Course conditions
The fairways were not in great condition. Plenty of bare spots and it didn’t look like any work was being done to repair them,
Greens are in great shape this year. Nice and fast.
Needs lots of work
Our round cost $121 for 18 and a cart. There are 3, nine hole courses here. We played the Meadows and Fairways. The Meadows layout was full of elevation changes with some of the best tee box views in the northeast.
However, the course condition was poor. I know it was a rough summer, but due to the DROUGHT the course was cart path only. First time I have ever played a course that was cart path only for something other than rain or drenched fairways. Seemed odd. This is a brutally difficult course to be cartpath only. However probably half the holes on the Meadows are permanently cartpath only due to the drastic elevation changes of the holes. The fairways were almost as thick as a first cut of rough, and the bunkers were a disaster, they didn't look like they have been raked by a crew in months. The tee boxes were the biggest mess. Again I don't think the tee positions have moved in months considering how damaged they were. Positive: The greens were very good. They were in good shape, speed was good and they ran true. The Meadows course currently also has one of their nicest Par fours changed to a par 3 as they have re-seeded the entire fairway. So it plays as a 160 yard par 3. The 3rd par three on that nine. Positives are the location, the course was built on a beautiful property, but feels like they squeezed in too many holes and many are tricked out. You will lose a ton of golf balls unless you are a 5 or better handicap. Wish they used the property to build 18 amazing holes vs squeezing in 27.
Barren wasteland
Played here many times before and loved it. Booked through tee off this time no mention of cartpath only due to severe drought conditions still charge full price of $95 not worth half of that. I like this course but at $95 around and one of the nine hole course is they have their named lakes you would think they could either irrigate or reduce the price. Played the next day at a Muni course in Trumbull it was plush for $50 you tell me
Mountain Golf
Great conditions and beautiful scenery. Was worth the time to travel but wasnt aware of the amount of elevation in upstate NY. Been dry here so it played hard and fast.
Course is in immaculate shape. The staff does a great job of getting people out to maximize pace of play. Everyone is very freindly.
O-VER-RATED (Clap, clap, clap, clap clap) O-VER-RATED (Clap, clap, clap, clap clap)
Sorry, not sorry. I'm a pretty critical reviewer and will give praise when it's warranted, But I'll also be honest about course faults.
I usually only play this course once a year, and each time I leave here after my round saying to myself "Never again, this is not a $135 course. Not even close." For $135, give me some GPS at least.
If the course was worth it, I'd play it often because I live relatively close and can see the potential. I can see this being a great course if it was given the proper attention and care.
Greens are always awful and filled with ball marks. For $135, put a free divot in each cart to try and encourage people to fix their marks. The greens were also aerated a month ago and have not come back yet. If they tell you over the phone that the greens have come back, they're lying. That's what happened to my playing partners. They are really bumpy.
Fairways are decent, but always soft to the point of balls plugging on some holes. They are also littered with massive divots that nobody replaces.
Bunkers are in desperate need of some attention. They are just crumbling around the edges in a lot of spots.
Tee boxes are pretty good, but appeared to not have been cut in a few days on some holes.
This is my last time playing here unless I see some great reviews next season that mention that the course has addressed the issues. Just not worth the money. I play a lot of courses in the NY, NJ, CT, and even the MA area, for half the price of Centennial, that are better maintained, and are just better golf courses to play overall. Go elsewhere and save yourself a few bucks. I know the price tag on this place may lead you to believe you're getting a certain type of product, but you're not.
Greens a disaster - no money into course
Bones of course are still there but combo of greens littered with ball marks and under investment in club makes this a rip-off at $142/$135. Pace of play is crushed as you have to fix 4-6 ball marks for every putt. Multiple cart paths and stairs are destroyed, making for hazards going hole to hole. The course has also removed or left abandoned water coolers, which was brutal on a 90 degree day. If you live local and can regularly use the driving range, great, otherwise seek other options.
