The Architects Golf Club

About
The Architects Golf Club is a unique layout that honors legendary course designers including Donald Ross, A.W. Tillinghast, and Alistair Mackenzie. Each hole is named after a famous designer, beginning with Old Tom Morris. The opening par 5 pays homage to St. Andrews' designer through the use of the existing features as hazards such as the rock wall and the sloping hillside that the green is deftly carved into. One of the most memorable holes is the 13th, another par 5 that will give you a taste of what it's like to play Augusta. This Alistair Mackenzie-inspired hole offers many risks and rewards. Golfers will face fairways bunkers and a pond on the left and then a creek that runs diagonally in front of the triple-tiered green. Position is the key to maneuvering this tough hole.

Great Course, Bad Greens
This is a fun track to play but I always had the WaWaWaaa feeling once I got to the green on every hole. They were riddled with ball marks and just extremely slow unfortunately. Serious about the ball marks though I fixed like 3-4 besides my own on almost every hole. They definitely as a staff need to do a better job of telling the playing public to fix there ball marks or get a crew to go do it. The greens just we not in great shape and some were spotty causing the ball to either bounce or wiggle off line. All I can say is that if I had payed the full price of $69/weekday instead of a GN deal of $55 I would have been beyond aggravated. At that price for the middle of the beginning of the week and around $100 on the weekend I expected much more from this course especially when they boast on there website that the conditions are always great! Not so much. I shot a 76 so this isn't a revengeful review either, I adjusted to the slow greens just wasn't expecting the poor condition they were in. At the end of the day my playing buddies did say we'd return just maybe in the fall but not during the summer time again.
A little Disappointed
The Layout is outstanding. 5" of rain the previous week really hurt the course. The greens were pock marked, traps were totally washed out. Over all layout is Excellent. Going to take time to get the course back in good condition. I would call and ask first on condition
Not worth the money
Second time I've played at Architects and second time the course was in terrible condition. It hadn't rained in three days and yet every sand trap was flooded to the point there was a foot of water and the fairways were drenched and swampy. This was the same condition the course was in the previous time I played it. I saw no evidence of and pumps or attempts to drain the water. Drainage definitely a huge problem there. Absolutely not worth the money. Don't waste your time.

Thank you for your review of the club. The club was hit with record setting rain, a lot of the storms were localized to our area, the past few weeks and we have been doing everything in our power to get the club back to the 5 star conditions everyone has come to expect. We had a stretch of 3-4 days where we had just about 6 inches of rain come down on the course. During that time one of our pumps did fail and the part we needed was on back order! Again there is no excuse and not our customers problem but a perfect storm of different things led to your not so stellar experience. Please call Lawrence our GM at the clubhouse as he would be more than happy to discuss this with you in more detail over the phone. 908-213-3080 Ext. 126.
Not well kept
Have played this course multiple times. This was the worst shape it has ever been. Tee boxes full of unrepaired divots. Greens with hundreds of ball marks and scalped to burned area's. All the sand traps were unplayable and totally washed out, no sand, underliner showing, half filled with water. To make matters worse it was cart path only like you could have damaged it worse then it is! For the price you pay to play there not worth the money!
Overrated Track
I'm surprised at all of the 4 and 5 star ratings. They had a lot of rain the prior week but that's no excuse for the awful shape of this course . From the lumpy divot filled tee boxes to overgrown spike marked greens the experience was in line with a below average muni track .

Thank you for your feedback and comments. We have had some terrible weather that caused your not so stellar experience when you visited us and the course is usually in much better shape, and that's why we have 4-5 star reviews from earlier in the year. We are already seeing improvements the past week and are praying for no more rain as the course received over 10 inches of rain over the past 4 weeks. Yes 10"! We had a lot of localized storms that crippled us. If you would like to talk to me about this more you can always call me. My name is Lawrence and I am the GM. 908-213-3080 Ext. 126. Thanks and we hope to see you again!
Not what it was. Sliding quickly downhill.
Please know that this is the third or fourth time I have played this course over the past 11 years. In the past, it was an enjoyable place to play. The different design cues from different designers made for an interesting round. I would not have returned had I known the current condition of the course and its staff.
No one to help with getting bags out of my car. Greeter was too busy on phone to help. The entire vibe of the once very nice course has deteriorated over the last couple of years. This place is looking like it is in serious financial straights. There are significant cost cutting measures in place which manifest themselves in formerly free amenities now being up charges. One such example it the driving range looks like it have t had real maintenance in a while. There were no flags in the driving range. The practice sand trap was roped off. The score cards were photocopies in black and white . As there is no GPS on the carts, and no hole diagrams on the tee markers, there was no way for a new player to know where to hit the ball.
In all, I would stay away.

