Bridges - The Tradition at Firewheel Golf of Garland
About
The Bridges at Firewheel Golf Park is a 27-hole layout that has been a regular host of U.S. Open and U.S. Amateur qualifying tournaments. The course is comprised of three nines that can be played in different 18-hole combinations. The Tradition nine is the shortest of the three at just over 3,200 yards from the back tees. What it lacks in length, it makes up for with the rolling terrain. Golfers will face tricky uneven lies in addition to strategically placed bunkers and towering oak and pecan trees. There are also two creeks that crisscross through the entire golf course. They come into play on several holes. Not only does the Bridges provide three 18-hole courses, there is also Firewheel's original 18-hole Old Course, which was followed soon after by the 18-hole Lakes Course.

Greens
Overall course was fine, lots of excess grass from mowers on tee boxes and fairways. I’m not sure if there is that many new golfers out there or if the greens keeper needs to be fired but the greens were a nightmare. I have never in my life seen so many ballmarks and divots on a green before but it’s clear no one if fixing theirs. My foursome tried to each fix 5 every green but it was still trash. Fairways were fine and beer was cold
Good
The course is in good shape the greens are a little slow but over all it’s in good shape. They still have strict COVID-19 but that’s to be expected. My phone only gripe is directed at the players and NOT the staff. People please please please repair your ball marks. It’s part of being a responsible player fix those marks that your ball makes.
Overall
Over the yrs, played here a lot. Fairways are plush, greens in great condition but a little hairy. Bent greens in Texas is a crap shoot to say the least, but these are in great shape, just slow.
The layout is great, love playing here
Beautiful Day
This Golf Course was in wonderful condition!! The greens were a bit slow but that’s the way I like them!! Great staff it would have been nice to have a beverage cart but due to COVID that didn’t happen. It was a great experience and we will be returning in the future for sure
Greens cost me 10 strokes
Greens are like nice fairways at all the tpc courses I’ve played in my life time. In order for you to get any put form more than 15 ft to the hole you had to hit the putt extremely hard. Which causes one to go off target most of the time. . Was super bumpy as well. My advice would be to cut them down and roll them so people will enjoy hitting the green. Didn’t enjoy the round at all.
Pleasantville
So we played the Championship and Masters today. The course condition was great. Really enjoyed the condition of the greens. Haven't been out here lately but like playing here. The price can be a bit high at times, but I guess they get enough play to warrant the fees. Is there anything that I would change? Well, not being able to get a cart until 15 min prior to teeing off was a little inconvenient. Wonder if they would also have any way to allow playing the third nine for an extra fee. Think having a 27 hole outing would be pretty great. Otherwise a very pleasant experience..
Course in great shape.
Nice challenging layout. Course must drain great. Surprised how dry the fairways were after an all day/night rain the day before.
First timer at Firewheel.
First visit to Firewheel today. Super fun course. We played Champions and Masters. Super friendly staff, course was in good condition. Greens looked great. Pace of play was good. We were paired up with another twosome. Will definitely be going back and highly recommend this course for anyone looking to play.
Poor condition
Played Champions/Tradition. Fairways on Champion good, but greens in poor shape. Tradition both fairways Nd greens in poor shape.
Good Course!!
Really nice course! Value for money! Greens were slow and punched. But wasn’t bad at all.
Great staff.
Awesome staff great pace of play. Greens are a bit of a challenge as they seem to be dead in multiple spots. Overall played great but greens make me what to find other courses.
Disappointed But Wish I Hadn't Been
I had not played this course in awhile and was looking forward to it. The Pro Shop staff was super friendly, the range balls were new, the grill staff and burger were great, and the weather was perfect but then.......
Went to putting green to putt a few before the round and realized it was aerated and was in poor shape. Turns out it that it was in the best shape of any green on the front nine. Ugh. I seem to recall in the past that GolfNow and/or the course would provide a heads up before booking a tee time. At least the back nine greens were in good shape.
Well, at least the pace of play was good....NOT!!!
Was the slowest round I have played in years. Waited on every single shot with nary a marshal in sight. I realize it was Saturday afternoon at a public course but the groups in front of us played slow enough to have groups stacked up 3 deep on the tee boxes.
Honestly, I had hoped to leave a more positive report and hope that GolfNow and the course report the aerated greens in the future. As for the pace of play, I recognize that a city owned course works on a shoestring budget but it might worthwhile to utilize a senior to at least drive around the course and ask groups to speed along if they become 3 or 4 holes behind over the course of nine holes.
