Avoid the bunkers!
Course in good condition. Bunkers everywhere and tough to get out of. Hard to avoid them. Not many memorable holes. Most of them seemed to merge into each other. Long walk to and from first and last holes so give yourself plenty of time to get to the tee. Staff helpful in offering earlier tee time.
top class course
My first time playing here but it won't be the last, really enjoyed the golf and the whole experience. This is fantastic course and i highly recommend it. My friends and I had a great day. We will definitely be back.
Montgomery Course is a challenge for any golfer
Difficult but enjoyable course. Bunkers are very challenging.
Definitely worth the extra spend over the average pay and play courses. Staff were very friendly and they ensured that the pace of play was good.
Course was not too crowded and we were able to book a tee time less than 24 hours in advance.
O meara,
a lovely course, bit wet even after some good weather. Good test as quiet long. Greens in good condition, rough was wet and ball picking up mud, over all enjoyed it.
2nd attempt deemed a must
The truth of it all is that I am really not able to rate this course in a serious manner.
I arrived late as neither my GPS (fairly new actually and rather expensive) or Google Maps could find the course an consequently didn't really have time to go to the range which is a little far away. However, the nice lady at the check-in counter ensured me that I didn't need to stick to my tee time. Given the weather conditions (gale winds and pouring down in truck loads) I was likely to be the sole player on the course. Naturally that made me think, but then again... my green fee was prepaid and non refundable.
End of the story is that after having been to the practice range and played the first two holes I was soaked to the bones despite wearing state of the art rain gear. At the end of fourth hole my teeth were clattering and by the green on fifth I had to throw in the towel.
Anyway, from what I managed to see and play the course appears too be fantastic and despite the over abundance of bunkers the design appears always to leave you an option for an alternative approach.
Club house and service - impeccable.
an absolute must play
a fantastic golf experience. used as a treat for me and a friend. was a great day out all round. stay out of the bunkers though
Great course!
Great course and in great condition! A must play when in Dublin!!
Montgomery course.
Excellent course heavily bunkerd so accuracy paramount. Would highly recommend.
Great course
Great course excellent condition staff very helpful
Monty Was Magnificent
Played both O'Meara and Montgomerie on the same day. The latter trumps the former, which is why it was the venue for the Irish Open. Mastering Monty is all about staying out of the fairway bunkers. They are a factor in almost every shot. The green side bunkers are immaculately maintained and very deep. This is what distinguishes Monty from O'Meara. Hit an errant shot and there is a penalty. Monty's greens are large, subtle but very fair and true. Very useful to play with a local. Even with GPS and a yardage book, knowing what to shoot at and what to avoid is not always apparent. A wonderful course; put it on your play list for Ireland.

The course is really challenging. It is the wonderful
Parkland course, really enjoyable
golf at carton house
great course will play again ,great value, stay out of the bunkers-practice area with free ball a bonus
Good course- bad yardage markings
Overall a nice course
Very poor marking of yardage all around the course and had to guess yards a few times as there was none around which was frustrating.
Greens in ok conditions
Fairways seem to have a problem with burrowing animals, ball went into one of these holes on 3 different fairways
All good.....
The course, the grounds, the hotel all good...
Some bunkers could do with more sand but overall this is a very tidy well thought out course of which we look forward to playing again.
O'Meara course
Great day, early tee time booking = best value, would definitely recommend to all standard of golfers as a good challenge and a most enjoyable walk.
dull, open fields mostly, but some exceptional holes.
surprisingly wet, thin cover around the greens, makes
chipping difficult.
Excellent layout with punishing traps
I found the Monty to be a demanding but enjoyable test of golf. Lots of bunkering make most of the tee shots challenging and the cost of finding the traps meant advancing your second shot only far enough as to almost definitely ensure bogey.mostly elevated greens require good approach shots and I was very impressed with the short surfaces and all the really subtle breaks that turned my normally guaranteed 2 putts into 3.wonderful golf course
review
Nice, overrated compared to some courses where fees are less like castleknock. No real obstacles except for the bunkers.
How the mighty have fallen
This course was in very poor condition. Divots all over the place, old divots not filled in - add to that a lot of mucky conditions following inclement weather.
The greens also seemed to have a disease as there were round patches on many of them.
My group of 4 would have been furious had they paid more than €30. Even at that price it was very poor value.
