Berkshire Valley Golf Course

About
Berkshire Valley has a scenic location in the Highlands region of northern New Jersey. It is known as one of best public golf courses in the area. The course is perched atop the ridge of Green Pond Mountain, providing a dramatic topography for a challenging round of golf. The front of the golf course was carefully carved from a hillside, featuring narrow fairways that place a premium on accuracy. The first five holes are particularly scenic as well as formidable. There are some open holes that play along the cliffs, subjecting them to the prevailing winds, one of these is the intimidating par-5 third. The Berkshire Valley golf course finishes with its signature hole. This hole can be deceiving since it has a generous fairway, but the second shot is uphill to a tough green.

Challenging layout
Overall nice course. Amazing views, fun layout. Pace can be slow at times. Tee boxes are my only complaint. Currently in horrendous condition
Love this course
Beautiful and challenging course! Well maintained. Will definitely come back again!
Scenic
Berkshire is a scenic and challenging public course. However, most tee boxes were in bad shape. Additionally, golfers are not replacing divots on the course and repairing divots on the greens. Poor etiquette.
another reason i love my home course
BV is one of the best layouts in the metro area. I very rarely play it on the weekends because of $$$ and sometimes slow pace of play. Yesterday 3 groups ahead made us play in 5 1/2 hours. BV handed out free 9 hole vouchers for our trouble. Well done BV!
Great Course
Challenging course with picturesque views ...had a great time. We will be back
beautiful
Extremely picturesque coarse built in a valley between 2 ridges. I would dare to say one of the prettiest views of any course in New Jersey. Greens were well protected and could be a challenging. Fairways were fairly flat and were in very good (more like private club) shape. You do have to hit the fairway to have a flat lie. Alot of side hill lies if you didn't hit it straight. We were 2 , 60-year-olds and found some of the hikes (up and down) challenging on the side of the fairways and even to some greens.
A great value especially if you're a county member (which we were not) . I would go back.
ps people should fix their ball marks.
Shortcuts Taken in Maintenance
This is a nice layout but from time to time conditions deteriorate and/or shortcuts are taken. Now is one of those times. 2 of the par 3’s are water carries and the weeds have been allowed to grow so high that the greens are no longer visible from the tee! Blind shot par 3’s over water!. The cheapo course solution has been to install tall flags instead of cut the weeds. This is a joke and ruins 2 perfectly fine holes. And the tee boxes are badly beat up on most holes too.
Busy
Golfer spacing could be better. A long period of time went by after i arrived with nobody sent out, then several groups were sent out close together. If nobody goes out on a time slot let someone who's early get out to improve golfer spacing.
Berkshire Valley was in terrific condition when I there on 7/723. As good or better than private courses that I've played.
The course is a fair and fun test for mid to high handicappers, especially from the Gold Tees, with a few straightforward holes and a few challenging ones. So there's a fair mix of the easy and difficult.
The staff was friendly and accommodating, including the starter. (Our cart lost power on the 18th tee. I called the pro shop and two of the staff came out immediately
with a replacement for us.)
A little pricey for non county residents, but well worth it.
Rain out
I never really got to play. The whole course only played six holes because of a torrential downpour, could not play the course because it was flooded beyond playing conditions. I was wondering if there’s a rain check involved seeing that I only played six holes will you respond to this hopefully yes overall the course seems to be a nice course. I hope to play fully in the future.
Resorts World Catskills Stay & Play Package
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package

I agree this is one of the better public in the state.
Roger would be very disappointed in the way it is run.
2:40 to play 9 holes on a Wednesday. Called the clubhouse, they said they would send a ranger out. Never saw the ranger, skipped a few holes and the course was wide open.
When i got back in the starter informed me the ranger did not work during the week.
Not a water cooler on the course. When someone collapses from dehydration and they are sued, maybe they'll rethink. There are water coolers on Sunset & Flanders, same management company.
BTW - course was pretty beat up. In fairness they did have a bit of rain.
