Course needs some work
Glad we got a Hot Deal because if we had paid the regular price I would have been really disappointed. The course is in terrible shape. Basically a dust bowl.
Reason for optimism
Indian Hills is an example of a municipal golf course that has suffered from a mix of benign neglect and underwhelming management over the years. The layout - originally be classic master Herbert Strong - has changed for the worse over the years and course conditions leave plenty too be desired.
That said, new head pros with private-club experience are intent on getting Indian Hills back on track. One thing going for the course is that it's on a wonderfully hilly, sandy piece of property, so it drains better than just about any course in the state. If the conditions can be brought back up to snuff and some tree clearing can be done (though a more comprehensive renovation would be ideal), Indian Hills will be a particularly reliable option for locals. A clubhouse that isn't a double-wide trailer would also help...
Old Design Layout
The lack of rain and not irrigating the fairways created rock hard landing areas and tremendous distances off the tees. Even without such dry conditions the course is fairly easy with only a few water hazards (which with exception of one tee shot were not in play) and although there were many sand traps, most were not if front of the greens which with the dry conditions allowed a ball to run up to the greens from almost anywhere on the fairway. The staff were quite friendly and courteous and although we had some dislikes about the course we would like to play it again after the dry spell ends and the fairways are lush once more.
Played as a single that wanted to be paired up with others.
The starter got me out with others that where very nice to play with.
Great Course
First time I played this course, was paired up with a couple gentlemen that have played course quite a bit so we’re able to pass on a few tips that saved me a time or two. Loved the course it was in good shape greens are fast and true. Can’t wait to play again.
Course in fair condition
OK course for the money, course in only fair shape. They don't water and some of the greens in improvement
Decent place but pace of play too slow
Played in February, fairways and greens very firm lots of roll. Fairways a bit narrow and greens generally were small, though most easy to putt not much break and rolled fairly well. People were friendly. Pace of play very slow on Sunday afternoon 4 1/2 hour round. No ranger to keep people moving. Course not too long, played from white tees about 5,800 yards we should have been done less than 4 hours.
Some Good layout; could improve conditions
Layout ok. Conditions average. Pace of play ok. Staff friendly. Ranger comes around to keep up pace of play. Sand in bunkers pretty good. Green condition good.
Some holes challenging; some less.
great course for an average golfer
The course is fairly open allowing for errant shots that are easy to recover from. The greens are fairly bunkered and the sand is consistent in texture throughout. A good value.
Ok course
Not a bad course but nothing special, course was crowded but the pace was good and the price was great. Will play again.
