Bridges - The Champion at Firewheel Golf of Garland
About
Firewheel Golf Park in Garland is home to the 27-hole Bridges Course, which is comprised of three nines that are played in different 18-hole combinations. Opened in 2001, the course has been host to several U.S. Open and U.S. Amateur events. The nines offer plenty of variety, each utilizing the tree-covered rolling terrain in different ways. The Champion nine is the second longest nine. It features large putting surfaces and sculpted fairways lined with mature oak and pecan trees. You'll run into a fair amount of strategically placed bunkers on this nine. The Rowlett and Spring Creek meander through the entire layout, coming into play on several holes. In addition to the three 18-hole golf courses provided by the Bridges, there are also the two other 18-hole courses at Firewheel, the original Old Course and the Lakes Course.

Fun round in August - who knew?
PLayed on a near perfect 72 degree morning. Bengrass greens were a little fuzzy, which they kind of have to be in the heat of summer. Bermudagrass in good shape, bunkers were playable, and rest of the course in fair condition. We did play at 7am, which meant we had dew, recently mowed fairways, and chased the grounds crew all morning. 3 hour round is awesome. I still wish courses could find some way to offer water.... it's why I can't play much right now. Covid rules suck.
Great Course
This course was in excellent shape. It hasn't rained hard in a couple weeks and the greens on this course are in phenomenal shape.
Awesome Course
Course was in really good shape Champions/Tradition 9s we’re both very nice and greens were very soft and receptive. Played in 3 and a half hours which was great, nice outing will be back.
Good track
Great layout. Back nine greens are poorly maintained bent grass suffering Summers Heat.
Poor
Do not let them put you on the masters course. It is in terrible condition. Greens were in terrible shape. This management should be fired. A beautiful course has been destroyed.
Better than expected
My son and I played on a Sunday and really didn't expect much other than a full parking lot, rushed staff and slow play. I could have been more wrong!! Though the parking lot was full the staff were very friendly and welcoming, eager to help the two of us on our first visit to the Bridges course. The routing was amazing, far better than other courses we've played in Garland and we're eager to return and play the full 27, hopefully when it's a bit cooler. Pace of play was perfect, we never had to wait on a tee or feel rushed by the group behind us. Firewheel Golf Park has the best value for your money
Fun course to play
We played 2 nine hole courses and the 2nd nine holes were a bit different being back in a more wooded area. The greens seems to need a little work on the masters nine hole course but over 4/5 stars. Very fun to play with some good views!
Greens are awful
Tee boxes and fairways were in okay shape. Course was not too hard and there weren’t many holes that make you really think too hard at all.
The greens were awful, however. This is one of the only places in Dallas where they attempt to upkeep bent grass greens and that’s a bad decision on a muni course budget. They’re extremely slow, nobody repairs their pitch marks, and some of the greens are not doing so well in the heat of Dallas. Spike marks toss your ball way offline, if you don’t hit one of the numerous pitch marks to send it even further offline. Played a few days ago at pecan hollow, greens were quick and true. JUST USE BERMUDA AND DONT BE GIMMICKY. Bent grass is a terrible idea in Dallas so I’m not sure why they even tried.
Pace of play was poor. Starter did a good job but nobody in my group played quickly, and neither did the group in front.
If you need to play at firewheel, play at the lakes course. But otherwise play at pecan hollow for the same price if not cheaper for a much better experience.
Tee sheet etiquette
Been to this course 3 times now on the golf now HOT DEALS...... every time I go to this course there sending me out as a single when the Hot deal is clearly a foursome, don’t know what’s going on in the shop , the sole purpose of golf now is to be able to play with all skill levels & walks of life. Never should a customer dictate who there going to play with especially with golf now. The bridges staff needs to do better
