Scotland Run Golf Club
About
Scotland Run Golf Club is conveniently located less than a half hour from downtown Philadelphia and only 45 minutes from Atlantic City. It has been voted the top golf course in the Philadelphia Region and it's also ranked in Golf World's Top 50 Public Courses in the country. The layout is routed through and around an old sand quarry, providing a unique mix of wooded, quarry, and links-style holes. The distinctive landscape has unique features including expansive waste areas and imposing cliffs that were deftly incorporated into the design. The golf course is wide open, which means it's at the mercy of the prevailing winds. Scotland Run Golf Club is a tough but fair test where you'll face forced carries, water hazards, and strategically placed bunkers. On mornings where the fog rolls off of the hills, for a split second you might think you're at St. Andrews.

Sand is everywhere, including the greens
This is the second time we played this course this year. Earlier in the season it was in bad shape during aeration of the fairways and tee boxes. I called the course the day before to ask about the conditions and they said it was good, but the tee boxes had been top dressed. They were not honest. The course needs much work. The greens had also been top dressed with sand. We would not have played the course again under those conditions.
Course was being severely aerated.
Aerated greens, fairways, and tees and heavy watering made the course tough to play. Bargain price made it ok overall. I played with two compatible players and finished before dark.
depending on the rate when you play can be well worth the trip
Sometimes the test of a course is how it plays and how the staff treat customers in less than ideal conditions. Played soon after aerification and the greens were not great. But the staff, attittude and pace of play made up for this. I would shop for twilight and discount rates to make this a real deal. At peak hours and peak rates i am not sure it would have been as much fun. Nice layout with one or two gimicky holes but overally nice assortment of very different holes. Solid par threes, good routing.
The course is very good and challengening.
Scotland Run is a very enjoyable course. The only problem is the typical hackers holding up play.
Not the shape it used to be. Getting rough around the edges as well as a little beaten up.
Not in great shape. Greens were slow and fairways were sad
Great course
Great course really enjoyed playing here lots of doglegs so it makes you think while you play tough greens as well a great place to play and the staff was really friendly
Very Different Course. First 9 plays into the woods, and the next 9 are troon style.
Course needed some attention around the greens. Fairways were nice and bunkers were well groomed
Very challenging
By far the most challenging course I've played! Every hole had a unique degree of difficulty to it! Wether it was the greens or the overall layout, each hole made you stop and think about your club choice and approach! I loved it and will definitely be back!
Great conditions despite rain
Lots of sand, which was rough and muddy due to major rain storm night before. Drained well and was pretty dry by end of round. Challenging course, and not a wasted hole.
Very unique course
This course is certainly a challenge with great conditions this late in the year. Minus the fact that the course played a little slow on a Saturday afternoon, this course was great. The greens were super fast and the fairways/tees were mostly maintained. There are several "long" holes and several "short" holes. Not many blind shots so this was a good course for a first time golfer.
The greens and bunkers were excellent
Really got a great greens fee from GolfNow - and the course was worth every minute of it. Normally it is overpriced for the average golfer. The course was excellent and the greens were fast and level - the bunkers were consistant throughout the course - fairways and tee boxes were nice for this late in the season. But $65 during week is just a bit much, but I would play it alot more at $50 weekday.
great course, hard greens
Very pretty course with a great clubhouse, bar and restaurant. All the holes are well maintained but beware of the greens! Read the booklet they provide as it gives helpful tips for each hole.
Very highly recommended, but coming from FL it was a bit pricey.
Greens fast and excellent
Scotland Run is always an interesting course incorporating its previous use as a sand quarry to good use providing some decision making opportunities on various holes. I found the greens to be in excellent shape probably the best I have played this season, fast and firm. It appeared that one of the fairways on the back nine had been replanted and was still growing in, probably as a result of the damage many courses in S.J. suffered earlier in the summer to have rainfall amounts. We were lucky to fly though the course in 31/2 hours due to starting on the back nine while a tournament was going off on the front nine and were free to start every hole without any delays. We received a great value as our round was booked through GolfNow but I only rated value as average because I am aware that the course can be more expensive if booked through the course web site.
Greens are good. Several fairways need turf.
The greens were receptive and rolled true and they were fast. However, many of the fairways lacked turf and the tee boxes showed a lot of wear. It is a fun course to play despite the less than good condition.
nicest public course in the area!
I have played several of the area courses over my long golf career. I think Scotland Run is the areas best by a longshot. From the clubhouse to the course conditions, this course is player friendly and takes you out of South Jersey and places you on a traditional Scottish Links course with a modern feel. Our group played on a Wednesday and returned the next day for another round because we enjoyed it so much. If your a golfer that appreciates the traditions of golf, a well groomed course, friendly staff and a challenging round at a reasonable price. this is the spot. Great food too! We will be back!
Conditions Don't Justify the Price
I had heard great things about Scotland Run, so perhaps my expectations were too high, but for the price I was disappointed. Greens were spotty including several with massive tire tracks across them. Hard to find a true roll on many of the greens because of un-repaired ball marks. There were some interesting holes, but many seem to be cut from the same cloth and therefore don't require a variety of shots. I probably only used half my bag.
Very nice course. Great Layout.
Played this course today and I was very happy I did. First off I got a hot deal and only paid 3o dollars. Can't beat that. I have seen bad reviews about some poor conditions. There were definitely some low lying areas that clearly had water damage, but we have gotten more rain this summer than ever recorded. Greens didn't "look" the best, but rolled very nicely and were very fast. some of the truest roll I have played on. Some tee boxes were beat up, but not all of them. I guess if I paid full price I may not have been as happy with the course, but I enjoyed it. Tee time was 640 am too so only one 3some in front of me and I joined up with another hot dealer single who was a very nice guy. Can't wait to get another hot deal and go back. Only gave it 4 out of 5 stars due to some of the water damage. I bet it would have been 5 stars if I played it in June.
Normally an excellent track!
Greens were being cross cut and we were never informed
That this was going on......played about 7 holes that were
completely un-puttable........puts a damper on the round!
