Coyote Preserve Golf Club
About
Coyote Preserve Golf Club in Fenton is one of the only courses in the area designed by Arnold Palmer. The course has a hilly terrain that provides plenty of elevation changes a well as stunning views. Tumbling across deep ravines and native wetlands, the layout requires many carries over dramatic depressions and water hazards but many are seemingly intimidating but actually quite reasonable. Massive, finely sculpted bunkers strategically frame the greensides of many holes. While some of them are manageable, others are deep and sod-faced. The tricky hazards in conjunction with the dramatic elevations demand both accuracy and creative shot-making. The golf course has a memorable finish with a par-5, risk-reward hole. There is ample room off the tee on this downhill, dogleg left hole and it presents a few different options for the second shot. With some thought, scoring par is definitely a possibility.

Great course
The course was in great shape, greens are fast. Lots of bunkers plenty of hills. Bring your best fame or this course can really beat you up. Had a great time will play again.
very nice course
This course is very nice , the layout is very challenging
Nice
Played Friday morning early got great senior rate and course was in great shape even though little rainfall lately. Greens were rolled and were running true. One of the best public courses in SE Michigan
Excellent conditions for the area
one of the best conditioned courses in the area. Great manicured fairways. Front nine is spectacular with back not far behind. Definitely an up north feel. Tremendous value for what you get.
Very nice course
I had read several reviews from people stating how hard the course is. I also teed off behind a group of guys hitting their drives 200 yards from the blue tees. It's lack of intelligence that wrecks the pace of play and course management.
The course was in great shape. I played from the white tees as that's a yardage that suits my game. Really enjoyed the layout of the course. Very picturesque on several holes. Had an Up North feel. Got it for $39 and it was TOTALLY worth that!
I've played many, many courses around Michigan and this was a great value.
Great layout. Terrible greens
I'm a 5 handicap and this course is a great challenge from the tips. The layout is probably one of the best I've ever played. With that said the greens have weeds on them. Best layout with worst greens
Worth the drive
An earlier review suggested you need your A game and that is very accurate if you want to challenge your handicap.
I think the course is an excellent place to test your true handicap no matter what it may be. The fairways are wide enough
So you can be in the hole from the get go. And from there the challenge is to manage the slop and elevation. At every tee we thought "wow" how are we going to manage this one. The greens were very true and a little hard to read because the inconsistency in the color (patches of light green and dark green). But I guess that just adds to the challenge. We drove one hour to get to the course and hope to play there a few more times this summer. It really is an up north course in our back yard.
Brianruster,

Nice course. Would play again. Very challenging. Greens will be better but still good for this time of year, considering the weather.

Very challenging
I don't know why but I have been on the verge of good rounds here before. Every time I fall apart on the last 3-4 holes. The course is challenging and I love it for that. It is a great course to play. You just have to be on your "A" game to shoot low here. Low 90s are possible all day long but low 80s I find challenging to achieve.
What was Arnie thinking?
A blind tee shot on the 1st hole? This is a great layout with with generous fairways and lots of risk/reward opportunities. It will help you with your bunker practice if you're careless. The greens were excellent and the course in general as in great shape. Lots of elevation changes and great views.
Thank you for your review and for playing at Coyote Preserve Golf Club! We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the conditions of the course and great views. We hope you come back to see us again!

Great Test of Golf
Beautiful golf course, great conditions will test every part of your game. Gives you every a chance to hit every shot in your bag at some point in your round. First time playing the course, will definitely approach many holes differently next time, can't wait to play it again.
Hi Maurice,
Thank you for playing at Coyote Preserve! It's great to hear that you enjoyed both the conditions and the challenge of the course. We love hearing that you'll be back, we look forward to seeing you again!
This course is a beast!
I've played this course at least 10 times (probably more) and, I must say, this is among the most difficult courses in southeast Michigan.
Holes 16 and 17 are the golf equivalent of a turn-of-the-century root canal. Don't get me wrong, they are beautiful golf holes. They are, however, designed for single-digit handicappers.
The best part of the Preserve is the land. They have a beautiful piece of property comparable to Shepherd's Hollow or Devil's Ridge. Great elevation changes and marsh areas.
Their bunkers need work, but overall the course is in pretty good shape. The 18th is a fun risk/reward par 5.
Thank you Flint for being such a loyal customer! We are happy to hear that you enjoy the challenge and the beauty of the course. We can't wait to see you again!
Great course, great deal
$26 for 18 holes at this course is a steal. Closest thing to "up north" golf in the area
Hi Conor, We are so happy that you enjoyed playing at Coyote Preserve! We hope to see you again soon.
Very Worth the Drive
The hour drive was completely worth it, the views from the course are beautiful! The pace was a little slow but we weren't in a rush so just set back and relaxed! Good tee shots are a MUST here which is nice! The risk reward of this course is great!
Thank you for your great comments! We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed the beautiful views here at Coyote Preserve Golf Club. We hope to have you back soon!
8/21/2015 tee time 2:30pm
Was very disappointed there was no mention of a tourny golf event going on at the course when i paid for my round on Golfing.com. We arrived at the course only to be told of the event and was not able to play 18 holes that day. Very disappointed to drive all the way 45 minutes only to turn back home. Golfnow.com needs to do a better job of communication with their golf courses in order to keep their customers updated. I should be reimbursed for my payment as the golf course would not give me a refund or rain check
Thank you for your review. We apologize about your sub-par experience. Please e-mail us at CoyotePreserveGC@Gmail.com if you wish to further discuss. We truly hope you decide to give us another chance at meeting your expectations.
Patrons need to fix ball marks on greens
Course was nice, greens were in poor shape no one fixed any ball marks, sand could be groomed
Pro shop and bar could use some stock very little options
We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the course. We apologize for the ball marks and hope that you will try us again soon!
This corse is fun to play
Had not played the course for 5 years. Next time will play from the gold tees, age has caught up, but, it was still fun too play.
Hi Loue,
Thank you for playing Coyote Preserve! We are happy to hear that you still enjoyed course, five years later. We hope to see you again soon!
Interesting course
The layout was interesting in that it was easy with wide fairways on some holes and extremely narrow and complex on others. I have seen this with other name designers before and the management can not be faulted for it.
What I take exception to was the pin placement on several holes. It seemed that the lower handicap holes offered the most difficult placement. #16 is a challenging par 5 with a visually intimidating first shot landing area and a blind second shot. The third shot is over a well bunkered hazard to a very shallow green. The green itself is very atypical of the other greens on the course. Once again this is the designer in action and not the course management. However the placement of the pin was one of the worse I have ever seen. Normal golfers would struggle to get to this green in 3 (par 5) and then to be faced with the most difficult placement possible. There was lots of area available for rotation so I can only speculate that the placement was either poor attention or insensitivity to the customers. Thursday golf should be regular and tournament level.
As far as maintenance is concerned, the greens were very slow and so they required very firm puts with negated much of the normal break one would read into them. I liked the course and would consider playing there again if the course management would respond to my critique with an explanation.
