New Albany Links Golf Club sprawls across gently rolling hills covered with meandering creeks, mature trees, and native grasses and wetlands. There are also a number of lakes throughout that come into play on several holes. The golf course is a fair challenge but it prides itself on its playability. With tees ranging between 4,800 and 7,000 yards, the course accommodates a range of different skill levels. The layout features tree-lined fairways and strategically placed bunkers throughout. New Albany Links Golf Club's 12th hole is one of the course's most memorable. It requires a long drive and an approach that carries past a long bunker and a pond to a narrow green. To the left is certain punishment but a tough up and down waits if you miss right.

Bunkers Bunkers and more Bunkers

Course has an obnoxious amount of bunkers that are hidden from tees. Combined with many bunkers unplayable due to poor maintenance and a scorecard that does not have a mini map of each hole made this course awful to play. got lost several times trying to navigate the cart path as there are minimal signs. Got to play 13 at twilight rate and buy one get one free and if I could play it again for $10 I would not.

Wish they cared about the bunkers.

I am a big fan of the design and layout of this course but sadly the conditions have gotten worse in the last couple years. They are not maintaining the fairway bunkers this year for whatever reason. I would call it a great couse that is not being maintained well.

Disappointed

I had been wanting to play this course for some time and finally got the opportunity to do so on a Saturday morning. The course was reasonably easy to find and when I got there I was greeted right away by a young man who put my clubs on a cart and wished me good luck on the round. Great start I thought to myself.

The clubhouse is very small and is combined with a nice looking bar. Nothing out of the usual in terms of checking in and connecting with the starter. I spent about 15 minutes on the practice green, which has almost no flat putts, but that's fine because there aren't many on the course either.

I was paired with two other experienced golfers so it was a nice match and away we went. One of the first things that stood out to me was the condition of the greens. While they rolled fast, they were very beat up and nearly every one of them were riddled with ball marks. I was hoping it would get better, but it didn't. It probably got worse actually. The greens are tough enough with the undulations, so not getting a true roll made it doubly difficult.

I noticed a number of other little things in terms of course condition that bothered me, especially at $43 for the round. For example, only about 50% of the bunkers were in good condition and some were under repair (understandable). This might seem like a silly thing, but the ball washers were mostly dry and the ones that weren't had muddy water in them. To me, that's a very simple attention to detail that was overlooked.

The fairways were in pretty good shape as were the tee boxes. They had a pleasant cart girl driving around and there were plenty of snacks and drinks to choose from.

I played nicer courses in the area for much less money. While it is well designed and played like a true links course, I left pretty disappointed. The nicest aspects of the experience really had little to do with golf, and that tells me that management is focused on the wrong things. When there are a half-dozen employees standing around the clubhouse and the ball washers are empty, that tells me there's a lack of attention to detail.

There's a ton of potential at this course, but as it is now, I would save money and play others in the area that are in better shape. It seems like they endeavor to be a higher end facility, but they've got some work to do to get there.

Over booked incredibly slow

The course is rough not great condition. Probably the worst I have seen it.
Very slow on the front made the turn and only played 10, 11, 12 which took an hour. On 13 two groups waiting on the tee.
We knew no way we would finish before dark.
Went back to the clubhouse (no ranger) and was told by the pro we paid $ 28 which is what they charge for 9 holes, we were supposed to just be glad we were able to play 9. (Really, $ 56. to play 18 with a course in this condition!!)

COURSE COULD BE EXCELLENT BUT

The course could be rated as excellent if the bunkers had been taken care of, other than that this course was in super condition. Greens were extremely fast and true. Fairways cut and maintained along with rough that made you pay for hitting into. I would highly recommend this course to anyone who wants a good challenge. Hopefully the maintenance of the traps will improve though.

New Albany Links on the mend

Before New Era golf took over, New Albany Links was on the decline. Yes, there are some bunkers that really need work. Yes, the secondary rough was over 5 inches in some places. But, the greens were great, the fairways in excellent shape, and the primary rough was workable. This course can be played by zero handicap players and be challenged, and by regular golfers if they pick the right tee. The pro shop/grill is nice, and it is evident that they are replacing bad cart paths and starting to fix their bunker problems. Probably my favorite place in the Greater Columbus area to play, with the exception of OSU Scarlet. I played 18 Friday in 3 1/2 hours, another benefit.
You can pay more at a Columbus City course, and they aren't even in NAL's league.