Walter,

I already addressed your comment about the outside staff with our outside manager as the bag drop staff is supposed to be assisting with your bag.
Your comment on the sand trap down at the range being roped off is because we tested a new liner that we are planning on using on the rest of the course for future bunker renovations. That bunker was ground under repair the time you played. They actually just finished the work on it today 8/15/17.
The black and white score cards you were given were temporary scorecards that we had made because we recently placed a new order for new scorecards. The new cards are being used today.
Please call Lawrence our GM at the clubhouse as he would be more than happy to discuss this with you in more detail over the phone. 908-213-3080 Ext. 126.
Nice course
Course was extremely wet from rain. Was cart path only and many were not following that rule. So wet our shoes shot water up in the air as we walked to our ball.
Great Round
Course was in really good shape. Greens could have been a little faster, but not going to to complain to much. I typically play early but was still surprised when I got around in 3+ hours.
The name says it all
Not a copycat layout! Each hole represents the style of the golf course architect
An explanation on each tee indicates the architect and some of their famous courses.
Play from the proper tee or you won't enjoy the course as much.
Round at Architechs
Great course in excellent condition. Great course design and layout. Well worth the trip. Have played several time and never disappointed.
great day
I had a great day and enjoyed playing the course. The varied designs on the holes were interesting and Stephen Kay did a wonderful job of melding them all together so they flowed thru the entire 18 holes. I was disappointed that the course was not marked better for yardages and also that there was no diagram on the scorecards on the holes as the uphill blind tee shots did not allow a view of the hole which could dictate how to play the tee shot. My partner and I were fortunate to be paired with two players who knew the course.
Better than I remember
Played on 6/17/17 The course was in excellent shape. Went out as a twosome on a saturday morning and was waved through on the second hole. Two other groups also lets play through so we finished in 3 hours 15 minutes. Course conditions were excellent, used many different clubs in the bag. Really fun to play.Grass driving range to warm uo on. Ill definitely will be back
Awesome track
There is not one thing that I would change about this course. The course was in great shape and the pace of play was as well. It was really how each hole was based on a design of an old course architect. I definitely plan on going back.
SLOW
Slow play tee times booked 9 minutes apart. Had some type menbers outing during the day. played later but had backups and slow play through out the day. If it wasn't for one ranger that moved us up two groups it would have been 5.5 hour round. instead it was 5 hours. Love the course but the last 3 times we played their the same thing. I give my money somewhere else.
Nice, but...
The course is very nice, great views. But I was extremely disappointed in the traps. I played at 11am on a beautiful sunny day. The traps were skinned hard pan and there were large pools of water in many. I understand the water as there were several days of rain. But there was truly no sand, just hard dirt. But I will play there again
Beautiful course and surrounding area
Played this course for the first time after work with my two friends and we were happy with the experience. The course was pretty much empty because we played after an event. The greens were in good shape, the roughs are kinda high so it could be a bit challenging to get out of/find your ball. There is a good amount of sand traps located in prime spots for each hole so it does add to a moderately difficult course. They were not that hard to get out of even with the somewhat wet conditions. Finishing the front nine you come up to the very beautiful clubhouse and pond. The view is quite amazing. I look forward to playing there again.
Worth the drive
This course is in excellent condition. It is almost like playing at a private track. The course isn't overly difficult, but you can get into some trouble in the well placed bunkers and thick fescue.
Golf Nuts
Eight seniors enjoyed a nice afternoon playing a first rate course. Excellent service, beautiful fairways.

Lou,
Thank you very much for your feedback! We are doing our best at the club to get things back in order as we received record breaking rain over the past few weeks. It is looking like the weather is going to be in our favor the next couple days!
