best 9 hole course top be found anywhere?......please tell me one that is better?!
A gem
A very special little course. Staff and members friendly and welcoming. Views are stunning. Do yourself a favour and book a round now.
Experience
Tricky but playable 9 hole links set in stunning landscape and scenery. Remote location but well worth the journey. Very enjoyable, the sunshine was a nice bonus!
Great course.
Great experience. Similar to a links course with lots of wind but also many blind shots. It is only a nine hole course.