New Albany Links

Challenging course with water and tree-lined fairways. Fortunately, the tall grass had been cut down for the season. If not, I would have lost a few balls. Bunkers are in dire need of help. It didn't look like they had been tended in months. It was like hitting off concrete. Best part was after the round, the started shook our hands and thanked us for coming. I would definitely come back.

Great greens!

New Albany Links is a challenging, true links-style course. The layout provides a lot of variety, with water and bunkers coming into play on many of the holes. The greens were fast and undulating, with subtle changes that made reading the putts very difficult. This is a great course for anyone who likes to challenge their putting ability. Also, the greens are generally well-defended, so good iron and wedge play is a must. The only sour note was the condition of some of the bunkers. It appears that the management may have decided to only maintain bunkers that are clearly in play. Bunkers behind some of the greens had plants growing in them and were flooded. However, bunkers in play were generally in good condition. I recommend this course for intermediate and advanced golfers.

Course not in good shape

We play New Albany Links 3-5 times a year. We quit playing as much this year because they raised their rates to $45 during the week. We just played it yesterday because we got a small discount using Golfnow.com and I have to say the course is in the worse shape I have ever seen it. The bunkers looked like they had not been touched in months and some of the fairways were pretty rough. Certainly not worth the money they are charging.

great course

I would be interested in playing the other courses that are grouped with this one. The dangers a plentiful. Lots of bunkers. If you can manage your shots fairly well it is quite a fun course to play. Little risk reward shots. I would reccommend getting a players book for $2.50 so you can know where to hit. I was shooting blind on a few holes and laid up. I was told they plan to fill in many bunkers. On the ninth hole i hit a bit left and some dude through my ball out of his yard by the bunker.... so watch for that. Excellent course, too bad it rained!

restrooms

The course restrooms were closed and they did not have any alternatives other than the woods and there are homes and alot of activity around the course , they should have had a couple of portables stationed , the course is nice but the bunkers are annoying,.did not feel that it fit the price tag.

15 Handicap and above stay away!

Folks, this is an excellent and very difficult golf course. There are many native grass and water hazards which makes this course play much more difficult for the average golfer than the 125 slope from the Blue tees. With the race to the bottom on green fees that golfnow provides, many below average golfers play this course that have NO business playing this golf course. As a result, I have experienced 5 hour rounds for both of my experiences here. They don't have the staff to properly move slow golfers along, so the result is a agonizingly long round that ruined even a beautiful day. If you're handicap is 15 or higher, please don't bother with this track as you will lose at least a dozen balls and spend an hour looking for balls in the heather. Course conditions were as good as can be expected with the reduced green fees the market will bear.

Put Some $$ Back Into The Course

I've played this track at least 25 times over the last 6-7 years, and this season is by far the worst shape I've encountered. I was out on the evening of July 4th and it was also beat up, but I figured that was from a day of heavy play. I know they're under new ownership, and plan on removing some bunkers and cutting down fescue to make it more playable. But the greens have loads of ball marks, and a few greens and fairways looked burned out. (I won't even count the aeration, because that's a necessary part maintaining the course for the future.) It's still in better shape the some other area courses, but I expect more.

I love the layout. Please get the conditions back up to where they used to be. It's too nice of a course to be in the same shape as the Airport GC...

Solid golf course

Got a great deal on golfnow for this round. Course is in good shape if you do not count the bunkers. The bunkers were unplayable. The greens had been aerated but that was expected.

Fun, enjoyable course. Bunkers need a lot of work and with it being a links course there are a lot of them.

Staff was polite and friendly.

great course with some flaws

Greens were in various stages of aeration. Some 2 wks prior, some 1 week ago, others more recent. Made it tough to gauge chipping and putting...speed chages from green to green. Bunkers actually in bad shape. Much more grass around the rough allowed to grow long. Too much in my opinion. However, I love this course...tee boxes and fairways great. Great layout. One of my favorite public courses around Columbus.
