you get pretty high on the tee box ... just not the same type of high when you were 16 lol...

Lots of hilly ups and downs. Some pretty tight fairways lots of bunkers and trees/woods lining the holes. Beautiful views are everywhere on this course. Would love to play here again.

Fun course in good shape. Greens were slow but rolled true, and tee boxes + fairways were well maintained. Pace of play was horrible, nearly 6-hours for a 2p tee time on Friday waiting on every hole… No ranger in sight.

Greens running great. Quicker than most public courses

Beautiful layout for the course. A lot of elevated tee shots which are fun. Course is kept in great shape. Greens could be a little quicker, but they run true. Overall a very good round will be back soon!

It had been quite a few years since I last played Patriot Hills. It’s not that I didn’t like it, but I thought there were some weird elevation holes and quirkiness similar to Hudson Hills in Westchester. After playing the course again yesterday my opinion has completely changed. When Hudson Hills was first opened it was the flagship course for the county, country club conditions, etc.. The downside was that some holes make no sense, others are beyond quirky and there are 2 par 5’s (one of which is well over 550 yards up a massive hill and you are forced to lay up with a hybrid and the other a 6-iron - based on my distance). The reason stated is due to wildlife guidelines, but you could’ve definitely designed it better. Plus pace is awful with a lot of hackers that play the wrong tees or just don’t have ability to manage the course. They also have no driving range and extremely small and limited post round facilities. Also conditions were much more pristine when handled by a golf course management company and a few years back the county took over.

The reason why I state all this is because I thought that of Patriot Hills as well, but it is really not the case - not even close. They have excellent and gorgeous facilities. Massive clubhouse. Locker rooms. Event/meeting rooms. Full restaurant bar with ample indoor and outdoor seating, driving range, incline sensing gps for quiet electric carts and more.

I went out as a single playing alone) which I don’t mind at all) as I’m getting back into the swing after a 1.5 year layoff due to injuries. I hate any round that’s over 4 hours and alone I like to play in 2, but that’s when I was at a country club, so I’ve tempered expectations accordingly. I caught up to 4 or 5 groups and all but one twosome insisted that I play through so not to have to skip a hole which was amazing since it was oppressively hot with horrible air quality. The fairways and greens were in immaculate shape. Unfortunately a majority of golfers/hackers regardless of ability have no etiquette or sense to put divots back, pour sand, rake bunkers or fix pitch marks, but I have to believe the grounds crew puts in the time to make everything right. The greens were smooth and fast. There was a good amount of water coolers on the course as well. I’d say mid-week is ideal and if you’re going to play on weekends make it early, although the town of Stony Point owns/runs the course so those residents and then those in Rockland get tee time preferences and pricing benefits.

Unfortunately I have an issue with getting dehydrated, sweating profusely and cramping up seriously since I had Covid. As I was finishing up round I started breathing heavy, my heart was racing, stomach pains and cramping. I was basically out of it. I called pro shop and 2 staff members met me with an suv within 90 seconds and asked if I needed to go to hospital. I knew it wasn’t that serious but they took all my stuff off the cart and took me to clubhouse. Multiple people brought me whatever I needed to feel better and let me take my time.

It also just so happens that I didn’t realize it but knew several employees which was even more helpful.

I can’t say enough and I may be missing some names but extra kudos to John Coe (who is also and awesome PGA Pro) & separately Allie and Mark from the bar/restaurant.

If this had happened in Hudson Hills I don’t even want to imagine it.

All in all this place is a gem and you just have to temper expectations when it comes to pace.

So many of the holes on this course would be considered signature holes on any other golf course. Absolutely amazing looks off the tee. Conditions were excellent, bunkers need significant work but everything else is phenomenal.

It’s a challenging course with lot of hills, but the fairways are fairly wide and most times open, forgiving. Greens are large and angled, and in great conditions. The views are just fantastic from all the tee boxes. The round took for us about 4:40, so not the fastest course, but had fun time and enjoyed all holes. We will come back to this course again !

Course played nice. Staff was friendly. Only issue was $6.00 for a hotdog at the 9th????
