New Albany Links Golf Club
About
New Albany Links Golf Club sprawls across gently rolling hills covered with meandering creeks, mature trees, and native grasses and wetlands. There are also a number of lakes throughout that come into play on several holes. The golf course is a fair challenge but it prides itself on its playability. With tees ranging between 4,800 and 7,000 yards, the course accommodates a range of different skill levels. The layout features tree-lined fairways and strategically placed bunkers throughout. New Albany Links Golf Club's 12th hole is one of the course's most memorable. It requires a long drive and an approach that carries past a long bunker and a pond to a narrow green. To the left is certain punishment but a tough up and down waits if you miss right.

Too slow
Course is in very good shape.
Unfortunately, the pace of play was so slow, that I chose to end my round after 11 holes. Those 11 holes took about 3 1/2 hours. I don't know if was all attributable to slow players or if the course was overbooked that day, but it took way too long to play.
Will play again, but start earlier to give myself plenty of time.
The homes landscaping were more impressive
Seemed like the course only had enough gardeners to keep up with mowing. The sand traps were full of rocks , some had no sand . The lakes and borders were not maintained. The greens could be in far better shape but still playable. Sad to see this course could not stand out against a city course.
2nd time playing
I enjoyed the course - bunkers were not as well maintained on back 9 but overall course condition for significant rain was pretty good.
Fun Course
This course is alot of fun but challenging. Every hole you have bunkers or water hazards that come into play. The greens are heavily protected. The course conditions were great. The sand traps were playable for the most part. We did get rained on a little bit but nothing to stop play. This has become one of my favorite places to play.
Good couse
Course it was good to have been clean and maintenance. In addition, staff is also good, I was able to comfortably play.
Very good...but not what it used to be
Played yesterday afternoon on a Hotdeal. Clubhouse/Pub is awesome. Staff was very friendly. Course was nice minus a few unraked bunkers. Carts had a few problems, broken windshields on more than a few. The golf was great but very slow. 2 hours 5 minutes first 9 and 3+ hours on the back with no Rangers. I would play here again but book a 6am tee time rather than afternoon.
One of my fave courses
After over a day of torrential rain, we played here. It was cart path only because of some standing water but they were working diligently on bunkers and mowing to recover from the storms. The course is always in great shape. Greens are impeccable. Fast and true. I highly recommend playing here. You will want to return. Cheers.
Nice layout, great deal from GolfNow.
This is the first time I've played there this year, however the course was in nice shape. The bunkers were a little rough since there have been 3+ inches of rain the last couple days. It was Father's Day in the late afternoon so the number of golfers were less. It took 3 hours for 18 holes with cart path only and got a great rate of $23 from GolfNow. I will definitely play there more in the future.
Work in progress...
New Albany links is still a course in transition. Coming off a very seasonable spring where there should have been ample opportunity to whip things into shape, the course was in pretty rough shape. Lots of "ground under repair" that it was clearly evident that no repairs were underway. Bunker condition was awful, but they were out on the course actively working on them, and indicated that they were bringing in $50k in materials to freshen up the sand.
The good news is that despite these shortcomings, pace of play was excellent. Round was finished in 3:45, including a hotdog at the turn. There were plenty of folks on the course, but the Rangers did a good job of keeping play on pace.
If they can right the ship and improve the condition of the course, this will be be back among the better public courses in the area.
Bunkers Bunkers and more Bunkers
Course has an obnoxious amount of bunkers that are hidden from tees. Combined with many bunkers unplayable due to poor maintenance and a scorecard that does not have a mini map of each hole made this course awful to play. got lost several times trying to navigate the cart path as there are minimal signs. Got to play 13 at twilight rate and buy one get one free and if I could play it again for $10 I would not.
Wish they cared about the bunkers.
I am a big fan of the design and layout of this course but sadly the conditions have gotten worse in the last couple years. They are not maintaining the fairway bunkers this year for whatever reason. I would call it a great couse that is not being maintained well.
Disappointed
I had been wanting to play this course for some time and finally got the opportunity to do so on a Saturday morning. The course was reasonably easy to find and when I got there I was greeted right away by a young man who put my clubs on a cart and wished me good luck on the round. Great start I thought to myself.
