Lakes at Firewheel Golf Park
About
The Lakes Course at Firewheel is a links-style course that is loaded with water, and was a Dick Phelps creation on his return to Garland in 1987. Hole 7 is the most difficult–a long 549-yard par 5 that requires an approach over a pond.
Getting there : From Dallas, take Hwy. 75 north and exit Arapaho. Turn right and when you come to N. Garland Ave., turn left. Drive to W. Blackburn Rd. and turn west. The course is just down the road.

Swamps Around the Greens
I play this course at least three or four times per month, and I enjoy the challenge. But the last couple of times out, much of the fun has been taken away by the areas in front of and around nearly all of the greens have been subjected to excessive (in my opinion) irrigation. I realize the heat this year is higher than average, and we have had nearly zero rain for over a month, but greens can be kept healthy in such conditions without turning their surroundings into literal mud holes. Very disappointing.
Decent
Always value for the money, loved having ice water on so many holes. Please have a car person driving around selling drink, snacks, and food next time thanks!
Great Track
A challenging layout and course conditions are the best I've ever seen, especially the greens. They're rolling true and consistent, which is rare for this time of year with temps at +100 everyday. They're doing a great job of keeping this course in top shape!
Lakes July 36
Greens were recently punched and still recovering. Courses should be required to mention this or provide a disclaimer when booking.
Lots of golfers, slow pace but not terrible.
Course is in great shape
Course is in great shape. Tee box to green was great. Greens are a bit firm but expected for Texas greens. They need more cart staff to help out with the number of golfers on the course. There were a few bare spots but nothing to really complain about. Only complaint is the bunkers need to be raked prior to play. Pace of play was good. Great value!
Lakes Course
Positive experience overall, great track and friendly staff. We were just hoping to have visits from cart staff for snacks, food and drinks. We had plenty of money to spend, since no one stopped by, we went to a local restaurant/bar and ran up a tab there, sorry…
The greens and tee boxes need some TLC.
Fun layout with gorgeous par 5’s, but nearly all of the greens have patches of sand and mud riddled throughout.
Highly recommend
This is a great course! We played right after a rain storm and it had only stopped raining an hour prior to our tee time. The run off is so great on this course that there was virtually no standing water on any fairway. The fairways and green are in good shape with only a few bare spots. I will be back for sure!
