Disappointing as greens unplayable
Have played the course 3 time’s but this morning it was very disappointing. The east course had all greens sanded and hollow cored , making them virtually unplayable.
It should have been advertised prior to booking of so would not have played and picked somewhere else
Also to charge €55 for When a course is in this shape and not make it clear at point of booking is really really poor .. feels a bit sneaky
Westworld
I had never played at Powerscourt before so I wasn't sure which course to play so I consulted Mr Kevin Markham. Well his book "Hooked" anyway. The west it was. Even though I had pre booked the west the dutiful lady in the pro shop said I could play either course & informed me that the west course was a little soft underfoot tha the east. Despite this I stuck to Mr Markham's word & headed for the first tee on the west. The 1st sets the tone for the day. Not too difficult off the tee but lengthy enough with a wonderfully shaped green. The 4th, 6th, 7th, 10th, 11th, 15th, 16th, 17th & 18th are the stand out holes and the rest have plenty of elevation change & clever bunkering to keep you on your toes. I really liked the 15th with the tall pines shaping the hole up to the highest point of the course then free wheeling from there all the way back to the clubhouse. The course condition was superb considering the amount of rainfall lately. Definitely a playable venue all year round. You will 3 putt here but it doesn't seem to hurt the same at Powerscourt. The stunning scenery must softeen the blow.
Great course
Played the west course again, seems to be easier to book on golfnow, course was in great condition and we enjoyed the round despite stormy weather.. Nice variety in the holes. Will definitely play again.
Hi Paudie, thanks for the review, glad you enjoyed your visit, hopefully we will see you again later in the year
Scenic Course
This is a lovely property that is worth visiting even if you don't golf. The two courses are very nice but the West course will definitely provide you with a great workout if you decide to walk it.
Great condition, great course & great views, well worth playing.
Fantastic golf course
A great golf course. Eveything is perfect a part from the 18th hole. The 18th green is poor. It should be moved.
Few things to improve the overall experience:
1. Add a bucket of water in the practice area to clean clubs
2. Add green speed in the clubhouse
3. This kind of place needs to have trackman available on the driving range
Excellent layout in lovely condition
Not the first time to have played the West course, but always very enjoyable. Great, if challenging, layout with various punishments for poor or wayward shots. Sand was well maintained in (the many) bunkers but recent rain made it extraordinarily heavy to get out of.Greens good but speeds varying. My playing companion went for a buggy which is not my usual choice but certainly left me a lot less tired than I would otherwise have been, it's a long and hilly course.
Powerscourt West
The west is an excellent course with stunning views of the Wicklow area and I highly recommend a visit
Trev
Having played the East course...I couldn't wait to play the west course. .and i wasn't disappointed. .the west is tough but some fabulous holes ..
Maybe I might get back someday to play it again. .
Great day out
We had a great round on the west course. The layout and design of the holes is fantastic and the views are incredible. We stayed for some food after but could have eaten it twice we were that hungry though the food itself was very tasty. Over food we discussed returning so it definitely comes with our recommendation.
Thank you for your review, we are delighted to hear you enjoyed your visit and hopefully we will see you again soon!
Great course
Excellent course in really good condition. Will definitely play it again.
Thank you, glad to hear you enjoyed your visit and hopefully we will see you again soon!
Lovely golf course spoiled by overbooking
Played here yesterday, lovely golf course unfortunately they had corporate event on, took 3 hours for 10 holes then walked off. Course(s) were overbooked, we were waiting 10 minutes on each teebox !. Disappointed as played both powerscourt course several times and queuing took away from what is a fantastic venue
Powerscourt West Course
Really well designed layout offering challenging holes that offer immense enjoyment once completed from 1 to 18. Enjoyable for all levels of golfer. Can’t wait to play again.
Well layed out, enjoyable to play
Lovely variety of holes. Not too challenging although you need luck to find your ball in the rough, it's quite long. Fairways reasonably wide though so it takes a poor shot to find the rough. Greens fast and very difficult to read. Grain on greens affected pace massively. Difficult to hold greens on approach. Lots of slopes. A fair and enjoyable challenge.
outstanding course and while a little wet played fair and enjoyment levels were high.
Wonderful Outing
Approaching the course we knew that we were in for a treat. The scenery was spectacular with the Wicklow Mountains forming the backdrop to the mature parkland course. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The course wound it’s way through undulations countryside draped in magnificent oak and beech trees before finishing up overlooking Powerscort House Hotel with the Sugarloaf mountain behind. Beautiful day out.
My favourite course in Dublin!
I've had the chance to play some very nice courses in the area but Powerscourt is on top of the list. For my level handicap (13) it is challenging but not overly so. The pace of play has always been perfect and the beauty of the course/surroundings is stunning.
Highly recommend giving it a go!
In great condition even after the recent storms. A good and fair test of golf for all levels.
Thanks for the review, glad you enjoyed your visit! Look out for our new bank holiday open competitions coming up this year too!