The clubhouse is very small and is combined with a nice looking bar. Nothing out of the usual in terms of checking in and connecting with the starter. I spent about 15 minutes on the practice green, which has almost no flat putts, but that's fine because there aren't many on the course either.
I was paired with two other experienced golfers so it was a nice match and away we went. One of the first things that stood out to me was the condition of the greens. While they rolled fast, they were very beat up and nearly every one of them were riddled with ball marks. I was hoping it would get better, but it didn't. It probably got worse actually. The greens are tough enough with the undulations, so not getting a true roll made it doubly difficult.
I noticed a number of other little things in terms of course condition that bothered me, especially at $43 for the round. For example, only about 50% of the bunkers were in good condition and some were under repair (understandable). This might seem like a silly thing, but the ball washers were mostly dry and the ones that weren't had muddy water in them. To me, that's a very simple attention to detail that was overlooked.
The fairways were in pretty good shape as were the tee boxes. They had a pleasant cart girl driving around and there were plenty of snacks and drinks to choose from.
I played nicer courses in the area for much less money. While it is well designed and played like a true links course, I left pretty disappointed. The nicest aspects of the experience really had little to do with golf, and that tells me that management is focused on the wrong things. When there are a half-dozen employees standing around the clubhouse and the ball washers are empty, that tells me there's a lack of attention to detail.
There's a ton of potential at this course, but as it is now, I would save money and play others in the area that are in better shape. It seems like they endeavor to be a higher end facility, but they've got some work to do to get there.
Bunkers
Fairway bunkers overgrown and not manicured. Thin sand in green side bunkers
Nice course with great discount
Course was in great condition. Standard rates are a bit pricey but good value with hot deal discount.
Over booked incredibly slow
The course is rough not great condition. Probably the worst I have seen it.
Very slow on the front made the turn and only played 10, 11, 12 which took an hour. On 13 two groups waiting on the tee.
We knew no way we would finish before dark.
Went back to the clubhouse (no ranger) and was told by the pro we paid $ 28 which is what they charge for 9 holes, we were supposed to just be glad we were able to play 9. (Really, $ 56. to play 18 with a course in this condition!!)
Great course conditions !
Golf course was in great condition! Cudos to the superintendent! Will be back soon.
COURSE COULD BE EXCELLENT BUT
The course could be rated as excellent if the bunkers had been taken care of, other than that this course was in super condition. Greens were extremely fast and true. Fairways cut and maintained along with rough that made you pay for hitting into. I would highly recommend this course to anyone who wants a good challenge. Hopefully the maintenance of the traps will improve though.
New Albany Links on the mend
Before New Era golf took over, New Albany Links was on the decline. Yes, there are some bunkers that really need work. Yes, the secondary rough was over 5 inches in some places. But, the greens were great, the fairways in excellent shape, and the primary rough was workable. This course can be played by zero handicap players and be challenged, and by regular golfers if they pick the right tee. The pro shop/grill is nice, and it is evident that they are replacing bad cart paths and starting to fix their bunker problems. Probably my favorite place in the Greater Columbus area to play, with the exception of OSU Scarlet. I played 18 Friday in 3 1/2 hours, another benefit.
You can pay more at a Columbus City course, and they aren't even in NAL's league.
New Albany Links
Challenging course with water and tree-lined fairways. Fortunately, the tall grass had been cut down for the season. If not, I would have lost a few balls. Bunkers are in dire need of help. It didn't look like they had been tended in months. It was like hitting off concrete. Best part was after the round, the started shook our hands and thanked us for coming. I would definitely come back.
Great greens!
New Albany Links is a challenging, true links-style course. The layout provides a lot of variety, with water and bunkers coming into play on many of the holes. The greens were fast and undulating, with subtle changes that made reading the putts very difficult. This is a great course for anyone who likes to challenge their putting ability. Also, the greens are generally well-defended, so good iron and wedge play is a must. The only sour note was the condition of some of the bunkers. It appears that the management may have decided to only maintain bunkers that are clearly in play. Bunkers behind some of the greens had plants growing in them and were flooded. However, bunkers in play were generally in good condition. I recommend this course for intermediate and advanced golfers.
