Oh those greens !
MONTGOMERY COURSE
We were led to believe that the Monty course was considerably harder than the O'Mera. It played tough on / around the greens !! VERY TOUGH. The layout is pretty open, and errant drives are not punished as bad as the other courses we played in Dublin (st Annes / Portmarnock Golf and Links), but the greens are VERY difficult, id your short game and putting is below standard, you will be punished, lots and lots of run off's, and most greens were saucer configuration, and pins around the edges (and most were!), were a real test of both line and pace !
Bunkers were deep but properly sanded and fair.
3rd is a great par 3 as is 17th. 11th ( index 2) is a really great hole
Golf staff were generally very good.
Over Rated Course
For the price you pay, this course is definitely not worth it. I don't understand why people favour inland links inspired courses. I true links should be beside the sea. Getting Montgomery to design a course for Carton was a bad idea in my opinion. He was always going to favour a links inspired course being from Scotland. The conditions of the course were great but the holes were incredibly boring. I've played a lot of links course with spectacular holes here and there. This course only had two notable holes, the first and the last holes. Palmerstown Stud is a much better option for a round of golf in Kildare.
Super course
Lovely course and setting. Challenging but very fair to the aul miscue!
Rain didn’t let up for 5 mins and we didn’t want it to end!
Very impressed
Greens in super condition course well maintained. Some excellent holes and 14-16 were very picturesque. Will play again.
