Deer Valley Golf Course
About
Deer Valley Golf Course in Hummelstown boasts one of the most affordable rounds you'll find in the Hershey/Harrisburg area. Since opening in 2005, more than 850 trees have been added and it has matured into a course favored by both visitors and locals. The layout features large, elevated greens and massive multi-tiered tees. From the golf course's peaks, the views stretch all the way to Hershey and the Blue Mountains. The winding layout twists and turns, doglegging left and right. It's a challenging layout round despite the absence of sand bunkers. There is however, thick rough and a number of grass bunkers to watch out for. Water only makes a brief appearance. Deer Valley Golf Course isn't overly challenging but for a fun and fair test, it's an affordable option that also offers some beautiful scenery.

Windy Day
The course was in good condition and in spite of the gusting wind at times if was pretty much free of leaves.
Gem
This course was in great shape and far from the beatin path. Greens were in good shape. The course has a few challenging holes that will test your skill, no matter the level. I will be going back to this course for sure.
Great Course
Considering how dry it's been this summer I thought the course was in super shape and was definitely greener than other courses I've played recently.
If you aren't hitting them down the fairways and you're a slicer like me plan to be either in the trees or out of bounds.
Some of the greens are tough.
Greedy
Try to take a 10 yr old to play nine holes and to be considerate to other players we show up around 7pm. We were told that they can't let us out due to double stacking all the tees for there leagues every evening and running a shotgun format. Having played here several times I know this is a 3 hour nine holes of boredom. So we stopped back on a weekend around 730pm again and was told that it will cost full rate for both of us. 10 ur old will probably golf for the next 60 years and I doubt he will ever play this course. Rude and greedy.
Deer Valley
We had an enjoyable round of golf at Deer Valley.
grass bunkers
Only course I've played in our area over the last few weeks with NO burned out fairways or greens. Greens very soft and receptive.
Great day
To my surprise the course was in excellent condition. Pace of play is real slow and it seemed no one cared. Played front 9 in about 1hr.30 mins different story on the back 2hr. 30mins.
Deer Valley
Only disappointment is that there is no water to drink except for two spots where you can buy bottled water
No Sand
No sand bunkers. This would add greatly to the course.
Wide open course in great shape!
This course is fairly wide open on most holes. Fairways are mowed at a reasonable height and are in great shape. The greens are about average to moderately slow on the speed category. The one main defense that this course has is that the approaches to the greens are not typical. The surrounding grass is fairly thick thus, eliminating most bump and run type shots on to the putting surface. This means you must fly the ball on to most of the greens. Many amateur golfers do not posses this skill. The greens are fairly large so that helps. All told, fun was had by all.
Greens need work
Need a Marshall out to manage the pace of play as a threesome ahead of us was not keeping up with a foursome ahead of them. No excuse to wait as a twosome for three that will not let you play through and they knew better too. A Marshall is needed and they need to seriously improve the greens. The owner said something about having just rolled the greens. The old hole markers on most holes are in rough shape and the players there need to repair their ball marks on the greens. It is a fun layout when the round does not take forever.
great condition for NOV
We live in Md and travel to Pa every weekend. The people are nicer and the courses let you know they appreciate you coming there, especially places like Deer Valley
Deer Valley - New
Fairley open, good course conditions, have to hit a good tee shot on most holes. no lunch, just hotdogs. great senior ride rate, new course that needs trees to grow up to make it nicer later. Yes have to fix lots of divots & ball marks from lazy golfers.
Condition of Greens
The greens were very slow and a lot of ball marks. The golfer all need to check their divots and fix them if needed.
Every green had a few divots that were not repaired.
Can't wait to play it again!
Always have tough pin placement!
Always in NICE playing condition!
Nice layout!
Can't wait to play it again!
Not Worth the Price
I'm an avid golfer and only live a few miles from this place, but I've only played here a few times. I decided to give it another shot yesterday. If you are a 10 handicap or lower...you will find this course very easy. The greens are fuzzy and slow. Pace of play was slow, probably because there are a few Par 4's that are driveable. I don't want to be too hard on the course because it isn't bad. If you don't play that much golf...this course is just fine. They don't have any tees longer than white, so it is a very short course. My biggest complaint is the value for the money. If the greens were shaved...it would be much more fun and be a little more challenging.
Frustrating Course Rule!
Booked a 4:30pm Tee Time and at 8:00pm, with three holes to play we were asked to move directly to 18 as 8:00pm is the "magic" hour for getting off the course. Our group of 4 was keeping good pace, despite having a very slow golf cart and a group in front of us. We were well within the USGA recommended pace of play. All said, we finished our last three holes and were back at the clubhouse at 8:32pm. We play a number of the local (public and private) courses and have never been told to get off a course with an hour of daylight remaining. Sad that an otherwise enjoyable course has such a ridiculous rule. I advise against booking tee times later than 4:00pm if the course's 8 pm rule is legitimate and not one set by staff in an attempt to get home early.
