Ron Jaworski's RiverWinds Golf & Tennis Club
About
Ron Jaworski’s Riverwinds Golf & Tennis Club is situated along a scenic stretch of grassland between the banks of the Woodbury Creek and the deep harbor marina on the Delaware River. Its location gives it the feel of traditional seaside links courses found in Scotland and Ireland, which is further enforced by the sod-wall bunkers that lurk near the greens. The layout features plenty of water and incorporates the surrounding wetlands as well. One unique feature of the golf course is that the routing winds across a mile-long twisting burn, creating a visually interesting setting. Riverwinds begins with a gentle, mostly flat front nine but the mounding becomes more aggressive as you move onto the back. All of the holes face a different direction, which means you’ll most likely be using all the clubs in your bag to tackle the crosswinds and rugged terrain.

Booking was too easy!
Booking and paying on-line was too easy! The course can be challenging with the wind. Had a lot of run and #17 is, "Always a Pleasure". Can't wait to play again.
A day at river winds
Course was in great shape tee box to green no food on course and no club house at turn
SLOW
Play was slow waited EVERY SHOT NO Marshal. Makes for an unpleasant day and I happened to play well so I'm not blaming a poor round on slow play But it was not a fun time. Will not play again!!!
One hole and out
Booked a tee time as a single. Got to the course and was told singles had to be paired with a threesome - even though the course was practically deserted. So I had to wait 15 minutes until a threesome showed up. They were 3 beginners, hit it all over the place, and the lowest score among the 3 on the first hole was a 10. Took 30 minutes to play one hole. I couldn't take it, left after ONE HOLE. $40 down the drain.
Great Day
Course was good shape. We played as a twosome and played the round in 3 hours. Pace of play was perfect. The staff was great and friendly.
Price was right for a reason
Jaws never offers much of a discount, if any. So, when I saw River Winds for $34.50 weekend rate, I jumped on it. Had a great round because it wasn't crowded - I suspect because of the Eagles' home opener. Would have given 5 stars, but the greens were aerated. It would be nice for Golfnow to post some sort of prominent notice, flag or badge when a course has recently been aerated. Would recommend to play once because it is a fun layout.
Post Labor Day River Winds
All things considered, the price doesn't justify the course. I have played other courses that were priced as much as this one and the conditions were better. I would have expected this rate prior to Labor Day. Conditions of the grounds were slightly above average. The fairways shows some wear and the greens hadn't grown in since the aeration. I'd recommend this course during the season but unless there's a coupon involved, the price is about $15 too much.
overall ok except for aeration
Usually when a course does aeration they have it posted on their website or tell you when making the reservation. Not the case here. They aerated on Tuesday (we played Saturday) and while they use the small hole aeration system, there was no mention, even when we checked in, and they were charging full rates. Fairways and tee boxes were okay but greens were not. Not cool. Otherwise course was in good shape and we played in 4:10.
Riverwinds
Nice course structure. jaws has cut down on the rough which slows play. Greens were just plugged, showing good care of the course. The tees could use some attention. Course was soft when I played, almost no roll.
Great views . A bit expensive, by 5-10.
Could really use a club house.
Nice Course Decent Shape. Needs a Range!!
A Good solid course. Some challenging holes and course plays a bit tougher when the wind picks up. Greens were just punched but not bad considering. Would love to play it again when they are running right. I do not understand the amount of courses that do not have driving ranges to warm up. How can you play this game decently without warming up. So much extra land there at that facility......just don't get it. But decent course....will play again.
Disappointing
Was not informed that the greens had been airrated the day before we played. Played the front nine in 2 hours but took over 3.5 hours to play the back. There were a couple of very slow twosomes in front of our threesome and there were no rangers on the course to monitor the pace of play and address the slow play.
Don't Waste Your Time Or Money!!!
I will start by saying several of my friends have played this course and it came highly recommended to me. This round turned into a huge letdown. The staff was extremely rude and the pace of play was dreadful! (Almost 6h for 18 holes on a Thursday afternoon). I cannot believe people pay $85 to play here on the weekends! The greens were littered with ball marks that had not been repaired, and because of how the course is designed, you wind up walking at least half the time, so your cart becomes almost null & void. I will certainly NOT be going back.
great venue
this course has some of the best sight lines around, and if you r going to play be sure you walk up the steps to the tip t box on 18, the greens were pretty slow but the course was well worth playing.
Better public track than most in the area
Layout is great, and gusts off the river make club selection key on every hole. Plays very challenging from the tips at just over 7000. Pace of play can be slow on the weekends as expected. Major downfall is no range on premises...
Not worth the wait
River winds has the bones of a great course. But they don't take care to make it special. I played on a Wednesday at 2:30 as a walk up single. The bag guy was super rude and dismissive. Then the starter gave a 10 min lecture on how important it was to keep pace of play, don't drive in the rough, and repair ball marks - all good things and none enforced. No rangers, carts everywhere, and greens that look as pock marked as a teenagers acne face. While waiting to hit our approach shots on 9 I spotted the starter chatting to a maintenance guy by the pump station. I went over and asked him to speak to the group in front as they had no one holding them up and just played a 2.5 hr 9. No help, no difference. 5 hours 15 min on a Wednesday - for shame. Plus their "signature" 17th is a rinky dink Par 3 covered in goose excrement. Pass on this one and head somewhere else.
Good to play
I haven't been playing much, so my game was off. The course demanded to be in the fairways to shoot good scores, but you could find wayward shots fairly easily. Conditions were good. Cart paths end pretty far away from the greens, which slowed play. I will be back.
Too slow
The pace of play was horrible. Clearly lacked a ranger (or at least one that would keep the pace up). Overall it was a great course, but could not tolerate the constant wait on each hole. Round was close to 5.5 hours on a Sunday afternoon.
First time playing, very impressed
The course was in great shape and definitely featured a challenging layout. Make sure to pay attention to the hole signs on each tee as it becomes easy to get out of position without local knowledge. The greens were slow-ish with normal usage marks for a public course, but rolled well. Overall this is a great course that I would highly recommend playing.
Scenic course, slow round
I think they book too many tee times. There was a 2:42 and a 2:51 and yet they expect 15 minute pace of play per hole. There just end up being too many groups out there at once. I like the course, but probably a little overpriced and they need to fix their tee sheet.
