Dunedin Golf Club
About
Dunedin Golf Club was carved out of citrus groves and was the PGA National Golf Course until 1962. The golf course itself is delightful. From elevation changes to a river that bisects the course, you can just feel the aura of the great golfers who have played here. Bobby Jones, Gene Saraze, Ben Hogan, Sam Snead, Byron Nelson, Paul Runyan to name a few have participated in tournaments here. Dunedin Country Club is located in Dunedin, minutes from the beaches, many restaurants and several top hotel options. Dunedin Golf Club is a Donald Ross creation.

Dunedin Golf gem
Course was in excellent condition considering the amount of rain it has taken the last week.
Great course layout
11th hole is tough!
Don't waste your money
The last 2 times I have played this course, my partner and I got stuck behind fivesomes of members. The club staff is aware of this, and allows it. It slows play unbelievably, and there is no ranger to speed things up, which he wouldn't do anyway since they are members.
You need to warn folks about this before they book a round, because waiting behind groups of 5 old men is a great way to ruin a golf round.
They won't ruin another one for me.
Great course, members suck
Went out as a single player. Played one of my best rounds. Everyone NOT a member let me quickly pass by and we’re very friendly. The members, only able to tell by their own carts, made me wait behind their foursome for multiple holes with no one ahead of them. Once I passed the first group, after bluntly asking, it was smooth sailing for a few more holes. Met another foursome of members and they told me to skip the hole and come back and play it, after trailing them for two holes. To my luck, the hole I skipped was being played by the first foursome of members. That took an extra 30 minutes to finish the skipped hole. Greens were in amazing shape. Difficulty was a average. Lots of open fairways so a shank was easily redeemable.
Very Sad...
Place is an absolute dump these days. Grass sparse, bare spots abound mixed with weeds. If I wanted to hit out of St Augustine grass would hit in my yard. Collars of greens are atrocious. Played a couple weeks ago and gave it another shot. Donald Ross’ group should get their name off this place.
No water for sale anywhere, in FL, in May. Early morning but get a clue. Last time here for me.
Great Track, not so great conditions
Awesome Donald Ross layout. Conditions were not very good. Many bald/patched spots on greens and fairways. Fairways not bad though. The greens rolled decent but were a little slow. Bunkers are very good! I've played this course other times in the past and the greens were not as bald/patched. Hoping its get back to better conditions soon!
Good Layout in Poor Condition
Interested layout in poor condition. Many greens with bald/dead spots on them. Fairways were okay, but some had large bad patches. Tees were in good shape. Bunkers were pristine.
The condition really holds it back. There's a lot of potential in the layout, and if it were in good shape I could see it being a really fun course to play.
Hidden Gem
This is a hidden gem. Layout is outstanding. Only thing keeping me from rating higher are some of the conditions, particularly on the greens. There are bare spots on several, but they do roll fine and with speed. Have played it 3 times in past week and plan on playing a couple more times this week. With a little more TLC ($$) this could be quite the place
Wet Conditions On Difficult Course
Overnight it had rained a couple of inches and more than half the holes were cart path only. Not much roll in most places. Pace of play was a little slower than normal...slightly over 4 hours.
Greens were fast. Don't leave the ball above the hole especially on this course.
Donald Ross design and know that this course hosted numerous PGA tournaments. Will give many people a good challenge. I always like Don Ross courses.
Donald Ross can still grab you here
Love this course. Overseeded for the winter and looks beautiful. Still a few wet areas from all the rain but in great shape. Always challenging and steeped in history. If you've never played here, do it and read the signs on the tee boxes.
Great Course, But Has Temporary Issues
I've played this course a few times, mainly because I like the challenging layout and usually good conditions.
However, for the next month I would call the course before booking a round. Currently, there is a 90 degree cart rule in place, which I would say is not uncommon, but it slows play.
The more bothersome, avoidable issue is that on most of the holes (14-15 of them), the tees are all moved up to the front tee decks. If you like to play off the blues or whites, you're not going to like this. I felt I didn't get what I came/paid for.
I assume this is temporary, but I would recommend they rotate their tee decks over time so only 2-3 are moved at a time. If the plan is to move all the front tees to the back tee decks for a while next, there are going to some unhappy campers again, like my wife. This should be done so its not really noticeable to golfers.
Used to be a Gem - Disappointed
Dried out fairways and Greens need care. Used to be one of the better courses in the area but no more. Great layout but will stay away until conditions improve.
Very nice hidden gem in Dunedin
Played this course on 3/29/19 and was pleasantly surprised. Greens were rolling around a ten and putting true. Small rounded greens typical of Donald Ross. Nice belend of long and short par 4’s make the course play longer than the stated yardage. Would highly recommend this track if you are in the area.
Fun, challenging course
Played for the first time on August 8th. I was pleasantly surprised by the course . With all the wet weather we have been getting, the course was in near perfect conditions. Fairways were dry, greens were rolling good.
The course itself has trees lining most of the fairways. Not much water that you can hit. I was also surprised to see the amount of elevation changes on this course. It wasn't extreme, however, it was nice to see some elevated tee boxes or downhill shots to greens.
I will definitely play this course again. Even though Bardmoor is within 2 miles of my house, I'd rather make the drive to Dunedin to play this course more frequently.
Expect Old Golf Days, Classic Ross
A must for Ross fans. Very rich in history. Greens were exceptional, again classic Ross. Nothing is what it seems if you know Ross, many optical and mind illusions. Old time character. Do not be fooled by distance. At 6300, enough 400+ par 4's, but some scorable par 5's too.
Thank you for your comments. I am the General Manager at the Club and I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed your round with us. Our Superintendent, Allen works diligently to provide a fine course for our members and guests. Again, thank you for your feedback.
Thanks for taking the time to leave a review of our course. I am sorry the experience is not what you expected. We are in transition from our winter over seed and in major drought conditions. This is why we were running a much reduced rate during the time you played.
Unfortunately, we, like all golf courses need rain still! I hope that you would give us another chance after our course has had opportunity to hydrate and heal from the busy winter season. I think you will find the course to be in a more aesthetic and playable shape. Thank you again, for your time and candor.
