Wild Turkey Golf Club
About
Wild Turkey Golf Club is one of New Jersey's top public courses. It is part of the Crystal Springs Resort, which offers six other courses including the popular Ballyowen and Crystal Springs golf courses. Wild Turkey combines characteristics from both. The layout has a unique design inspired by the interesting topography, which is most aptly described as "basin and ridge." The "basin" of the course is a wide-open expanse that offers plenty of room while the holes that play along the "ridge" of the golf course tumble across a variety of elevation changes. Due to the dramatic undulations of the terrain, it's a tough golf course to walk. Wild Turkey Golf Club's signature hole is the par-3 seventh. This tricky hole calls for a demanding carry over a quarry lake in order to reach the well protected green.

Great course
We played during aeration time so greens were covered in sand. Otherwise a very nice course to play. Challenging. Staff friendly.
Wild Turkey Golf Now
An Excellent Course perfect Outstanding Greens Exceptionally Maintained
Everyone is extremely helpful
Except for brief thunderstorms
Outstanding !!!!
The course was in great shape and the pace of play was 4:15 which was great. Greens, fairways and tee boxes were all in great shape. There were some water logged bunkers but based on how much it had rained 2 days before, it was impressive that the course was not that wet. All in all, a great day at wild turkey.
Ehhh
Nice course and decent layout. For a $100+ course I’d expect a little better conditions. Greens were super slow and bunkers were horrible, especially without much rain. A little disappointed but a good course none the less.
Top Course in the TriState area
Sand traps were not in great condition.
Realizing how much rain the area has had this season, I’m sure new sand is in its way!
No discount for aerated greens
Played on a blustery April day when absolutely no one else was on the course. The man working the counter told us that the greens had been aerated the week before. Now, I understand that aerated greens make for less than ideal conditions, but these greens were atrocious- every put was knocked off line. There wasn’t enough sand on the greens- it was a joke. After the round we asked for some sort of discount and were told we had been warned. Yes, but that’s assuming the aeration island sanding didn’t make craters and bumps that would make the ball fly in the air while putting. Some sort of compensation should have been offered for a terrible experience.
Cheers to Crystal Springs!
Wild Turkey is such a great couse! Even on April 6th the entire facility was up and running smoothly. The conditions were great. I've been wanting to start a membership with Crystal Springs. I may finally do it this year. I am an avid low handicap player but I have to budget myself. Hopefully I'll find a good deal so I play at Crystal Springs alot this year.
Cold and Windy March Round
Overall, Wild Turkey is a great course and fun layout. Today was a challenge. I could only count about 6 foursomes out in this 38-42 degree weather with wind bursts up to 35mph. Conditions were ok but obviously not like peak season. Speed was great - no one in front or behind. The value rating is because they charged $70 and the greens were extremely slow. Not that I expected better but if the price for the round was $49 - that would have been a good value.
Great course
Great course. Great layout. Some water from prior day storms but great job by ground crew. Highly recommend!
Not worth the price
The course is very nice but lacks flow. There are several great holes but the course seems to be an after though instead of a well designed course. It plays as 2 thrown together courses as you drive flong distance between holes.
I enjoy the other courses in the area for less $$.
Wild Turkey..A real gem
I played Wild Turkey for the first time today and it was fantastic. Great staff, course layout is challenging but fair. Each hole was interesting and we all really enjoyed it. I will be back for sure in the near future.
Where’s the $$ going?
Every time I visit Crystal Springs it is busy. Weekends with multiple weddings, huge golf outings, this weekend the beer fest. Restaurants are packed and rooms are pricey over $350 per night.
So why are bunkers filled with rocks?? Why are greens not cut and rolled?? The courses are great but to pay the prices they want I would expect sand in the bunkers, level tee boxes and greens a little less like carpet please.
Hint Hint
I’ve played the course many times before and enjoyed it thoroughly. Unfortunately, they had airated and OVER(hint hint) sanded the greens. I say this with zero exaggeration, they were about 70%-80% unputtable. There was up to a 1/2” of sand in some spots. Very inconsistently done to the point where the green looked yellow in some places and green in others. Mostly yellow around the holes which added to the disappointment. (Hint hint) teach your greens crew better practices. Oh, and $70 is enough of a discount for those conditions.
Moral: normally a great course, but definitly call ahead to find out if they airated and sanded.
Greens too Fast for a Resort Course
Wild Turkey is a beautiful course and it is right at the Crystal Springs resort if you decided to get a "Stay & Play" package. The resort is great so I do recommend staying at Crystal Springs.
The biggest issue with the Wild Turkey course is the speed of the greens, which are extremely fast and caused very good golfers in my group to three-putt more holes than they do normally. At a resort course you get all levels of golfers and fast greens are a pace of play nightmare. The greens were interesting enough without adding the degree of difficulty of super fast greens.
One thing women golfers will want to be aware of is that some holes are really too long for the par value. For example, Hole 5 is a 378 yard Par 4 (in comparison, BallyOwen, #1 course in NJ and part of the Crystal Springs family of courses) hole #10 is a 386 year Par 5 (so only 6 yards longer and a fair PAR value at 386, which is fair).
If you can only play one course in the Crystal Springs area, play BallyOwen.
Bunker issues continue
This course could be a gem but the long reported bunker issues continue. Some traps don’t have enough sand to hit an explosion shot. Many have tiny rocks. The pot bunker in front of the 18th green has significant bed lining protruding through the minimal, rocky sand. Wrist injury waiting to happen...
Great staff and otherwise great course, it doesn’t make sense they let the bunkers get so bad.
Great course, slow round.
Turkey is a great layout, in very good condition. But this round took 5 hours. Too slow.
Great Course
I have played Wild Turkey many times. We played from the white tees, about 5900 yards. White tees are great for high handicappers like me and the blue tees are challenging for better golfers. Course is very fair with some wide fairways. Most holes have greenside bunkers but if you are accurate, you can avoid the sand. Greens were smooth and fast but not extremely fast. Downhill putts were tricky.
