About
Situated just a few minutes from Muskegon, Stonegate Golf Club in Stone Lake sprawls across gently rolling hills that are surrounded by the beauty of the Manistee National Forest. The undulating terrain provides dramatic elevation changes that can give you a different round every time you play. Although there are residences bordering the golf course, it still feels completely secluded thanks to the sheltering trees and pristine natural setting that is accented with marshes and ponds. The golf course has a variety of greens, most are slightly raised and some are open in front while others have slopes and bunkers protecting them. The putting surfaces roll true with only a few mild undulations. Stonegate's fairways can be tricky since they’re lined with mature pines and hardwoods and more often than not you’ll find one or more bunkers guarding the most opportune landing areas.

Nice course, bad scheduling.
No one in our foursome had played Stonegate before and we had high expectations. The course layout and condition were mostly excellent. The one negative is that it felt like we were the only foursome on the course and we continually had to let twosomes play through. We do not mind an occasional twosome to pass, but it felt like it was happening on almost every other hole. That could be easily resolved by combining twosomes on the course.
Overall, the course is great and we will likely be back.
Impressed! Nice challenge, great shape, friendly crew
My wife and I recently played Stonegate for the first time and we will definetly be back…often. What a hidden gem. The course was a chaleenge, but hated out nice. Just wish other golfer had the courtesy to repair a ball mark or two!
Hidden Gem
Played here twice in the past few weeks. Phenomenal conditions, greens were fast but receptive. Absolutely love the layout. Lots of private holes. Can’t believe I’ve never played here until this summer. Will be back for sure!
Need to be a semi-pro to play here now
It’s been a few years since I’ve played this course so the four of us booked a tee time. Several of us are decent players, this was my first time out this year and the last member was an okay player. Seemed like if you weren’t hitting par each hole then you were considered to be not keeping up. This made for a poor experience for us since we are not at that level of play and didn’t expect that we had to be for this course.
Stonegate
Great course - staff - everything really.
One of our favorite courses in the West Michigan region.
Top Notch
Well-cared-for grounds, friendly and welcoming staff, and a sprawling, enjoyable course. Even the food at the turn was great! We played here over the holiday with my sons and nephew and had a fantastic experience. Highly recommend!
As advertised!
I’ve been wanting to play this course for three years and today was the day that me and my golf partner had a chance to play it. I recently read that Stonegate is in the top 25 in the U.S. for course conditions and I’ll say that it’s spot on with that rating. The conditions were OUTSTANDING!!! The course is definitely a 4.5/5.0 stars and I feel like I know a thing or two about golf course because I’ve played over 300 courses across the United States. I’ll definitely play Stonegate again soon. Kudos to the course Superintendent and the entire grounds crew.
Great course
Always enjoy playing here. Great layout and in perfect shape
Hidden gem
Always a pleasure to play here. The course is beautiful the greens roll fast and true
Always a good round
Course is in good shape, greens were hood tee boxes in good shape, carts were great. Always agreat place to play.
One of the best in West Michigan
So much more character than the meadows and if you catch a deal on GolfNow like we did, it’s fairly reasonable beautifully laid out amongst many homes, but very quiet. Of course, an excellent shape all the way around nothing to knock at all. I actually do not like having GPS which they do not have anyway so if you’ve never played this course, give it a shot. It’s fantastic. Probably one of the best along Lakeshore, if not the best public course.
