Neshanic Valley Golf Course is a 27-hole layout that was designed by the renowned team of Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry. The course is divided into three nines that can be played in different 18-hole combinations. The nines -- the Lake, Ridge, and Meadow -- are named after the different features of the varied terrain but each par-36 nine has five different sets of tees, which provides playing options for all skill levels. On the Meadow/Ridge Course you'll find ample fescue along the fairways and greens. The greens are especially tricky since not only are they framed by massive bunkers, the putting surfaces are also contoured. Though the slopes are subtle, they can be very tricky. There is a pond on the front nine and environmentally sensitive wetlands come into play throughout.

Lake to Meadow

Always worth the drive to play here. Knew ahead of time that aeration started this week. Lake was done , Meadow gets aerated the next day. Still a challenge. Look forward to playing again.

Give out free ball mark repair tool

Course was beautiful as usual but this time the green were riddled with pitch marks which is sad that the public just ignore them. The course should mention fixing them at check in and maybe hand out free repair tools.

Great course, horrible staff

Neshanic is truly a beautiful course with different layouts for the 27 holes. Everything about this place is great except the staff. Extremely rude starter and staff inside the pro shop. I don’t come to play golf on a Friday to be met by disgruntled and rude staff. Fix it.

A different type of course

While a lot of courses test your putting, this one tests the rest of your game, offering difficult landing areas, testing your course management skills. Worth playing for an intermediate golfer.

Post IDA storm

I was very impressed with the course conditions after the storm.

There was zero drainage problems, soggy spots or any issues due to the rain a few days ago.

Amazing.

I love all 3 nine hole courses and prefer Meadow Lake combo.

However if you play Ridge enough club choice on certain holes

helps a lot. And of course when you choose the right club it makes the round more pleasurable.

My only complaints would be around the bar-restaurant as it does not make you want to stay and hang out.

They need to improve that for customers.

A beautiful course

Drove about 75 minutes based on a recommendation from a friend and it was completely worth it. This is one of the nicest courses I’ve ever played. I can’t think of anything but good things to say. Can’t wait to go back

After Ida

First timer. Rain on n off and after a hurricane with local roads covered with dried mud, yet the course had no soggy spots. You have a Chinese menu here picking 2 of 3 "Meadow, Ridge, Lake" 9 holes. Started on "Ridge" with another two some that knew the course too well. Well ridge is the hardest of the three with several holes with partial blinded tee offs and stretches of tall grass to hit over. Putting greens also challenging with various levels and deceptive slopes. "How did it turn.." was often heard. Meadow was a ton easier and faster to get through. One employee told me ridge was least favorite for many. Course gets alot of play and divots abound. I agree the best Somerset County course. Though I still prefer the Academy course. Just like seeing the entire hole, more open and like the speed of play there better. A better player should go Ridge, Lake and test their abilities.

Best Public Facility in the Tri-State Area

If you haven't played Neshanic Valley, make it a point to get there, but make sure you bring your A-Game This is a top notch facility. 3 really fantastic, and somewhat challenging nines. Great grass range, and awesome practice area. Also, you're likely to play fast since they rotate the tees. Hard to believe this is a county course. I wish county courses were this good in Westchester, but they aren't even close.

The tees, fairways, greens, sand, and rough are all in perfect condition. No bare spots in the rough. It's thick and hard to get out of for the most part. Fairways are cut tight and are one of the best surfaces around to hit a golf ball off of. No bare spots or rough patches. Greens were a little slower than usual this past time I was there because of all the rain we got recently. But they still rolled really nicely. Bunkers are soft.

I don't have any complaints about Neshanic, Just 1 suggestion possibly. Please rotate the tee schedule. Here's why... Personally, I wake up at 4:30 a.m. and travel almost 2 hours to get there. So when I come down from NY to play, I wake up at the butt crack of dawn to tee off around 7:00 a.m. I usually book a second tee time for around noon. If I'm traveling that far to play 36, it would be nice to know that I'm not playing the same rotation each time. Don't get me wrong, Meadow/Lake is an amazing 18. As is Ridge/Lake. But just one time, I'd like the option of playing Ridge/Meadow without having to sit around until almost 2:00 p.m. to play that 18. Since I travel so far, I want to get on the road as early as possible to beat the traffic back to NY. So mixing up the schedule would be ideal for someone like me. I was playing with a local this past time who actually said the same thing. Since he is only able to play after 12:00 p.m., he said he gets stuck playing the same two nines every time as well. Just a suggestion.

If you love golf, play this place. You won't be disappointed..
