White Oaks Country Club is carved from the mature pinelands of Newfield in south Jersey. Towering oak trees frame the golf course, separating each hole and giving each one a secluded feel. There are several challenges in store on this layout including massive strategically placed bunkers and water hazards, but it is also forgiving enough to accommodate beginners. The golf course does not have just one hole that it considers its signature but in fact, multiple holes. There is the par-5 seventh which stretches to a monstrous 621 yards and the par-4 ninth features a tricky second shot over water to a double green. These two challenging holes take advantage of the landscape's natural contours. The 17th is yet another signature hole, it has been voted the "toughest par 3 in South Jersey."

Nice play to play

Came to play, but discovered there was an outing, so concerned we would get stuck behind them, but didn't need to worry as starter put us out on 10. Pace was great until we made the turn. As we were the first group to off 10 we were amazed to see a 4-some teeing off on 1; I guess the new stater did not tell them starting hole was 10 due to the outing. So, the great pace we had going was lost; what should have been a 4 hour round came closer to 4.5. That was the only issue we encountered on what was a beautiful day for golf on some slightly sanded greens.

Working in Bringing the Course Back

It is no secret that White Oaks has suffered over the past several years and this summer's weather extremes didn't help. They are working to get the course back in shape. The greens were in very good condition. A lot of the rough was dried out hard soil. The fairways are much improved but there still are large patches of grassless areas on some of them. Tee boxes were iffy but you can see they are working to bring many back. They have added GPS to the carts. They are priced low due to the conditions so it is lower cost option.

Why no water in ball washers?

My wife & I had a nice time playing White Oaks. It is the closest course to our home, and we got a nice “hot deal”. I was unhappy about the lack of water in the ball washers. I stopped at the turn, and mentioned it to the young man at the desk. He told me that they did’t have sufficient staff to maintain the ball washers and it was a public health problem. He suggested I bring my own. I was not pleased with his answer. How often would the washers even need to be serviced? Considering the increases in the cost of golf in recent years, I don’t understand. Why such a simple thing would be a problem. I have not had this experience at any other golf course, I play several times per week at various courses in the area and on vacations. This does not make me want to return to White Oaks.

WO

The deal on tee off is worth the 34 dollars per golfer but it's not worth anymore than that. Greens are just okay and fairways are getting beat up with grab grass and lots of dirt spots.

Course in need of work

Course has a decent layout but needs a lot of work on fairways, bunkers and especially tee boxes. I found 17th hole, par 3 to be in the best condition on the whole course. Green are all in good shape.

Fun but could be better

We played here in the spring and enjoyed it so we decided to try again. The course and layout is very nice and the carts are newly equipped with GPS which was nice. The greens were firm but rolled true and were in nice condition. Tee boxes were a mess with many wet and just dirt. The fairways were hard with lots of hard pan dirt which led to great roll out but often good shots kicked into the woods leaving you with a difficult shot or punch out. If we get some rain perhaps the fairways would thicken up.

All in all for the 65 we paid it was worth it, we enjoyed it and had a good time.
