Good value and fun to play
I played the Lakes and Meadows layout. Great weather. Course still wet from all the rain but in good shape. Nice variety of holes. Very playable from white tees and challenging for those who want to move back. Nice driving holes with elevation changes.
Great courses in great shape
Took advantage of a $50 weekday special they offered. Tees and fairways are excellent, greens used to be perfect years ago before they allowed the Poa anua to creep in. They are still very good although golfers need to fix their ball marks. They could use some cart path repairs in some spots. The spring rain and cool weather has allowed the rough to grow like crazy and they seem to be having a hard time keeping up with it. 4 inch rough was the norm most of the day and with no step cut a ball just a foot off the fairway can be in some heavy stuff. Most greens have multiple tiers so putting the ball in the wrong place can leave you with a very difficult putt. The three nines can cause an issue on your second 9 start if groups aren't on pace. In our case a group coming of Lakes got in between us and the group we were behind on Meadows causing a 10 minute delay. Very large driving range using both grass (weekends) and mats, a bucket of 35 balls is included in the greens fee. Multiple putting greens and a short game area. For what you get it is one of the top daily fee courses around.
always great
very beautiful layout. scoreable if you are playing well.... brutal if you are having a tough day. it's fair but tough. gorgeous hills and views. great greens and the course drains well. best practice facility in the tristate area
Centennial
Centennial is clearly a lotta fun with 3 different 9's to choose from lakes, fairways and meadows.
Course had just opened for the year the day before and we had a frost delay of an hour and also has taken on a lot of water so cart path only and muddy
Not bad shape for so early in the year in sure as it warms up it will be back
Centennial - Good service
We played on friday after thanksgiving as a 2 ball and the starter did a great job suggesting to play the fairways first nine. Fairways were a little softer after the rain and greens were fast and held well. Liked this nine and the beech trees. Played the Meadows after and is decent nine holes. We tend to find centennial more expensive but golf now rate at $45 was good value today but i see it is back to $85 for weekend. Putting green is big and they do include range balls which is additional value.
Challenging
Great course amenities good condition excellent my favorite course looking forward to play again
Very fun layout
Played lakes/meadows. Both were great but lakes was exceptional, layout wise. Greens were tough and fast and the overall condition we pretty good. Highly recommended.
Another 5+ hour round!
The course itself was impressive. This is the first time I played here after hearing many people tell me about it over the years. I played the Lakes/Meadows route.
We were sent out a half hour behind an outing, and once we caught them after 3 holes the pace became abysmal. The ranger came out and told us they asked the groups to speed up play...it didn't work. We watched them play in front of us as if they were on the pro tour, hitting from the tips, of course. They each took several practice swings, then back off the shots, visualize, more practice swings, address, practice swing, and finally hit. Then they would move up to the next player's ball and wait for him to do the same - and this was repeated for each player. This is when the rangers need to step in and tell them how to play ready golf, put them on the clock and push them forward when they fall over a hole or two behind.
I absolutely HATE, DESPISE, LOATHE, slow play, whether it's on the pro tour or on the local muni. And when the round reaches 5 hours, it's time for the course to seriously review it's pace of play policies. It's no wonder so many people won't play golf anymore. My friends frequently tell me they stopped playing because they don't want to spend the whole day on the course, and I understand what they are saying, driving to and from the course, check in, warm up, wait at the first tee, then a 5 hour round equals about an 8 hour day!
Hey courses...wake up, you're losing business because more and more people don't want to pay high prices to sit around on the course for 5 hours. This is how golf courses get shut down. I likely will never be doing the hour long drive to this course ever again.
Friendly Staff
Staff was very friendly and seem happy and proud to work there. It has a private club feeling, they remembered my name and asked me how my kids were!!! Will go back again very soon. Pace of play was 4:20, very good pace considering the difficulty of the course. Our group was visited by the ranger who helped us find our ball a few times.
Awesome course! Great layout and conditions.
Played this course for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it. Course was immaculate and even though they had aerated a couple weeks before you could barely notice it. Staff was extremely friendly and courteous. I live over an hour away but will come back to play many times in future.
Not in very good shape.
Centennial is a beautiful course and I loved it last year. They did disclose that they punched the greens three weeks ago, but it is still very noticeable and the greens are rolling terribly. Would have expected it to be somewhat recovered. Seems like they haven't been watering as much as they should. I played at another club in the area last week that had recently punched greens and it was in great shape. That makes it tough to blame the weather. Expected much more since their prices haven't budged.
Excellent Facility 27 Holes + Practice
Likely one of the very top daily fee facilities in the NY Metro and certainly the best practice facility. 3 challenging 9 hole tracks lend to mixing up what you play and doing a reply 9 .... plenty of elevation changes and challenging carries. this is not your basic course for beginners. some of the best voiews when the leaves are changing. a world class facility. great staff. and food is good. its high pricing but they give a high quality result.
course is always in good condition. greens really good and undulated.
Everything was beatiful!
The course gives you one great hole after another. Great vistas, lots of hills and very fast and tricky greens.
Staff was very friendly. Got off right on time and altho the pace of play felt a little slow (we were a 3-some behind a couple of 4-somes) we finished in 4 hrs 30 mins.
I will definitely go again and play the 9 holes I did not play.
Great facility
Great place to play, greens still quick after rain, some little beat up drought, lot of play, could explain this. Facilities are excellent ,course well maintained and nice layout playable for all skill levels, can't wait to go back.
Premiere public course in Northeast
Centennial is a great golf course. Great conditions and greens are excellent. Fast and fair
Fairways are wide and allow for mistakes
Entire staff was very accommodating.
Slow and gimmicky
First of all, playing a prestigious public golf course should mean that 18 hole rounds as a foursome should not take more than 4 hours and 15 minutes. It's not a 'plus' that a round moves along, it's a requirement. It's unacceptable that a course run by Troon Golf should ever accept enough reservations that it causes a round to take 4:45. It's impossible to remain focused and invested in a round when you're waiting ten minutes on multiple tee boxes. If you book that many golfers then there should be multiple rangers riding around keeping pace of play up. There are no excuses for it, it's just unnacceptable.
The course is pretty and scenic, and maintained well, but the elevation changes and severely sloped greens become tiresome. I would bet they're not USGA regulation. I'm not asking for flat greens, but it's impossible to stop putts near the flag on some holes if you miss the hole, making three putts a given.
All in all, when I've played quick rounds there, it's enjoyable. But delayed rounds of golf are like receiving delivery food late, it ruins the experience.
Centennial - Meadows/Fairways
course was in great shape, starter let us go as a 2some - an outstanding day! Greens had some spots healing BUT were rolling nice and true... overall was really very good!
Sledge5631
Over all it was a great round. Pace of play was excellent. Fairways were true. Greens were almost like glass. Traps were well, NY traps. Rough was rough. Tough to score out of the rough. But if u hit it straight that shouldn't matter, correct? It's a true test for the public golfer.
Centennial golf course
Lakes course very interesting, fastest greens I have played on. Unfortunately lots of rain so did not get to finish. But I will be back to try again.

I am very sorry for your experience here at Centennial on September 20th. We did have an outing that day, which is not an excuse. Pace of play is a topic we cover everyday here and do everything we can to keep the pace of play moving under 4 hrs. 30 min. I hope you give us another chance to show you our course and a much better experience. Thank you, Scott Klemme
